A MONTHLY PUBLICATION DEDICATED TO OUR MEMBERS & THEIR DOGS Gaby and Martin graciously hosted NCNC’s 1 st water tests of 2012 on July 29 th and 30 th at their pond located on their property in Lincoln, loving called, “The Half Ass Ranch.” Pam Saunders and Rick Humphreys were our very capable, patient, and well sense of humored judges for the weekend. The weather cooperated by not scorching us, but did keep to true July weather by reaching into the mid to upper 90’s. The event was Olympic themed. Patty O’Brien adorned the entrance to the test site by hanging the Olympic rings with a Newfy profile placed in the middle of the rings. Judges and stewards wore red, white, and blue and each dog received a medallion as they exited from taking their test. I would like to thank all of the stewards who kept the test running in outstanding, organized fashion. Please join in thanking, Robin Welter, Michael Gross, Kathy Bracisco, Patty O’Brien, Edd O’Donoghue, Buzz and Patty Sondgroth, John Brennan, Terry and Roland Parker, John and Elisa Morozumi, Laura and Kevin Gallagher, Lynn Baker, Jen Cyr, Debbie and Todd Bridge, Jessica Taylor, George Chew, Amy Ryan, John Pearson, Gaby Cohen, Martin Vroegryk, June Gibson, and Cherrie Brown. I can’t thank these people enough for traveling, joining in the fun, and making this such a successful event. The only sad part of the test weekend is that our pass rate was not too terribly high. Each day we only had 3 dogs pass. I am hopeful we get to hear that all of the dogs who entered the Del Valle test pass with flying colors! OK, now to the fun part; I am happy to report the following dogs and handlers passed on Saturday: Team of Am/Can Ch Castanewf’s Wicked Game, WD, (Isaak) handled by Anna Jatczak earned their WRD, team of Ch Castanewf’s Mends A Broken Heart, DD, WD, (Jorden) handled by Laura Gallagher earned their WRD and team of Ch Karableus Coming on Strong DD, WRD, (Trace) handled by June Gibson requalified with their WRD1. Sunday’s passes are: Team of Ch Saltydog’s Sea Breeze, CGC, DD, (Breeze) handled by Patti Sondgroth earned their WD, Ch Kevaura’s National Treasure,TDD, WD, (Riley) handled by Roland Parker earned their WRD and VN, WA, Ch Nakiska Shines at Aukai, CDX, TDX, RE, TDD1, WRD5, WRDX, (Twinkle) handled by Cherry Brown requalified for WRD, yes that makes 6! Congratulations to each of you! The passing teams were given paddles painted in blue and yellow with the title they earned stenciled onto the paddle in large black lettering. Lastly I would like to wish all of the entrants who are taking the Del Valle water tests the best of luck. I can’t wait to hear that we had a large pass rate. Thanks again to all of our outstanding stewards, test chairs, and test secretary; without these people stepping up to volunteer we would not be able to provide these tests. Thanks you! NEWFOUNDLAND HEALTH RESCUE

INTERESTED IN HELPING RESCUE?

Have you considered being a rescue volunteer? They are alwaysneeded!

There are lots of ways to assist with rescue Newfies, such as:

● The largest commitment is to foster a dog. This includes bringingthem into your family for a while, reviewing their temperament andbehavior, potentially taking them to the vet and giving medications(NH&R will pay all vet and medication bills). We always beg ourvets for a “rescue discount” for these dogs!! The dog may be withyou a few days, or a few months depending on what issues exist.

● Assisting with dog transport. Dogs come in to rescue from manyplaces, including homes that cannot keep them and shelters. Someof these are not close to a key rescue volunteer. We need those whocan pickup a dog and bring it part way or all the way to a fosterhome, or could drive one leg of a transport journey.

● Donations of leashes and collars are helpful. Frequently the dog hasnone! We like to have martingale type collars (quick release arenice, such as those from Cetacea). These allow the foster volunteerto manage most rescues (many come in without too many manners,so good condition is important!). 6 foot leashes are helpful(unfortunately we do occasionally get dogs that chew them!).

● Helping us with other activities, such as setting up raffles and sellingtickets, donating raffle items / baskets, helping sell in a merchandisebooth, suggesting designs for T-shirts to sell, etc.

● Many of you already assist us with your donations. These help payfor vet care: a basic checkup is under $100, however many dogscoming into rescue need vaccinations (either they have not had themor there are no vet records available) or spay/neuter which can totalover $500. And if the dog requires other surgery or care (heartwormtreatments, cruciate repairs, entropian surgery, or whatever), the costcontinues upward. So $$ are a big assist to rescue.

Please consider how you can help us – Thank you!

A HELPING PAW…NEWFOUNDLAND DOGS & THEIR OWNERS HELPING THE COMMUNITY

The cart is a one-of-a-kind, (PRICELESS!!!), woodwork, powder coat paint, upholstered beauty. A fellow Newf Aficionado here in Visalia built itfor his Newf and to give rides to his young grandchildren. When we met, his Newf was older, and his grandkids too, so he gave it to Felipe andI with the caveat of 'paying it forward' when we decided we were ready to let go of it.

Being proudly owned by two rescue Newfs, Chato from NCSC and Leo from Nor. Cal Newfoundland Health and Rescue, Felipe and I figured thebest way to 'pay it forward' was to raise funds for rescue and have another Newf (and family) through the raffle enjoy the cart.

Tickets are $20.00 ea. or 6 for $100. I will bring the cart to the NCSC Water Test in September and have someone pull a ticket for the winner.I will make arrangements with the winner to meet somewhere in the middle from where I live. Hopefully someone at the water test will win andbe able to take it home!!!!

Checks need to be made out to SCNRC and sent to me at - see below: (please include email address and phone number so I can contact thesender and validate the receipt of the check). I must receive all funds (sent via mail) by September 12th. I will accept donations in-hand up untilthe raffle!
