Welcome to the 2011 Dave Harris Memorial Charity Billfish Tournament! We are happy to have your company and grateful to have your support for our charitable ventures!

Since 2003, the proceeds from the tournament have gone to numerous charities. This year, the recipients are the Chris & Caitlin Harris College Fund (to support Dave’s last wish for his kids to attend college), the Melanoma Research Foundation (supporting skin cancer research; www.melanoma.org), the Anat KahCommunity Foundation (a local charity organization helping poorer local kids (see next page); www.anatkah.org),and purchasing sporting equipment for the local kids in Puerto Aventuras (PA). The funds from this and the lastfew years will assist in building a small high school in the village (poblado) across the street. We are also proud togive clothing and craft supplies to the local children in Puerto Aventuras.

Special thanks to Glenna and Bob Uecker of Capt. Rick’s (www.captricksfishing.com) fortheir generous support and organizing the boat charters and softball clinic. They havedonated significant time and revenue to the area and have most recently built a sportscomplex in the poblado. Many thanks as well to the boat captains who donate extra fishingtime to the tournament.

Many thanks to Chris Tilghman of Harrington Graphics & Screenprinting (www.hgands.com)for providing our printed t-shirts and caps at a generous discount.

And thank you to Porto Bello Marina & Villas Condos (www.portobelloresorts.com) andAventuras Club Condos (www.aventurasclub.com) for all of their assistance.

On behalf of the entire group, sincere thanks to the Harris brothers—Don, Dan, and Daryl—for making each of us part of this trip/cause/family. A special thanks to Don for all of his hard work and commitment to makingour five days together fun, affordable, and charitable. The planning process

starts six months in advance, but all we have to do is stroke a check and get on a flight—Don has pretty much taken care of everythingelse. Don—A job well done!

This is the third year that the tournamenthas hosted so many participants, andwe’re looking forward to a great time with our old and new friends and family. If you have any questions about the

tournament activities or accommodations, please feel free to ask any of the Harris brothers. If you have any suggestions on things we can do better, let us know. Have a great time, and good fishin’!

Thank you to Our Donors! Our tournament participants, through theirregistration, have contributed to the support of ourthree charities. In addition, the following donors havemade a contribution towards one of the charities.

Page 3: 2012 Dave Harris Billfish Tournament Program

A s all of you gather for the annual Dave HarrisMemorial Billfish Tournament, our hearts are still

heavy with the loss of such a wonderful husband, father, brother and friend. Many of you who knew Dave throughout the years knew him to be a person of integrity, humor and strength. He is greatly missed.

These few days that you spend in Mexico fishing with your friends and relaxing on the beach, know that Dave is very much a part of this tradition and he is there in spirit and love. He would be honored to know that the tournamentis in memory of his wonderful life and all that he treasured.

The children and I are still trying to attain somesense of normalcy and I know that Dave wouldbe proud of the progress we have made. We areall so much stronger than we were a year agoand we are making peace with what hashappened. Dave will be with us all wherever we go and we will never have to say goodbye.

Thank you for participating in this Memorial Tournament to benefit Dave’s children. Carry on in the spirit that would make Dave proud.

Sincerely,

Dianne, Christopher and Caitlin Harris

AT DAVE HARRIS’ FUNERAL, his brother Daryl delivered the eulogy, which we would like to share here for thosewho didn’t know Dave and those who loved him. . . .Have you ever met someone whot is left or right of the center norm?

The Dave and Dianne union started with: “IF SHE’S NOT PRETTY, I’M GOING UNDERWATER.” Dave Harris did not go under the water . . . it was a pre-arranged date. When Dave and Dianne first met, they talked for hoursbefore both going home to their mothers to declare: “I THINK I MET THE PERSON I’M GOING TO MARRY.”

The concluding days of Dave Harris’ life were very difficult . . . difficult indeed. Nothing made sense; no one couldcategorically explain how this “thing” started, how it could be controlled, or how long my dear brother had with us.

Our family came together in a dark and confusing time and attempted to find logic in the circumstances while weattempted to comfort Dave. That is where the irony played itself out—it was Dave who comforted us. Numeroustimes, the silence of the night was broken during each family member’s vigil by Dave’s sweet voice saying “Yep,yep, let’s go.”

Christopher and Caitlin—You have a dad who loves you unconditionally. He can’t be here now, so you must knowhis love for you is so great, that it will last your lifetime.

Dianne—You and Dave are a love story for the ages. Dave and I had lots of talks . . . even for Harris boys, it was a good amount of talking. Regardless where life leads you from here, Dianne, he’ll always be your soul mate.

Dave Harris’ positivity is absolutely infectious, absolutely genuine, and absolutely unending.

When you first meet Dave, the absence of any hint of conceit or any self-serving ego leaves you wondering ifDave’s was for real—oh yes, he’s for real. See, you had to reconcile the “Dave Harris Paradox.” On one hand, you have traits like his: compassion, fairness, trust, and integrity, and on the other hand, you go . . . ”HEY, WAIT A MINUTE, THIS GUY IS IN SALES! YOU CAN’T MIX ALL THAT AND SUCCEED IN SALES!” Yet, Dave did so withextreme grace and with the utmost respect.

They say “repetition is the mother of skill.” Dave is very skillful atdemonstrating, over and over again, an unflagging commitmentto whatever brought your paths together. That may have beenfriendship, it may have been business . . .it may have been both. When you crossedpaths with Dave, you quickly saw that he is the quintessential “intertwiner.” He’s a person who enjoys the journeyand the many bunny trails that come with meaningful relationships.

Dave, you arrived on the earth seven years before my birth—devoted son to a devoted mother, the three of us callyou big brother.

Our loving brother was taken from us far too soon, that leaves questions. I’ve asked God just a couple of thousandtimes, ”WHERE ARE YOU GOING WITH THIS?” My brother Dan hit upon it well enough: “I think God needed somenew marketing ideas and only the best will do.”

Dave, you succeeded in so many passions and remain strong in our hearts: • Son to our mother • Husband toDianne • Father to Chris and Caitlin (and Koda) • Brother to Don, Dan, and me • Great friend to so very many

Many cannot believe you’re gone, but you are. There’s power in numbers, especially when it comes to prayer. I would like to close with this prayer, if you would bow your head:

Heavenly Father, the death of Dave brings an emptiness into our lives. We are separated from himAnd feel broken and disturbed.Give us confidence he is safeAnd his life complete, with youAnd bring us together at the lastTo the wholeness and fullness of your presence in heaven,Where your saints and angels enjoy you forever and ever . . . Amen.

Anat Kah (“village support” in Maya) is a communityfoundation with the mission to enhance the quality of lifefor local residents by supporting a sustainable non-profitsector that promotes community participation and socialinvestment. Anat Kah’s three priority areas are youth andeducation, health and well-being, and economic andcommunity development. Current projects include support

for building a high school for studentswho want to continue their educationpast the ninth grade, a summer daycamp for children with and withoutdisabilities, financial support for studentsto participate in extracurricular activitiesat Colegio Puerto Aventuras, and amentorship program matching highschool students in PA with elementaryschool youth from the Poblado.

IN THE MID-1980s, Dan Harris was on a cruise with a stop in Cozumel, Mexico. While there, he talked to a mateon a sport fishing boat who told him they were catching 15 to 20 sailfish per day. The wheels started turning . . .

The next year, the Harris brothers and their father returned to fish the waters of the YucatanPeninsula. The year after, they decided to invite more family and friends, and this became thebeginning of the tournament we have today.

With the recession of the early 1990s, the Mexico fishing tripsceased as money became tight. In 2003, the trip was restarted in atournament format with proceeds going to numerous charities, including St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, The Little Yellow SchoolHouse (a school for mentally challenged children in Isla Mujeres),the rebuilding of a playground in the town of Puerto Aventuras, newchairs and tables at a local Puerto Aventuras elementary school, and many more. The first home of the tournament was Isla Mujeres.

Later, the tournament was moved to its current location, Puerto Aventuras.

In late 2006, we were all saddened to find out that Dave Harris was diagnosed with melanoma. After a brave fight,Dave passed away in 2008, and the tournament was renamed in his honor. Fortunately, Dave was able to be apart of the 2003 through 2006 trips. He was a great fishing buddy and always had a welcoming smile.

IN DAVE’S HONOR, we are continuing the annual fishing tournament and charitable projects, and welcomeeveryone who would like to participate.
