    HALO

'Halo' is a wireless interactive headphone with

portable DAP(Digital Audio Player) as a set

aimed for professional club DJs and trendy

people who wear headphone as part of their

fashion. The direct, cordless attachment of

receiver and DAP prevents any circumstances

of electronic interference or frequency prob-

lems, thus providing a lossless sound quality.

The dual circular display can show off its

fantastic visual effects in the dark, which can

be seen like a halo encircling the users head.

    BACKGROUND

A DJ is like a god in the club. While he is

performing, everyone inside looks up to him,

mimicks the gestures of his, shouts his name

out, and sings along with him. Thats why agood DJ should not only be good at mixing

the music but also be well dressed, look good,

and use proper props to excite the audience.

This actually is beneficial for the crowd con-

trol. I focused on the fact that most of the DJs

    wear their monitoring headphones while

mixing their music. Since a headphone is

always worn by the DJ and is easily seen from

far, wouldnt it be exciting for the crowd if the

DJ is wearing a flashy interactive headphone?

The touch display allows the user to interac

tively control the headphone with their fingers

while wearing. Single Tap to play/pause,

Double Tap to navigate tracks, Swirl Up &

    Down to change volumes.

    ATTACH / DETACHABLE DAP

The DAP(Digital Audio Player) is attached to

the earcup by magnetic. The direct attach-

ment of receiver and the DAP prevents sound

loss occured by any external electronic inter-ference, or frequency problems that are stated

as common problems of wireless headphones.

    THE DIGITAL AUDIO PLAYER

The digital audio player for Halo is similar to conventional touch screen mp3

player. It supports WAV, AIFF, FLAC, ALAC, APE, MP3, AAC, WMA, OGG files

and has a headphone-out that can be used with other receivers. Supports

micro USB type-B for charging. Supports wireless charging and Wi-Fi Direct.

    User Profle / Persona

    User Group Segmentation

    Sketch Development

The main focus of the design was creating a headphone that does not only

provide comfort, but also fit nicely into the consumers lifestyle. So building a

persona was important for envisioning the concept. For Halo, the persona was

a club DJ who enjoys stylish and young life, drawing attention from others.

A HEADPHONE THAT REFLECTS THE LIFESTYLE

While doing the sketch ideation, I kept in mind that the design should reflect

personas life style. A stylish, and unique form, combined with metallic material

seemed to give a trendy look which well fit to persona. Had lots of trial and

errors harmonizing the design language of the DAP and the receiver.

    VISUAL EFFECTS

The dual circular displays can provide visual

effects that reflect the characteristics of the

music the DJ is monitoring. When the DJ plays

a high bpm track, the effect turns dynamic, whereas for down tempo, it becomes bold and

smooth. This will arouse great excitement

among the crowd when the DJ is performing.

    A state-of-the-art luxury loudspeaker which

gives new experience of enjoying music to the

listener. Not only does it emits quality sound, it

gives visual pleasure to everyone in the room

by the application of quantum levitation tech-

nology. Listeners can actually see how the

music is being played by the luminous floating

disk that bounces up and down according to

    the rhythm and beats.

Levitation technology is no longer a mere fantasy, it is already being used in

various transportation, and lots of research is being conducted for various

application. After some research, I discovered some interesting scientific phe-

nomenon including 'quantum levitation' and several other scientific theoriesrelated to levitation effect(Meissner effect, superdiamagnetism, quantum lock-

ing, etc.). These theories tell that an object(should be a superconductor) that is

levitated by magnetic field can be fixed on certain position in mid-air, or can

keep certain distance from the target. If the strength of magnetic field can be

controlled, the object can bounce up and down in mid-air in a stable manner.

I found some similarities between this phenomenon and the graphic equalizer,

which shows sound waves going up and down, reflecting the beats and rhythm

of a music that is being played. Watching this graphic sound waves while listen-

ing to music makes a more immersive listening experience. From here, I came

up with an idea of applying the levitation technology to a home audio system.

While seeing a lot of people eating their toasts, I realized that most toast lovers

keep their breads in room temperature rather than storing them inside their

fridges; and eat them as soon as possible. The reason for this was that if you

store your breads in your fridge, the moisture inside the breads vaporize -making them dry and less tasty. But if you decide to keep them in the room

temperature for the sake of better taste, opening up the plastic bag to make

your toasts and then tying the bag up every time you eat a toast can be pretty

tedious. Plus, why, in the modern 'smart' era, do we still need to wait around our

kitchen after putting our toasts in our toasters every time we decide to eat

them? Wouldn't it be nice to have a 'smart toaster' to which you can order to

start making toasts using a smart device while watching TV in your living room,

and which sends you a notification through your smart device when the toasts

    are ready?

Tying the bag up after taking out some breads Analog and tedious to do...

    Things are getting smart now

    BACKGROUND 02

If you have decided to store your breads in the fridge, leaving them in the room

temperature for 30 to 40 minutes and softening them up prior to cooking them

with toasters rather than putting them inside the toaster right away will make

the toasts taste better. But 30 minute is a long time. Some toasters have defrostfunctions. But they can only defrost 2 to 4 breads each time. Is there a way to

defrost multiple frozen breads at the same time within a short period of time?

    TOASTER THAT STORES BREAD

By the help of the built-in bread container, it is unnecessary to use unpleasant

plastic bags to store the breads. Once it is filled up, there is no need to open,

take out, and tie. Simply just press a button with a smart device and the user

will be informed when the toast is ready. Also, the container have made it possi-ble to defrost multiple breads at the same time.

    STRUCTURE

The friction between the bread and conveying

roller enables the forward movement of a

bread. When the bread enters the heating

chamber, the heating elements are operated.

The heat generated from the toasting process

flows along the conductive tube, rises up to

defrost multiple breads in the container.

    BACKGROUND

Tablet PCs are commonly used by workers and

students. iPad is the most widely used tablet

but some think that they are too big to be

carried with. As a solution, iPad mini came out. Both have their merits, but arent effective

enough to handle complicated tasks. Hybrid

PC, an integration of tablet + laptop, or tablet

+ PC, however, are good at dealing heavy

duties, but their size is somewhat ambiguous.

Their display is too big and the ratio is wider

    than the conventional tablets.

On the ideation phase, my main concern was to solve the structure and mecha-

nism issues. Designing the dock was a tricky part. I had to think of how it could

dock the tablet safely, how the camera could be used while docked, and

harmonizing the design with the tablet.

    PORTABILITY AND PERFORMANCE ALTOGETHER

Apollon is a hybrid pc. It can be used as conventional tablet, wider version

tablet, and also a PC when its docked. Portability is an issue for hybrid pc since

they have wider than conventional tablet display. Apollon does not lose its

portability while maintaining its powerful performance.

    THE BOTTOM LINE

'STERITUM' looks like any other coffee thermos that we use at our work place,

home, and outdoors. But there's something special on the bottom.

    2012-2013

Any sort of insulated thermos has a contamination issue after drinking with it.

Because of its being vacuum, the damped status lasts relatively longer than

other open-type beverage bottles, promoting a faster rate of bacterial growth.

Thermos contaminated by bacteria and viruses can cause various diseases.

Many people actually are aware of this problem, but they still re-use the ther-

mos that is long left on the room without any cleaning done after drinking with

it. Or, they just fill it with hot water, shake it, and flush it out, which is a tempo-

rary way of getting rid of the unpleasant smell but does not solve its funda-

    mental contamination issues, or bacteria.

There are two reasons for this. First, they are lazy, second, they don't carry

cleaning products such as kitchen cleaners and sponges with them.
