Story of Lindsay gossack

Lindsay had always planned to be a Business major but then she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and her life changed. “I was devastated. My health had always been so important to me.” With new resolve, she changed her major to Biology and now she is a key part of a respected team making important scientific discoveries here at PNDRI. “Once you have the disease,” says Lindsay, “you realize the important role research plays.” Lindsay embodies the dedication and passion of researchers at PNDRI who are working every day to improve the lives of people living with diabetes.

we Know what’s at StakeDiabetes is a complex disease affecting 246 million people worldwide and the seventh leading cause of death in the U.S., claiming 3.8 million lives each year. But, for the scientists at PNDRI, our work comes down to that one child at risk of type 1 diabetes or that one adult living with type 2 diabetes. Even as we expand our programs, develop new strategic partner-ships, explore new avenues to understand the under-lying causes of diabetes, we never lose sight of the human face of the disease. We know what’s at stake.

Research is Hope at workWe believe great breakthroughs in preventing and treating diabetes will come from institutes like PNDRI where researchers collaborate, specialize and focus. From unlocking the genetics of diabetes, to exploring the interconnectedness of diabetes and cystic fibrosis, to advancing our understanding of islet cell transplantation, our scientists work at the cutting edges where science helps people live better lives.
