Advent by Can-dlelight provides a great occasion to reach out to others in our com-munity. This will be an elegant, relaxing even-ing of friendship and
preparation for the true meaning of Christmas. Reservations are need-ed, but the event is free. Signups will begin October 28th and will close on Sunday, No-vember 11th. We still need more ta-ble hostesses, so if you’d like to help, con-tact Janet Gehlhar at 715-792-5397 or [email protected].
Advent by Candlelight is an opportunity for women of all ages (grade school girls through great-grandmas) to set aside the hustle and bustle of holiday preparations and focus their minds and hearts on the birth of Christ. Thank you for your service, and remember to serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord - Eph. 6:7
There 's an old saying that "Lutherans like to eat," and most of us would agree. Food and Christian fellowship have a way of going together.
To organize the serving needs when we gather to eat for potlucks, events, etc, the ladies of the congregation have been divided into serving groups.
The groups will be used on a rotating basis. These groups will probably only serve one time a year. Families are welcome to share in the work of the group, too. The group organizes the whole event; setup, serving and cleanup.
Each group has 2 assigned chairpersons who do the planning and then ask for help from

October is Fire Safety Month Lile Blessings preschoolers were on top of it! The
three-year-olds talked about fire safety and learned about
dialing 911 in an emergency. Four-year-olds took a tour
of the Fire Department. Thank you to Fire Marshal, Andy
Spel', for giving us such an informative tour! Thanks al-
so to the parents that were able to go with us! Fire Mar-
shal Spel' happens to have a
“Lile Blessing” in our pre-
school.
Two members of the Red Wing Fire Department came and talked
about fire safety to the grades through five. One happened to be
Mr. Kevin Ballman, who has three children enrolled in our school.
We thank our first responders for puing themselves in harms way
to keep us safe.
Mr. Peter Gross came to
Principal Bain’s upper
grade classroom. He
brought recorded air
traffic control data.
Mr. Gross explained
some of the symbols and
information displayed and how it is used. The
students asked some great questions. We thank
Mr. Gross for sharing with us. Mr. Gross has
two children in our school.
Home Room Guest Senator John Howe came and talked to our school children
about being a Minnesota Senator. Students were able to ask
Senator Howe many questions, not only about being a senator,
but about his life as well. Students found it interesting that
Senator Howe is still going to school to upgrade his degree in
criminal justice.

Thank You for the Generosity! Thank you to the families that designate our school as the recipi-
ent of their Kwik Trip gas card rebates: Jeffrey Gehlhar, Benjamin
Bain, Donald Bruemmer, Judy Betcher, and Kevin Smith. We re-
ceived $134 from Kwik Trip on their behalf.
We have received $14 from Thrivent Choice Dollars, thanks to
Mr. Bruce Frazier.
From Nash Finch, we received $125. Thanks to those that bring
in Our Family labels!
Another family graciously gifted our school with $500.
Let’s not forget the continuing support of the Wise Penny. We
have again received $500 for our God’s Children Fund. This year
we were able to gift several thousand dollars to help families
afford our school, thanks in part to gifts like these. Ready to begin
Christmas shopping? Looking for something unique? Check out
“The Penny” at their new address on Third Street downtown.
It is through your efforts that we are truly blessed. This summer
we purchased and installed a projector in Mrs. Danell’s room.
These fundraisers made it possible. Giving your time, collecting
box tops and various other items, sharing the gifts the Lord has
given you, and your time, why, that’s what makes our school and
church extra-stupendous! We couldn’t manage without your help!
Thank you!
Our students participated in Soccer Day hosted by St. Paul’s of Cannon Falls. Students played
against other area WELS schools. We won some, and lost some, but the weather was GREAT!
Thank you to all the parents that made this day possible!
Watch Out for the Shins!

We Are Going
Paperless Thank you to parents for bear-
ing with us as we try to deliver
most of our paper forms elec-
tronically. We have done our
weekly newsleer that way for
two years and this year are de-
livering occasional forms and
the scrip order forms over the
wires. Hopefully we will be
able to deliver lunch menus and
school calendars electronically
as well.
If you do not have access to a
computer or printer, you may
stop by the school office to pick
up a copy of anything issued
electronically.
Doing this saves us time, pa-
per and money. No more losing
forms—you will have them at
your fingertips!
Kemp’s Milk Tops Kemp’s is retiring their Nickels
for Schools milk top program. If
you have any Kemp’s milk tops,
please bring them in now. We
will mail them in soon. We con-
tinue collecting Land O’Lakes
and Kwik Trip milk tops.
Thank you!
The Civil War Thank you to these two
“soldiers” (Pastor Randall Kuz-
nicki and friend) for bringing
the Civil War to life for us! The
gave a very informative presen-
tation which included weapons,
food, medical treatment, music,
and much more.

Why Everyone Needs a WillWhy Everyone Needs a WillWhy Everyone Needs a WillWhy Everyone Needs a Will
Young people,
single people,
people without
children and people
with few assets
often think they don’t
need a will.
The fact is, everyone
needs a will.
Let’s look at some
common questions
about wills..
Q: Once I have a will, should I ever have to change it? A: Even the best wills can become outdated. Review your will peri-odically in light of changes in marital and family status, financial status or goals. Updat-ing your will may re-quire nothing more than a simple amend-ment (codicil). Q: Am I required to change my will when moving to another state? A: Most states recog-nize a will drafted in a state where you previ-ously resided. But it is always a good idea to have your will reviewed by an attorney in the state of your new resi-dence. Q: Once my will is completed, where should I keep it? A: Sign one copy and keep it in your office home or bank safe-
deplete your estate un-necessarily, and they do not know your desires concerning your execu-tor and guardian of your minor children. The state cannot make charitable gifts. Q: Doesn’t joint own-ership make a will necessary? A: No. Joint ownership may not eliminate es-tate taxes and may even create gift taxes. It may also deny you complete control over your prop-erty while you’re still living. Joint ownership is a poor will substitute, but can work well in conjunction with a will. Q: Do I need a will if my estate is small? A: Yes, the smaller the estate, the more im-portant that it be set-tled quickly – delays usually mean more ex-pense. A will may cut probate costs, waive bonding requirements, name heirs, guardians, and trustees. Q: Can I name my spouse as executor? A: Yes, Or name a close relative or friend, or the trust department of a bank.
deposit box, or ask your attorney to keep it for you. Retain an un-signed duplicate so you can easily check to see if it needs updating. Q: I’ve heard about Christian preambles. Why might I want to add one to my will? A: A Christian pream-ble is for the emotional and spiritual benefit of your loved ones. In it you may express your love for your Savior and encourage your family to stay strong in their faith. Q: I don’t have a will drawn up yet. Is there someone I could talk with before contact-ing an attorney? A: Your pastors have Will Planning Kits avail-able free. Your synod also has gift planning counselors who will be happy to serve you free of charge.
Q: Does everyone have an estate? A: Yes, if you own any-thing at all. The term applies not just to real estate, but also to cash, cars, furniture, books, insurance and retire-ment plans – all prop-erty. Q: What happens if I die without a will? A: Your state’s laws of descent and distribu-tion take over. Q: Why not let state laws take over? A: State laws are imper-sonal – they don’t make exceptions, they may
