Our BoardRoger Hampson – Chairman

30 years of senior executive business and teaching experience primarily within the sporting and education industry, encompassing business management, financial management, business development, marketing and sales management. Roger held the position of Chief Executive Officer at the Essendon

Football and Social Club 1988-1996, Tasmanian Football League 1996-1998, Melbourne Tigers Basketball Club 1998-1999 and Victorian Canine Association. Roger was Chairman of the AFL Victoria

Working Party in 2009.

Shaun Connell – General Manager

Shaun has a wealth of community football experience. He began his football administration career at Dandenong Ranges Junior FL and Yarra Valley Mountain District FL before moving across to the Victorian Country Football League as the Operations

Manager and then as Area Manager (Eastern Region). Shaun is now General Manager of the SEJ.

James Rouse

James has worked in local government in the UK and Australia for more than 10 years. His current position is Team Leader Leisure Development, at the City of Casey. This role involves the strategic direction and day to day management of sport across the municipality, including all active recreation

reserves, Sports Development, Casey Fields, Access for All Abilities and Leisure Respite Programs. James is a qualified secondary school PE teacher having taught in both the UK and Singapore. Whilst he has not played Australian Rules Football he has a background in a wide range of sporting club participation and administration, including playing national league hockey in the UK and state league in Victoria. James was a member of the AFL Victoria Working Party in 2009.

Liz Triffitt

Liz is a former training development manager at Monash University, and has been involved at Beaconsfield Junior Football Club for in various roles. In 2009 Liz was appointed as the AFL Victoria Project Manager in where she implemented the recommendations of the AFL Victoria Future Directions Review. Liz has also

worked with the City of Greater Dandenong as Recreational Project Officer and recently with Dulux Australia and Evergreen Turf. Liz leaves the South East Juniors Board after 6 years of service at both Club and League level. 2 years as a Board Member, 1 year as AFL Vic Project Manager and Club roles since 2007.

Paul Milo

Paul has had over 12 years management experience within the football and insurance industry. Paul has spent the last seven years with JLT Sport a leading division of Jardine Lloyd Thompson as National Manager. Previously Paul held various roles with AFL Victoria and in 2004

was Manager of Community Football. Currently he is the Manager of Retail and Sport with March and McLennan Group. He brings a real focus on stakeholder relationships and strategic planning.

At the2012 SEJ Best and Fairest Dinner I spoke of the time given by volunteers to the development of the SEJ in the 50 years of our existence. The enormity of this generosity by volunteers has made the SEJ what it is today. The SEJ is indebted to all those volunteers who gave so generously of their time and effort in the last 50 years.

The SEJ, at our Best and Fairest Dinner, announced the creation of the SEJ Hall of Fame and were able to recognise several people who had given generously in our first 50 years and those who had excelled and went on to excel at higher levels. Those who were inducted into the SEJ Hall of Fame were:

• David Neitz - Playing

• Max Madeley - Administration

• Bryan Sheehan - Umpiring

• Glenn Archer - Playing

We congratulate these inaugural recipients on their service to football.

The 2012 SEJ Best and Fairest Nights and Grand Finals had special medals struck to recognise our 50 years and these were made to the clubs, players and umpires. Both nights were great successes anad a large vote of thanks goes to Shaun Connell and Nicole Edney and their assistants for the effort they made in ensuring these nights were a success, enjoyable and memorable for all the right reasons.

The SEJ Finals were once again held over three weekends. The finals were administered under a new administrative model that saw them run in an efficient manner that resulted in a significant saving to the SEJ. All clubs, umpires and players are to be congratulated on the performances and behaviour over the finals.

Our new SEJ Umpiring Department, led by Darren Goldspink, has been one of the great successes of 2012.Our umpiring numbers were up by 30% and the coaching of umpire coaches and umpires was a significant improvement on previous years. The introduction of a satellite umpiring scheme at St. Peter’s College saw the introduction of 15 new umpires which in turn saw two new umpires gain Grand Final appointments. The future of umpiring looks good given the significant improvements in 2012 and the opportunities to introduce more satellite academies in schools in 2013.

The League again participated in the AFL Victoria Metropolitan Championships fielding teams in the Youth Girls and boys competitions. The Youth Girls’ Representative Team went on to win their sixth Championships in a row. The SEJ Under 16’s who played in the VCFL Competition, also won. Whilst other teams were not as successful they were equally great ambassadors of football for the SEJ. Thanks must go to all the volunteers, especially our SEJ Coaches, Team Managers and support staff who gave so generously of their time and effort to support all our teams.

The SEJ’S financial result for 2012 was a surplus of 56492. This is a very pleasing result and is a demonstration of not only the tight fiscal control but also the improvement of the SEJ to develop new income streams .This operating profit will allow the SEJ to invest in the new Clyde Football

Facility, previously used by Rugby, which will become the centre of excellence for the SEJ. The City of Casey has committed significant funds to the upgrade of this facility and the SEJ will also now be able to invest in the facility as a result of surplus this year to make it a first class home for the development of football in our region.

The Clyde facility will give us an opportunity to play matches of the day or divisions of the SEJ each weekend, develop a centre of excellence for umpiring, development squads for Metropolitan Championships and Junior Coaching Programs. This facility in time we hope will be a prestigious facility for the development of Australian Football in the City of Casey.

The SEJ has come a long way since the DDJFL Clubs asked the AFL to temporarily manage the League until its affairs were put in place in 2009. This year sees the end of the strategic plan put in place by AFL Victoria and the start of a new plan for the next three years. This new plan has been developed by SEJ Administration and SEJ Clubs.

Each year the SEJ is indebted to a number of people that assist the League in its yearly operations.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Liz Triffitt for her services to SEJ as a member of the SEJ Board for the last three years and as our Acting CEO in 2009. Liz came to the SEJ in 2009 at a critical phase of the SEJ’S development and led us through a reorganization of the SEJ that has resulted in the SEJ being in a sound position to further develop Australian Football in our community. It is with great pleasure that I record that Liz will receive a Recognition of Service Award for Liz’s outstanding contribution to football.

The League is also indebted to AFL Victoria, in particular Peter McDougall and Grant Williams who both offer so much practical advice and mentoring to the SEJ Management and Board.

In closing, I thank all the clubs for their support this year in helping celebrate a wonderful 50th Year of Australian Football in our community.

CHAIRMANS REPORT

To oversee the SEJ in celebrating 50 years as a Junior Football League was a very pleasing and a humbling duty. When you look back at the history of the SEJ you quickly realise how SEJ came from a very humble beginnings with just six clubs, who are no longer part of the SEJ, to a football competition with 23 clubs In 17 divisions and over 4,500 players each week.

I am pleased to present the 2012 South East Juniors Annual Report on behalf of the Board and clubs of the SEJ.

It doesn’t seem all that long ago that back in December 2009, the Member Clubs of the then Dandenong & District Junior Football League voted unanimously to adopt a new

governance model and new constitution.

At the same time the clubs adopted a three year Strategic Plan which has driven the Board and clubs’ direction since 2009.

Whilst the Board is responsible for the implementation of the Strategic Plan, it has been our clubs that continue to drive the improvement, growth and development of the competition. The growth and maturity in our clubs to be focused on their own development has been key to the success over the past three years. This has been driven through strong leadership of our Presidents and Executive Committees that continually meet the challenges of volunteering, risk management, financial management and, of course, player management.

The philosophy hasn’t changed much since 1962 when 13 men formed the Dandenong and District Junior Football League, to give the Youth of the Region a game of football, however how we do it is vastly different.

There are many exciting challenges ahead for the League including growth in the League’s east and sustainability and consolidation in the west.

The League’s success over the past three years can be measured against the key objectives in the Strategic Plan.

Objective 1 - Ensure the ongoing success and growth of the League

Over the past three years the SEJ Board has established itself as one of the most credentialed Boards in junior community sport.

The SEJ Board understands whilst representing the best interests of the development of the game they are just as mindful of their responsibilities in representing the best interests of Member Clubs.

The Board has been diligent in executing the following;

• Setting strategic direction for the League and related implementation within the constitutional framework

• Acting in the best interests of the League at all times

• Responsible governance and compliance

• Overseeing the operations of the League

• Ensuring all Member Clubs and stakeholders are kept informed and consulted on all relevant mattersThe Board has established prudent financial management strategies that in time will ensure that junior football remains affordable in this region.

These include:

• Regular financial reporting to the SEJ Board and

AFL Victoria

• Books reconciled on monthly basis

• All ATO obligations met

• League achieving 98% compliance in the AFL Vic

Quality League Program

• New income streams established through supplier arrangements, merchandise sales which has seen an increase in revenue of 126% while maintaining a freeze on club fees. The merchandise division represents 27.8% of total revenue.

• Profit is 7.35% of turnover

• Club contribution to revenue has dropped from

28.8% to 19.34%

The Partners Program continues to provide the financial foundation that will ultimately underpin the League’s ability to deliver programs and growth.

Without the support of all our Partners, supplier arrangements and community partners the League simply could not deliver any of the key programs.

One of the highlights of 2012 was the delivery of defibrillators to 16 SEJ clubs, which ensured that every South East Junior venue now has a defibrillator. This was a massive project where McDonald’s Casey Clan donated over $30,000 to help fund the project. The SEJ Board also provided over $9000 to the project. This would not be possible without the support of McDonald’s Family Restaurants across Casey, Dandenong and Cardinia.

The League’s Licensing Program is the hallmark of the Partners Program. The licensing of all jumpers, shorts, footballs and officials apparel provides great opportunity for the League through varying marketing and branding initiatives. This program has been an overwhelming success with the League endeavouring to provide a stable program that can deliver genuine benefit to the clubs.

With the roll out of the SEJ brand due for full completion at the commencement of the 2013 season the brand will be truly entrenched as a recognised and reputable junior sporting brand in this region.

The League has begun a large body of work in identifying the future needs for ground and facilities in this region. The collaborative approach between Councils, AFL Victoria and SEJ has identified many opportunities for new grounds and prioritising of upgrade of existing facilities.

Already this work has seen the League secure its own venue at Clyde and having influence of the development of Heather Brae (Officer) and Carlisle Park which has a pending approval for funding of a synthetic service.

Objective 2 - Build quality football competitions and club environments that promote health, well-being, fun, and community inclusiveness

One of the League’s key strategies has been to provide clubs with the resources that builds quality club environments for their players and members.

The adoption of the AFL’s key programs such as the Kids First program, Bouncing Racism out of Sport, Encourage the Kids and Respect the Game, and the Quality Club Program has seen a significant improvement in the culture and environments around our junior clubs.

Late in 2012 the League announced some significant partnerships that will have a positive impact on clubs and their environments.

The partnership with AFL Victoria, which sees the Multicultural Development Officer working from the SEJ office, will see a much stronger focus on club connections which aims to increase the engagement of CALD communities in our sport.

In addition, the League announced a partnership with the Beehive Foundation which aims to help prevent and educate about youth issues such as bullying, depression, self-harm and suicide. This will be a program that educates and engages the clubs to provide environment’s that makes all players feel safe and valued and develop skills that build resilience and self-esteem.

The League’s transitional adoption of the Junior Match Policy has begun to see some real benefit with an increase of 11% in the number of teams in the Under 9’s and U10’s, since 2009. The League played an active role in the AFL review of the Junior Match Policy conducted by the AFL and Deakin University. I would like to thank the Berwick Junior Football Club for their participation in the review.

As identified in the Operations report we have conducted a review into the grading system. This review engaged feedback from clubs,

AFL Victoria and the Grading committee. The recommendations have been approved by the Board and will deliver a much improved and transparent process for grading.

The League has experienced a more competitive competition since the introduction of grading, moving from the least competitive competition in 2009 to the third most competitive competition in Melbourne and we envisage that this can improve over the next few years. Participation Statistics for 2012

• 12% growth in teams since 2009

• A decline of 3 teams from the U13’s (23 in 2011) to 20 teams in the U14’s (2012)

• Introduction of the Premier Competition has seen the retention of 20 teams for the U17 and U16 age group

• Growth in the Youth Girls competition of 3 teams (37%) Officer Kangaroos, Beaconsfield JFC and Scoreseby JFC

In addition the clubs continue to do a great job in retaining players in the competition which further proves the competition is in a healthy position.

In 2012, 4480 players participated in the South East Juniors. However 4700 players were registered in the data base. It is pleasing to note the 3250 players returned to play South East Juniors football in 2012 from 2011. Just as pleasing was that 1240 new players came into the competition. The League has a player retention rate of around 72.5%, just below the metropolitan average of 75%.

Team numbers by age group and year

One of the most pleasing improvements this year has been through the improvement of umpires following the Umpire Review in 2011. The implementation of the review recommendations has seen:

• Umpire numbers increase 30% on 2011

• Most appointments being filled in 2012

• More uniform branding

• Clarity of roles and responsibilities in coaching and training

Congratulations to Umpire Managers Tim O’Meara and Darren Goldspink in delivering a much improved umpiring program for 2012. Looking ahead Umpiring will benefit from a more stable training base at Clyde and Heather Brae Reserve in Officer.

Objective 3 - Provide ongoing development, mentoring, learning and sharing opportunities to build a foundation for continuous improvement, and community inclusiveness

South East Juniors continues to lead the way in delivering a variety of development and learning opportunities to volunteers and participants. We collaborate with many providers such as the AFL, AFL Victoria, Local Council and Melbourne Football Club to deliver key programs.

The League provided the following forums

I am also pleased with the recognition that our volunteer coaches and administrators are receiving regionally and at a state level.

In the Regional Coach of the Year Awards, South East Juniors Youth Coach of the Year, Scott Gowans (Fountain Gate JFC), took out the Regional Youth Coach of the Year.

While South East Juniors Volunteer of the Year Trish Marson was awarded the AFL Victorian Volunteer of the Year.

These awards reflect the quality of people in our competition, and that local recognition could lead to wider accolades.

Objective 4 - Develop, build and vigorously promote a fresh brand, name and image that reflect the League values.

I am extremely pleased with how the League’s new name and branding has been embraced by the clubs, community and the industry.

It has provided a fresh new approach that reflects the history and future of the competition. The branding strategy clearly identifies the key areas in which we work including, Umpiring, Media, and Development.

SEJ BRANDING

In closing I would like to thank the Board, clubs, umpires and volunteers for their terrific support and commitment to continual improvement. Many challenges are still ahead of us, however as demonstrated over the past three years the Board and its member clubs are well positioned to meet the challenges and remain mature and progressive.

Work on the new Strategic Plan is well underway, with our Strategic Planning being aligned to AFL Victoria. I look forward to seeing what the South East Juniors looks like in another three years.

I would like to thank the support of Grant Williams, Peter McDougall and AFL Vic Management and Development team staff at AFL Victoria for their ongoing support to football in this State. To Roger Hampson and the Board I thank you for your guidance and mentorship over the past 3 years. I thank Nicole, Belinda and Darren for their dedication to their respective roles, on many occasions going beyond the call of duty.

To my wife and family thank you for your understanding and support to this life of football.

I am also pleased with the recognition that our volunteer coaches and administrators are receiving regionally and at a state level.

In the Regional Coach of the Year Awards, South East Juniors Youth Coach of the Year, Scott Gowans (Fountain Gate JFC), took out the Regional Youth Coach of the Year.

While South East Juniors Volunteer of the Year Trish Marson was awarded the AFL Victorian Volunteer of the Year.

These awards reflect the quality of people in our competition, and that local recognition could lead to wider accolades.

Objective 4 - Develop, build and vigorously promote a fresh brand, name and image that reflect the League values. I am extremely pleased with how the League’s new name and branding has been embraced by the clubs, community and the industry.

It has provided a fresh new approach that reflects the history and future of the competition. The branding strategy clearly identifies the key areas in which we work including, Umpiring, Media, and Development.

SEJ BRANDING

Football Operations Manager

The season commenced on April 20th with 199 teams competing across 10 age groups. In my second year as the Football Operations Manager I continue to be excited by the level of commitment and passion shown by many in our community to continue to provide opportunities for kids to participate in this great game.

This year Little Demons Day was true to its title being held on one day with fantastic outcomes. The U9’s and U10’s were split into two sessions, with the U9’s playing in the morning and the U10’s in the afternoon. The feedback received was very positive with Toomuc Recreation Reserve proving to be a fantastic venue with all three ovals being utilised, creating a carnival atmosphere.

Participants were treated to player visits from Melbourne FC League Ambassador, Jordie McKenzie, as well as free Melbourne FC jumper giveaways. Jumping castles and other activities ensured that entertainment was provided for all.

The Little Demons Day continues to be played in a non-competitive environment, focusing on fun and participation. Teams were placed into groups named after past and present Melbourne FC champions and played on modified sized ovals.

Congratulations to all the players, officials, umpires and volunteers of the 56 teams who made the Little Demons Day a great success.

Huge thanks to event partners in Pakenham Junior and Senior Football Club, Shire of Cardinia, Melbourne FC, Ross Faulkner, Garrleigh Trophies and Coke for their continued support of Little Demons Day.

The League’s Youth and U12 Girls programs continue to grow and provide a space for females to participate in an all female environment. The League continued to fixture the Youth Girls matches at Casey Fields and welcomed the addition of 3 new Youth Girls teams this year, making a total of 11 teams, two up from last season. The new teams were Beaconsfield, Officer and Scoresby with Scoresby making it to the preliminary finals in their first season, which is a great achievement. I would like to thank our Match Manager, Alicia Heinz, for managing the games at Casey Fields this season.

The League’s partnership with Melbourne FC enabled us to provide a number of opportunities for the Youth and U12 Girls to enhance their skills. These included an opportunity for girls to be a part of a 2 day Trident Girls Academy. The Academy was open to girls aged between 12 and 17 years and provided an on and off the field development experience, designed to build on the girls’ existing football abilities, while teaching them how to link leadership with values and teamwork.

The U12 girls were given the opportunity to participate in the U12 Melbourne FC Academy that played a friendly match against U12 North Melbourne. This Academy is just another opportunity for girls to be exposed to an all female competition. The support given to the female programs with the South East Juniors by our member clubs and Melbourne FC is greatly appreciated and valued.

After conducting a review of the development program at the end of the 2011 season the League expanded the old Development Coaches role and renamed it the Director of Coaching. This role would now be responsible for facilitating programs in conjunction with the Football Operations Manager that would develop players and coaches in the South East Juniors competition. The review also saw the creation of the U14 Academy Program which concentrated on developing 80 U14 players over an eight week period within the SEJ competition, as well as acting as a platform for the selection of the two U14 Development Squads that compete in the AFL Victoria Metropolitan Championships. The excitement surrounding the new program, as well as the ability for players to nominate themselves online, ensured that the first year of the program was a success with over 90 registrations. I would like to thank the Director of Coaching, John Webb, for his efforts during the season and look forward to his continual involvement in expanding the program.

In 2012 the League moved from the 6th most competitive competition in Metropolitan Melbourne with an average winning margin of 65 points to the 3rd most competitive competition reducing the average winning margin to 44 points.

This result shows that our competition is continuing to improve and become more competitive. I would like to thank the Grading Committee for their efforts and honest feedback in ensuring that our League continues to move towards decreasing the winning margin and therefore improving the competitiveness of our competition across all age groups. a yellow card without report. This proved to be successful with a significant decrease in the number of reports dropping to 32 compared to 70 in 2011. There was also a reduction in appeals lodged dropping to 0 compared with 2 in 2011. The reduction in the number of reports and appeals is a great achievement considering that there were over 1500 games played throughout the year including the finals series. These results also demonstrate that the independent tribunal continues to play an important role in applying appropriate penalties for those who decide to play outside of the rules.

It is also pleasing to see that there was a significant decrease in the number of investigations dropping to 5 compared to 10 in 2011. Following the number of investigation requests lodged by member clubs in 2011the League sort to re-educate member clubs on the process to follow before deciding to lodge a complaint . This education has proved effective and has resulted in the reduction of complaints lodged. I thank our Independent Tribunal panel members, Investigation Officers and Appeals Panel members for their commitment in ensuring that the standards of our competition are kept high.

The South East Juniors finals series is always an exciting time of year and this year was no exception with over 100 teams competing in the three weeks of finals. The increased number of attendees was treated to some fantastic weather as well as a fantastic display of skills from our players. The inclusion of the U17’s competition resulted in 17 premierships being up for grabs. 12 clubs shared the premierships with Narre North Foxes JFC, Narre South Lions JFC and Narre Warren JFC being multiple winners.

In May 2012, SEJ Umpires Manager Tim O’Meara resigned and I was approached to fill the role. After careful consideration I accepted the position based on the fact that I wanted to assist and mentor young people who wanted to umpire.

The first impression I gained was that the SEJ has a dedicated and motivated group of umpires who strive to be their best. They are keen to umpire in as many matches as they can and are keen to learn more about their craft.

To that end, we are in the process of implementing several strategies that will enhance the quality of the individuals within our group as well as their performance in the role of umpiring.

These strategies include:

1. Establishment of a new home for umpiring which will include a training facility as well as meeting facilities which will provide ongoing development, mentoring, learning and sharing opportunities for all umpires to encourage continuous improvement.

2. Review all coaching positions within the department to better accommodate for our needs with our view to providing more coaching of umpires.

3. Establish a long term relationship with Beehive Foundation to better prepare umpires to face issues encountered in their role of officiating.

4. Appoint a Fitness Supervisor to better prepare umpires for 2013 and provide more specific training to allow them to carry out their roles.

5. Further develop our Umpiring Academies in the SEJ footprint.

6. Provide more structured Coaching Sessions with the aim of coaching umpires every time we have the opportunity.

7. More involvement of parents through specially organized meetings.

8. Promote a Recruitment Day in an attempt to recruit new umpires.

These strategies will have an immediate and positive impact on our group. During my time with the group, the standard of umpiring has improved to a point where I thought our performance during the finals, particularly the Grand Finals, was outstanding. The majority of our umpires are young and will develop into competent umpires, provided we ensure that the environment both on game day and at training is a positive one and that clubs, coaches, officials, players and spectators respect the role of the umpire.

I wish to publicly acknowledge the excellent job done by our Umpiring Department in ensuring all games have officials present. In 2012, out of the nearly 1500 matches that took place, we successfully appointed field umpires to all but one match. The coaches in each discipline showed tremendous dedication and work ethic to impart the knowledge they have onto our umpires.

McDonalds Junior Development Program

The South East Juniors Development Program received a much needed revamp in 2012. A review of our programs indicated that the League needed to focus on the Development of the U14 age group to improve the skill and development of the 13 14 year olds and that more independent coaching would benefit the program outcomes.

On the basis three significant changes were made.

Firstly - The Development Managers role was reviewed and retitled to Director of Coaching, with a greater emphasis on coaching the Development Coaches to have a more consistent approach to the program.

Secondly – The U13 Development teams were replaced with an eight week U14 McDonalds Academy. This provided over 80 SEJ U14 players the opportunity to further develop their skills. The program aimed to

• Provide a greater number of players the opportunity to be involved in the program.

• Provided the individual the opportunity to nominate, not just left to club coach or B+F results

• To create an environment that is enjoyable, positive and fosters individual learning styles.

• Contribute to the development of skills, physical attributes, football knowledge and personal growth.

• To allow coaches to develop player skills to compete in the AFL Victoria Metropolitan Championships.

Although the Academy was not the only method of selection, the two squads of 26 that would represent the SEJ at the AFL Victoria Metropolitan Championships were selected from the Academy.

Thirdly – The appointment of Coaches who are involved in the Stingrays Development Program. It has been important to appoint Coaches who understand the Development philosophy. The appointment of Coaches involved in the TAC programs, provided the players a more focused program. The Coaches were also exposed to a mentor program with the Melbourne FC and Casey Scorpions.

It is pleasing that the program has seen immediate results with 15 from the SEJ U14 McDonalds Academy program selected to participate in the Stingrays U15’s program for 2012/2013.

Congratulations to all the players who participated in the Academy program and to the volunteers who assisted with the Academy.

2012 McDonalds Development Program

For the first time, players were able to nominate themselves to be involved in “Try Outs” across the U14 U15, U16 and Youth Girls programs. This proved to be successful with over 300 players attending the try outs. The tryouts were conducted across three sessions with the squads announced at the end of the final session. Players who were unsuccessful were provided the opportunity to seek feedback from the coaches.

South East Juniors has 6 teams participating in the AFL Victoria Metropolitan and Regional Championships. The games are played in June right across Melbourne including Sunshine, Diggers Rest, Footscray, Craigieburn, Casey Fields, Doveton and Shepley Oval.

This campaign saw mixed results across the U14’s and U15 age groups, while the Youth Girls went on to win their 6th consecutive AFL Victoria Championship Grand Final. Congratulations to Ellie Blackburn who was awarded BOG for the grand final.

Under the direction of Scott Slater the U16 Junior Development Team competed in the regional Championships played at Shepley Oval. Three matches were played with points awarded for quarter wins, highest quarter score and game wins. The points are tallied and the winner of the carnival announced. The boys had a terrific weekend beating Dandenong Ranges in the last game to take out the Championship undefeated. Congratulations to Hayden Stagg for being awarded player of the carnival.

3 EVENTS AFTER THE REPORTING DATE

All forms of revenue are brought to account when entitlement is beyond doubt and the amount can be quantified with reasonable accuracy. In the case of components of finals series, merchandise and some other sources, revenue is brought to account when the cash is received. The nature of cash revenue is such that it is not able to be assured as to completeness before being subject to receipting processes. The Association takes all steps possible to gain assurance over the completeness of all of its revenue. Revenue is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable.All revenue is stated net of the amount of goods and services tax (GST).

Furniture and equipment is carried at cost less any accumulated depreciation.The depreciable amount of furniture and equipment is depreciated over the useful lives of the assets to the Association commencing from the time each asset is held ready for use.

At each reporting date, the Association reviews the carrying values of its tangible assets to determine whether there is any indication that those assets have been impaired. If such an indication exists, the recoverable amount of the asset is compared to the asset’s carrying value. Any excess of the asset’s carrying value over its recoverable amount is expensed to the income statement.

Provision is made for the entity’s liability for employee benefits arising from services rendered by employees to balance date. Employee benefits have been measured at the amounts expected to be paid when the liability is settled.

The income of the incorporated association is considered to be exempt under Division 50 of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997 and therefore income tax has not been provided in the financial statements.

Revenues, expenses and assets are recognised net of the amount of GST, except where the amount of GST incurred is not recoverable from the Tax Office. In these circumstances the GST is recognised as part of the cost of acquisition of the asset or as part of an item of the expense. Receivables and payables in the balance sheet are shown inclusive of GST.

The Association has a right to use sporting facilities under an agreement with the City of Greater Dandenong, in return for a current rental of approximately $1,490 per annum. The agreement enables use of the facilities on a seasonal basis, at rentals to be agreed in advance of the commencement of each season.

The financial statements were authorised for issue on 26 November 2012. There has not occurred in the interval between the end of the financial year and the date of this report any item, transaction or event of a material and unusual nature likely, in the opinion of the Management Committee to affect significantly the operations of the Association, the results of the operations, or the state of affairs of the Association in subsequent financial years.

The following significant accounting policies, which are consistent with the previous period unless otherwise stated, have been adopted in the preparation of this financial report.


NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 OCTOBER 2012

This financial report is a special purpose financial report prepared in order to satisfy the financial reporting requirements of the Associations Incorporation Act (Vic). The Management Committee has determined that the Association is not a reporting entity.The financial report has been prepared on an accruals basis and is based on historic costs.
