Lincoln Fire Department Interim

Chief Michael Davis recalls individ-

ual members of his department

being votedBest Firefighter inpast years

but not the whole department. This year,

however, the entire department received

the recognition.

Tohave the whole groupnominated

is nice, Davis said. Its nice toknow we

have the support of the community at

times whenwe have to reduce the budg-

et andeliminate positions. Its reassuring

the people are supportive of firefighters.The 20-member fire department,

whichtransitionedto a paid24-hour, all

risk fire department on Oct. 1, 2001,

responds toan average of 3,000 calls per

year, the bulk of which include medical

aids, vehicle accidents and hazardous

materials spills.

We do everything together as a

team, Davis said. We are successful as

a team.

We have a great anddiverse group,

Davis said of the firefighters ranging in

age fromthe late 20s to early30s.

Her customers favoritebreakfast is a toss up betweenchicken fried steak with biscuitsand gravy, and pancakes andham.

Strong said the recipes sheuses for the restaurant, whichopened in August 2007 andserves breakfast and lunch, are

from her own home, her motherand her grandmother.

My cooks do a fantastic job,Strong said. I taught them therecipes.

The restaurant recently begancarrying gluten-free bread.
