Transcript of 2012 Jan-Mar Newsletter
Colleagues, as we are well
over sixty (60) days into the
new year, ask yourselves,
“Have I made any changes
to my life that will make me
better this year? Have I
accomplished the goals
that I set for myself in 2011?
Am I performing to the best
of my capacity?
If the answers to all of these
questions are a resounding
“Yes,” then you are well on
your way! If it’s a “No,”
have no fear, you have
more than enough time to
figure out what your next
step will be and more im-
portantly put your thoughts
and words into ACTION!
We at LILHCO: A GTECH
company, aren’t solely in-
terested in your perform-
ance at work; we’re inter-
ested in your personal
welfare as well and urge
you to recommend ways
where we can help you to
make your lives better!
We have a responsibility as
a company to ensure that
the your life at work has a
positive effect on your life
outside of work.
Steve Jobs once said: “Be a
yardstick of quality. Some
people aren't used to an
e n v i r o n m e n t
where excellence is ex-
pected,” and that’s ex-
actly what we expect of you
both at work and at home.
Be proactive and invest in
yourself and participate in
one of our many online e-
learning courses which are
provided to you free of
cost! Encourage your co-
workers to join you for a
walk or be a part of a fund
raising effort to foster a
productive TEAMWORK
environment! Organize a
themed staff-family picnic!
Join a gym and workout
together! These are a few
of the initiatives that we
would love to see all of you
be a part of and that we are
sure would benefit you
personally as well.
It’s a new year and we are
hoping to excel further than
we have previously as a
company and even more so
as a family which in es-
sence is what we all are
despite our geographic
locations.

Inside this issue:
Do you find that your colleagues are hovering around
you when you're on the phone? Do you feel that you are
not being respected when you are doing something ur-
gent and people just barge in on you?
If you work in a cubicle or a small office space, here are
some guidelines to follow for good office etiquette:
Do you listen to music while at work? Please do
a favour to people around you and use ear
phones. Some people prefer peace and
quiet.
If you need to talk on the phone, make sure that
you keep your voice to a lower volume. Not
everyone is interested in listening to your
conversations, especially the personal ones.
When you are talking on the phone, try to keep
your personal calls short, since some people
have a tendency to eavesdrop on con-
versations.
Turn off your cellular phone or put it on vibrate
mode, since it disrupts others around you.
It can be offensive to other staff to pass gas or
burp abrasively in the office. Etiquette indi
cates that this can be done in the restroom or
outside of the office.
If you are going to enter another staff member's
cubicle, make sure to knock first. Just think
of it as entering an office.
Be considerate of others and either make a
phone call to the person who you wish to
speak with or walk over to their cubicle.
Don't speak across the room, since this can
disrupt others.
If you need to warm up your lunch, please try to
keep it in the lunch room. Some foods that
you may think of as pleasant might be
upsetting to others.
If you need to borrow items from another per-
son's desk, please make sure to ask them
first. If it's urgent, leave them a note stating
what you borrowed.
Overhearing phone conversations is a no-no. If
you do overhear a phone conversation,
make sure to keep it to yourself.
Gossiping in the workplace is highly frowned
upon. Do unto others as you would have
them do unto you.
If you make a mess anywhere in the workplace,
be accountable and responsible and clean it
up. Your office space is your home away
from home.

Most people feel that it is solely the employers duty to
promote safety in the workplace. This is just not true,
there are employee safety responsibilities as well!
Safety should always be a group effort that everyone
takes part in at all times. Knowing what is expected of
you will help make it easier for you to adjust to your
job. This will also give you an opportunity to ask ques-
tions if you have any concerns.
What Are The Employees Safety Responsibilities? There are several safety responsibilities employees
should be required to handle. Personal safety being
the most important of them all.
List of Employee Safety Responsibilities
1. Listen to all material begin covered during safety
meetings and ask questions when necessary. If you
need more details about how something works or
have a question about a certain safety problem it is
important to speak up. If you don’t voice your con-
cerns you will never get the answers you need.
2. If you notice a safety hazard, it is your job to report it
to a supervisor. Leaving it without telling someone
something is wrong could result in injuries.
3. Follow all Occupational Safety and Health Act
(OSHA) regulations and guidelines. This will help to reduce the number of accidents and injuries.
4. Report all accidents to your supervisor. Explain to
them exactly how the incident occurred as well as
when and where.
5. If you are not sure how to perform the required task
correctly ask for help. There is no reason not to ask
for help or advice when you are unsure of how to do
a job the safe way.
6. Keep your work area clean and free of clutter. This
will help prevent slips, trips and falls.
Remember that safety is every persons responsibility.
Employers and employees have safety responsibili-
ties. Sharing the safety duties will make it easier to keep
the workplace free of accidents and injuries.
“Work:- It isn’t just for sleep anymore.”
Safety one liners are the best way to teach others about safety in the workplace. If you have any favorite safety one liners
or jokes please feel free to share them with all of us.

Did you know? The Dominican Republic is lo-
cated between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean. The country is part of the Greater Antilles archipel-
ago in the Caribbean.
In terms of geographical area occupied, the Dominican Re-public is just a little larger than twice the size of New Hamp-shire.
The national game of the Do-
minican Republic is baseball. Some of the world’s best base-
ball players are Dominicans.
Did you know? The country experiences a tropical climate with seasonal changes in temperature. Rain-fall varies according to seasons.
The Dominican Republic lies at
the heart of a hurricane belt and this makes it extremely
susceptible to storms from June to October. The country has also witnessed periodic droughts and phases of occa-sional flooding.
Did you know?
The Dominican Republic is noted for the invention of the ‘merengue’ style of music. The ‘merengue’ style of music is all
about fast-paced dance music.
Did you know that the Domini-can Republic is only country in the world to have the image of the Bible on its flag?
Did you know? The oldest Cathedral in the world is situated in Santo Do-mingo. The first stone for the Cathedral was laid in 1514 by
Diego Columbus, Christopher Columbus’ son.
Santo Domingo, the capital of
Dominican Republic, is the old-est permanent settlement in the Western Hemisphere. The city was founded way back in 1496.
The Dominican city of Santiago,
the second most populated country in the Dominican Re-public, has fewer Dominicans living there than in the city of
New York.
Did you know? Pico Duarte (3175m) in the Cor-
dillera Range, the tallest moun-tain in the Dominican Republic,
is also the highest point in the Caribbean. The awe-inspiring mountain is the tallest in the Americas outside the ranges of the Western United States.
Spanish is the official language
of the Dominican Republic, al-
though English, Italian, Ger-
man, and French are also spo-
ken all over the country.
What else Would
You Like To Know?
Stop Idling
Every moment you spend idling your car's engine means needlessly wasting gas, as well as rougher wear on your vehicle. Idling for more than 10 sec-onds wastes more gas than is needed for startup.
Turn Off Your Computer
Save energy and wear and tear on your hardware by shutting down your computer at night.
Wash Your Laundry in Cold Water
An easy way to clean green is to turn the dial on your washing machine to cold. Most loads don't
need hot water, and 90% of the energy used by washing machines goes into heating. The higher the water temperature, the higher the cost to you and the planet.
Pay Bills Online
Save natural resources -- as well as late fees -- by enrolling in online bill-paying options. Paperless billing not only saves trees, it also eliminates the fossil fuel needed to get all those billing envelopes from them to you and back again. Plus, you'll save money on stamps.
Print on Two Sides
It's not that hard to print on both sides of the pa-per. But even though most software programs give that option, most of us still print only on one side of the page. Save dough and your local landfill. Print on two sides.
Get started on a green path with these simple steps.
