Baptist International School of the Scriptures

This institute and all of the courses, materials and programs are dedicated to Don Fraser, D.D., Ph.D. He was a man that had a vision, and a dedication, to teach the local churches of their required responsibilities from God’s word. He got people to understand that the local church has the responsibility for the publishing of God’s word and that it is also the local churches responsibility to train up men and women to take the Gospel all the way to the uttermost as they are assigned to do so of God. He never faltered on that vision and today, local churches are responsible for publishing the Word of God by the millions in multiple languages every year. It is now time to train others to do the same. The Bible has clearly commanded us to do 3 things (Mt 28:19-20)

1. Disciple the lost 2. Baptize 3. Train them to do the same

There are many different ways to do this as the scriptures have shown us, showing us the full time pastor or missionary, the part time preacher, the tentmaker, the homemaker, the surrendered individual. Each one of us has a position that God expects us to fill and this curriculum was designed to provide the training that is necessary to help any individual to be more effective in their work for God. What is needed: What is needed is a school that teaches the whole English Bible. What is needed is a school that will take men from the engine cab,

from between the plowshares and teach them the Bible. What is needed is a school that is free from modernism. What is needed is a school that will teach a man how to go out with

the Bible under his arms, faith in his heart, and the power of the Holy Spirit and begin in a vacant lot and build a church to the glory of God.

Check the history of Christianity in America, and see how well we've done without all these extra Bibles. Check the history of the church in America from 1950 back, before every little preacher had the misfortune to sit at the feet of a college theologian… Brother, it seems to me if there is any place in the world where you ought to have your faith in the Bible stabilized; it's in a Christian college or Christian seminary. However, the truth is, that's

where you get your faith shaken.

General Information This catalog contains general information regarding Baptist International School of the Scriptures (BISOS) calendar, administration, admissions, graduation requirements, fees, regulations, course programs, and course offerings. BISOS reserves the right to change any of these, as the need arises. Any changes to the information will be posted on the BISOS Web site and available upon request from the Admissions Office. Baptist International Leadership Development Ministry (BILDM) is a non-profit corporation, formed under the laws of the state of Ohio. BISOS is part of the BILDM. It has been created and is operated by a local Baptist Church. The Pastor, Board of Trustees and Directors govern BISOS. BISOS also has a Board of Advisors to help with the curriculum, and faculty. The Board of Regents of the State of Ohio does not certify this institution. BISOS was founded for the purpose of training men and women with the highest form of Christian education. From the very founding of the institute, emphasis has been placed on evangelism. At BISOS, high standards have been established that are intended to give the student a character building philosophy and a ministry outlook on life. Students coming to BISOS are expected to adhere to the code of conduct that has been designed for their development. We make no apology for our rules and believe that God is pleased with what we are attempting to do here. The spiritual life of students is an important matter, and every week there is excellent preaching in the chapel services. All students are required to attend chapel every week or listen to the session if an online student. They will find that this is one of the most educational and memorable experiences they will have during their stay at BISOS. All of our students are encouraged to maintain their devotional and prayer life; therefore, stress is placed on the regularity of devotions and prayer. Satan does not vacate a Bible Institute that is attempting to do a mighty work for God, and Christians should keep themselves spiritually fit for the battle of keeping the faith and overcoming the Devil. "It is a poor sermon that gives no offense; that neither makes the hearer displeased with himself nor with the preacher" ~George Whitefield

2

The Local Baptist Church The center of spiritual activity of BISOS is the local Baptist Church, which provides students with a warm local church atmosphere, acquaints them with the workings of a separated, fundamental, Bible believing, church, and encourages them in their worship and service for the Lord. Sunday school, the Sunday morning and evening services, mid-week Bible studies or prayer meetings are all times of spiritual instruction and encouragement. Institute students who are not permanent residents of the area prior to enrolling in the school are required to attend all services of a local Baptist Church.

Christian Service A Christian education is valuable only when it is used in the service of Christ. BISOS provides numerous opportunities for students to serve Christ in the community. A program of visitation and outreach is required of all students, whether on campus or online. Students learn and serve at the same time. A soul winning emphasis is maintained. Opportunities can be found in child evangelism, Sunday school, choir, food pantry, print shop and bus ministries of local Baptist Church. Services held in the rescue mission and nursing homes also provide opportunities for enrichment. Participation in some form of Christian service is required as a practical application of the training that the students receive in the classroom. These activities help to prepare the students for an effective life of Christian service and soul winning. Those that are taking the classes online and for a degree certificate will need to provide information to the school on these types of activities on the a regular basis.

Non-Discriminatory Statement Baptist International School of the Scriptures does not discriminate on the basis of race, color or national origin, in administration of its educational policies, admission policies and other school-administered programs. The Board of Regents or the State of Ohio does not certify this institution.

Mission of the Institute

Mission BISOS was formed for the purpose of providing the student with the skill, knowledge and understanding required to be successful as a pastor, missionary, an tentmaking pastor or missionary, missionary pilot, a foreign lay worker, church staff, lay workers or anyone that just wants to gain some training in the Word of God. The objectives are: 1) To provide the courses of instruction in a Christian atmosphere, whether on

campus or through on-campus classes using qualified faculty that is currently involved in or retired from a successful Christian Ministry.

2) To properly train men and women for Christian Service, both full and part time, and to train lay leadership.

3) To provide the guidance and counseling in the social, financial, vocational and legal areas from the Christian prospective.

4) To provide the leadership necessary to help direct the students toward their assigned ministry that God has given them.

5) To enable the student to carry out the Great Commission in taking the gospel to the entire world.

6) To strengthen the student against error and the subtle attacks on the Word of God.

7) To provide the local church atmosphere of soul winning, discipleship, missions, Christian training and education.

8) To provide the guidance for training in the proper tent making skills and help develop those skills

Goals of personal development for each student

1) To have a Personal Relationship with God. 2) To have Vision of the world and God’s Ministry for them in it. 3) To have the desire, ability and knowledge to Publish the Word of God. 4) To have Christian Character. 5) To have the Attitude of going all the way to the uttermost regions unless God

stops them for other service before they get there. 6) To have a Warrior’s mentality. 7) To have them not put the emphasis and importance only on where or how

they serve, but on the Will of God for their lives. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: I Pet 5:6

4

Philosophy of Education BISOS is a local church ministry, administrated by the local church. The Board of Directors and Advisors believe it is the responsibility of the local church to train men and women for the Lord’s work. They see the need for a school that would strengthen a student’s faith in God, strengthen the student’s convictions, and teach the student the commands of God as found in the Word of God. (KJV 1611) The philosophy of education of BISOS is distinctly Biblical and practical. The core curriculum and curriculum philosophy and goals were developed by a number of men over a period of 30 years. It requires obedience to the commandments of the Lord Jesus Christ. This obedience requires personal involvement in going into the entire world, to foreign lands and participate in getting the gospel into the hands of the lost. No student will graduate from the school without the required obedience. Involvement in BISOS denotes more than being a student; it also includes the practice and teaching of being a servant, and a teacher. BISOS is tied to international ministries that follow this philosophy and are a service to others; those that do not want to be servants as the Lord Jesus Christ was need not apply. BISOS will provide the necessary classroom or online training and practical work experiences to enforce the classroom training. All students that attend will be required to travel to the mission field on a at least once for graduation. This is part of the development of the student for a worldwide ministry. The ‘seeing and the doing’ complete the classroom training. The Training received in BISOS is one of the best in the world for getting the gospel around the world. Whether the student goes on and becomes a pastor, missionary, secretary, deacon, businessman, teacher, administrator, wife or whatever God may assign, he will have a worldwide outlook and a vision of the lost needing the gospel. Another reason that BISOS has been developed is to train men and women to go into the rural areas of the US and foreign countries and either fully or partially support themselves through tentmaking activities. In many rural areas of the US, there is a great need for churches, but in many of these areas, the churches are small or would be small, thus, the congregations of these churches are not capable of supporting a pastor full time. Most Bible Schools in this country are not equipping men to take on the challenge of a small church in rural America. These people need the gospel, just like everyone else does, but no one goes there, for lack of funding. This school was developed to be a training center that will train men and women to have a work skill in some area to help support themselves in these positions in America. The same goes for missionaries going to the foreign field. The same

5

concept will work. We now have over 80 countries it’s impossible or almost so, to get missionaries in, but an America worker can go in and work for a company and then have very few limits on having Bible studies, Home churches and personal witnessing, again, this institute is designed for those individuals. This is not a new concept, but one as old as the Bible. We find many illustrations of this in the New Testament and the early church was built by men and women that spread the gospel through the marketplace. Not coming to it just to preach, but working beside other workers and being a living witness of God’s word.

A Special Note to the Baby Boomer Generation In many churches this generation has faithfully served, gave their money & support, their time and labors. You were encouraged to continue on and now you may have been asked to step aside for a younger person or you may feel “Is there anything else I could do, now that I am retired?” There is, with a little training, many of the Baby Boomers could serve as pastors of small churches, become team members on the foreign field, take their skills to a closed country and work in that country being a witness to those individuals, or maybe even a missionary on a foreign field. This generation is living longer, is healthier, more active and they have a desire to do something. Look towards God for guidance in this area. We know this is not something that is talked about much in the churches, everything is aimed at the younger person to surrender and serve, but God can also use you. There is a great need and the workers are few. Consider this. "Dr. Bonar once said that he could tell when a Christian was growing. In proportion to his growth in grace he would elevate his Master, talk less of what he himself was doing, and become smaller and smaller in his own esteem, until, like the morning star, he faded away before the rising sun." ~D.L. Moody

Statement of Faith 1. SCRIPTURES: We believe that the Bible was written by holy men of old, who were supernaturally inspired; that

it is a collection of sixty-six books, from Genesis to Revelation; that it is truth without any advixture of error for its content; and therefore is, and shall remain, the only complete and final revelation of the will of God which all human conduct, creeds, and opinions should be tried. Further, we believe that God inspired the original autographs verbally; that he preserved these writings down through the ages; therefore we believe that the King James Version is the preserved, infallible Word of God for the English-speaking people.

2. GODHEAD: We believe that there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons, all equal in

divine personality and nature; set forth in Scripture as: Father, Son, and Holy Ghost; that within these three personages is found the expression of the triune God of the universe, who is infinite, and inexpressibly glorious in holiness and worthy of all possible honor, worship, confidence and love by his creatures.

3. VIRGIN BIRTH: We believe that Jesus Christ is God’s only begotten Son; that he was conceived in the womb of

Mary, a virgin, by direct supernatural action of God; making Him true God and true man. 4. THE DEVIL: We believe that he is a real person, a spirit-being who was once holy and lived in the presence of

God, but through pride and ambition to be as the Almighty, he fell and drew after him a host of angels; that he is the enemy of God and His Christ, and therefore the avowed enemy of all truly born-again Christians. He is the accuser of the saints, the author of all false religions, and would have all worship him. We hold however, that he is destined to final defeat and the judgment of God in the eternal lake of fire, a place prepared for him and his angels.

5. CREATION: We believe in the Genesis account of creation, and that it is to be accepted literally and not

allegorically or figuratively. We believe that man was created by the direct act of God, making him in God’s own image and likeness; that this creation along with the creation of all animal and vegetable life was not due to evolution, or an evolutionary change of species, or development through interminable periods of time from lower to higher forms.

6. THE FALL: We believe that Adam was created in innocence and perfection, that he was placed in the garden to

dress it, but by voluntary transgression, fell from his sinless and happy state, in consequence of which all mankind are now sinners, not by constraint, but rather by choice, and therefore all men are under just condemnation and without excuse.

7. HELL: We believe in a literal, burning hell that God prepared for the Devil and his angels; that it is a place of

present, everlasting, conscious suffering and punishment of the unbelieving dead. Moreover, we hold that it is the final abode of all living and dead who have not received the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior.

8. REPENTANCE & FAITH: We believe that repentance and faith are solemn obligations, and also inseparable

graces, wrought in our souls by the quickening spirit of God; thereby, being deeply convicted of our guilt, danger and helplessness, and the way of salvation by Christ, we turn to God with unfeigned contrition, confession and supplication for mercy; at the same time heartily receiving the Lord Jesus Christ and openly confessing Him as our only and all-sufficient Savior.

9. SALVATION: We believe that the blessing of salvation is made free to all by the grace of God; that is the free

gift of God, not merited or earned by any works of the flesh or human self righteousness. 10. JUSTIFICATION: We believe that the great gospel blessing which Christ secures to such as believe in Him is

Justification; that Justification includes the pardon of sin, and the gift of eternal life. We believe that it is bestowed unto us solely through faith in the Redeemer’s blood and not in consideration of any works of righteousness which we have done.

11. HEAVEN: We believe in a literal place called Heaven, where God’s presence is manifested, where Jesus sits at

His right hand and angels reside. We believe that it is a place where the Christian goes immediately upon death and where all the saved shall ultimately be.

12. THE CHURCH: We believe that a Baptist Church is a congregation of baptized believers associated by a

covenant of faith and fellowship of Gospel, observing the ordinances and privileges invested in them by His Word. We believe that its officers of ordination are pastors or elders whose qualifications, claims, and duties are clearly defined in the Scriptures. We hold that the true mission of the Church is found in the Great Commission:

7

First, to win the lost; Second, to build up the church; Third, to teach and instruct them as he commanded. We do not believe in the reversal of this order; we believe that the local church has the absolute right of self government, free from the interference of any hierarchy of individuals or organizations; and that the one and only Head of the Church is Christ Jesus.

13. ORDINANCES: We believe that Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are ordinances left by the Lord to His church.

Scriptural baptism is the immersion in water of a believer; in the name of the Father, of the son, and of the Holy Ghost, to show forth in a solemn emblem our faith in the crucified, buried and risen Savior, with its effect in our death to sin and resurrection to a new life. We believe that it is a prerequisite to the privilege of the Lord’s Supper; being the unleavened bread and unfermented fruit of the vine.

14. SECURITY OF THE BELIEVER: We believe that all who have been truly born-again by the spirit of God are

saved forever; they are not only eternally saved, but eternally safe, kept by his power and can never be lost again. 15. RESURRECTION & RETURN OF CHRIST: We believe that Christ rose bodily “the third day according to

the Scriptures;” “that this same Jesus which is taken up from you into Heaven shall so come in like manner as ye have seen Him go into Heaven” - bodily, personally and visible. We hold to the pre-millennium, pre-tribulation, return of Christ; when the dead in Christ shall rise first, and the living saints shall all be changed in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last rump that the Lord God shall give unto Him the throne of His Father David; and that Christ shall reign a thousand years in righteousness.

16. CIVIL GOVERNMENT: We believe that civil government is of divine appointment, for the interests and good

order of human society; that magistrates are to be prayed for, conscientiously honored and obeyed; except only in the things opposed to the written will of our Lord Jesus Christ; who is the only Lord of the conscience.

17. SEPARATION: We believe that everyone who is saved is called to a life of holiness in separation from all

worldly and sinful practices and alliances; we stand opposed to neo-orthodoxy neo-evangelicalism, the modern tongues movement, and Ecumenical movement.

"The heart makes the preacher. Men of great hearts are great preachers. . . We have emphasized sermon-preparation until we have lost sight of the

important thing to be prepared -- the heart. A prepared heart is much better than a prepared sermon. A prepared heart will make a prepared sermon...It would not do to say that preachers study too much. Some of them do not study at all; others do not study enough. Numbers do not study the right way to show themselves workmen approved of God. But our great lack is not in head culture, but in heart culture; not lack of knowledge but lack of

holiness is our sad and telling defect -- not that we know too much, but that we do not meditate on God and his word and watch and fast and pray

enough. The heart is the great hindrance to our preaching. . . " ~E.M. Bounds

Administration

GENERAL CONDUCT BISOS as a Christian institution expects that its students will not only live lives that are above reproach, but that they will also exemplify Christian usefulness and kindness in their dealings with their instructors and their fellow students. Since this institute maintains a definite spiritual emphasis, we believe that individual should manifest loyalty to Jesus Christ by living consecrated Christian lives. The following rules of conduct are set forth: 1) Dancing, gambling, the use of tobacco, alcoholic drinks, drugs, profanity,

movies, obscenity, and other form of worldly indulgence are not permitted. 2) Griping, destructive criticism and cynical attitudes grieve the Holy Spirit and

are destructive to Christian growth and development. Constructive suggestions, which are made to the proper authority, will always be welcomed, but griping will not be tolerated.

3) Each student will be expected to attend the services of a local Baptist Church if attending on campus or his home church if taking the online classes. A “home church” shall be interpreted to mean “that church which was attended by the students in the area, immediately prior to his enrollment at this institution”.

4) Attendance at all classes and assemblies is required. 5) Students are required to be on time for all classes and assemblies. 6) Cheating on examinations will not be tolerated and will be punished by

immediate expulsion from the institution. 7) Since our teachers are employed on a yearly basis, we must insist that all

students be responsible for all of their support to the institute, whether they complete the semester or not. No exceptions will be made. Support is due upon the 1st day of each month, if paid monthly.

“God is not looking for brilliant men, is not depending upon eloquent men, is not shut up to the use of talented men in sending His Gospel out in the

world. God is looking for broken men, for men who have judged themselves in the light of the Cross of Christ. When He wants anything done, He takes up men who have come to an end of themselves, and

whose trust and confidence is not in themselves but in God.” ~H.A. Ironside

"We have the Bible in our hands; but how little we know of its teaching!

And how little are we governed by it! We go on, from week to week, year to year, with things which have no foundation whatever in its pages--yea, with

things utterly opposed to its teaching; and, all the while, we boast of having the Scriptures, just like the Jews of old, who made their boast of

having the oracles of God, while those very oracles condemned themselves and their ways, and left them without a single plea."

Students will be together for chapels, announcements, Mission and Ministry sessions.

Class Requirements All classes are to be attended. It is important to be in class every day that it meets. BISOS uses the module form of teaching the courses. This means, a subject is taught in its entirety before the student goes on to the next course. This allows BISOS to bring in teachers that are in the ministry somewhere in the world and teach a course. If the student misses a day or two, it becomes very difficult to acquire the missed class time. Most of the classes are recorded, but not all of them.

All of the classes (-C & -B) are required for all students coming to this institution. We believe a solid foundation must be laid before additional training is given. We believe the Bible gives us this principle in Isaiah 28:9-10. Students coming from other schools will be evaluated and a program of instruction will be developed for them. “When I came back from Owensboro, after a month’s meditation on the banks of the Ohio, I decided I would enter the ministry. I began to preach the gospel after the fashion of John the Baptist in the wilderness of Judea. I didn’t use a pearl handle pen knife; I did what J. T. Pemberton said I had a broad axe and laid it at the tap root of the trees of dancing, gambling, saloons, houses of ill fame, ungodly conduct, high and low, far and near. And you talk about a bonfire — the whole woods were set on fire … With all the intensity of my soul I waded into the thing, right and left, fore and aft, inside and outside. I asked no questions … and went in arm and hammer brand style. The crowds came; large numbers were saved!” J. Frank Norris (1877-1952)

"One of the commonest causes of failure in Christian life is found in the attempt to follow some good man whom we greatly admire. No man and no woman, no matter how good, can be safely followed. If we follow any man or woman, we are bound to go astray. There has been but one absolutely perfect Man on this earth--the Man Christ Jesus. If we try to follow any other man we are surer to imitate his faults than his excellencies. Look to Jesus and Jesus only as your Guide." ~ R.A. Torrey

Additional Information

Credits may be given for learning a foreign language. This will be decided, based on the course of study that the student is in and will only be given with approval from the school.

Missionary Linguistics and Special Training Program

Hundreds of millions of people live in utter darkness without any portion of the Bible in their language. Most of the un-evangelized people in the world live in areas where no language school exists. Who will reach these lost souls?

Do you feel God leading you to serve on the foreign field? Are you preparing

for the rigors of language learning and culture adaptation? Baptist Bible Translators Institute offers a unique nine-month course that will equip a missionary for every aspect of mission work. We do not teach missionaries a language—we teach missionaries how to learn any language.

BBTI prepares missionaries to go anywhere in the world, learn a language,

translate the Bible, and plant Baptist churches. BBTI classes cover the following: ✔Linguistics (language learning skills) ✔Culture Learning and Adaptation ✔Bible Translation Principles ✔Literacy Training ✔Teaching English as a Foreign Language

Language learning and culture adaptation can mean the difference between success and failure on the mission field.

Living the faith life means there should be increase of our outreach without an end until the nations have been reached. That cannot be accomplished without teaching others to follow our example, and we should definitely be diligent to prove that our EXPERIENCE AND EXAMPLE is one obedient to the Word of God’s commands…. AND IS NOT JUST WHAT WE THINK… Dr. Don Fraser, 1988
