I have walked in my crampons on Lake Superior to access the Gros Cap ice climbs in Algoma

hundreds of times. But just before starting this days climb, I perched myself on a massive

slab of ice as it drifted toward the snow-covered cliffs and frozen waterfall. As captain of my

tectonic ship I stood near its frozen bow, ice axes in hands, as it rose over the rim ice on theshoreline, stopping just short of my destination, the base of the ice climb named Caveworld.

Getting close to a wild animal is a unique experience, both exciting and unforgettable. One

afternoon, I almost jumped out of my canoe when an otter popped up right beside my paddle

and snorted! Canoeing through the mist at sunrise is dramatic, but watching a 1,000 lb. bull

moose cross the river makes time stand still. Algonquin Provincial Park truly is a wilderness

    paradise for seeing wildlife.
