Meet the Coaches

Head Coach Kevin Jackson

Kevin Jackson begins his 12th season as Rhode Island College's men’s and women’s cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field Head Coach.

He was named the Little East Conference Women's Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year in 2008-09.

Jackson had previously served as the Head Coach of Boys’ Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field at Pilgrim High School in Warwick since 1994. Prior to taking the job at Pilgrim, Jackson was the Head Coach of Boys’ Cross

Country and Assistant Coach of Boys’ Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field at Hope High School from 1978-1994. Under his tutelage, Hope won six consecutive cross country titles and he coached a New England Champion (Wayne Newsom) and an All-American (Erik Clinton).

He was named the Rhode Island Boys’ Track and Field Coach of the Year in 1989, 1992 and 1999. He was the President of the Rhode Island Track and Field Coaches Association from 1989-91.

He is the founder and President of the Providence Cobras Youth Track and Field Team. This self-supporting youth program, which started in 1978, works with inner city youth in developing track and field skills.

In addition to his duties at RIC, Jackson is the educational coordinator for the Whitmarsh Corporation. He is also a Providence City Councilman. He earned his bach-elor’s degree in social welfare/psychology from Rhode Island College in 1980. A native of Warwick, he currently resides in Providence.

Assistant Coach Timothy RuddTimothy Rudd begins his seventh year as an

assistant men’s and women’s cross country and indoor/outdoor track and field coach.

He is no stranger to Rhode Island College sports fans, having competed in cross country and indoor and outdoor track for the Anchormen. He was named to Rhode Island College’s All-75th Anniversary Men’s Track Team in 2005. He left RIC as the indoor program's all-time record-hold-er in the 600, 1,000, 1,500 and the 3,000 meters,

as well as the distance medley relay, and the 4x400 meter relay. Rudd still holds the school record for the top 1,500 meter time with a mark of 4:02.01, set in 2001-02. During his indoor career, he earned numerous All-New England, All-ECAC and All-Alliance/Little East honors in several events.

The Warwick, Rhode Island native was also a standout in outdoor track, wrapping up his career in 2004. He earned All-Alliance/Little East honors several times in both the 800 and 1,500 meters over the course of his career and was part of the school-record holding 4x400 meter relay team at the time of his graduation. He also ran two seasons of cross country at RIC in 2002 and 2003. He was named a Distinguished Student-Athlete by the Speaker of the House and the Rhode Island House of Representatives in 2002 and 2004.

Rudd earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Rhode Island College in 2004 and is currently work-ing on his master’s degree in public administration at the University of Rhode Island. He is currently a police officer for the City of Providence. He is single and resides in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

Meet the Coaches

Assistant Coach Nick Palazzo Nick Palazzo begins his first year as an assistant men’s and women’s track & field coach. He will work

primarily with the team's throwers.“I am very excited to be coaching for my alma mater,” said Palazzo. “I look forward to adding to an already

successful program.”A native of Johnston, R.I., Palazzo was a standout on the men’s indoor and outdoor track & field teams at

Rhode Island College from 2002-2006. He closed out his outdoor career as a senior in 2006 by placing third and earning All-ECAC honors in the hammer with a distance of 54.15 meters at the ECAC Championships. Palazzo earned All-ECAC honors in the hammer earlier in his career as a sophomore in 2004, while also pick-ing up All-New England honors in the hammer during his freshman and sophomore seasons and earning N.E. Alliance honors in the hammer for four consecutive outdoor seasons.

Palazzo’s indoor track & field career was highlighted by a sixth-place performance at the 2003 N.E. Div. III Championships as he earned All-New England honors after posting a distance of 164’10.00” in the hammer. Palazzo also earned N.E. Alliance honors in the weight throw as a senior in 2006 and as a junior in 2005, while also earning N.E. Alliance honors in the hammer as a freshman in 2003.

A 2002 graduate of Classical High School, Palazzo was a three-time All-American during his time with the Purple.Palazzo earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Rhode Island College in 2007 and currently resides in North Providence.Since his graduation he has worked in carpentry and has worked also worked as a track & field coach for four years, spending three

seasons at Central Falls High School and one season at Hope High School. During that span, Palazzo coached four All-Americans, five State Champions and one state record holder in the field.

Outdoor Track & Field (2012): Placed 11th in the triple jump (14.58m) at the NCAA National Championships on May 26...earned All-ECAC honors in the triple jump with a third place fin-ish (14.54m) and was 10th in the 400m (49.57) at the ECAC Championships on May 18...placed third in the triple jump (14.99m), a new program record, and fin-ished 10th in the 400m (49.77) at the N.E. Open Championships on May 11-12...earned All-New England honors in two

events, placing first in the triple jump (14.43m) and seventh in the 400m (49.69), at the N.E. Div. III Championships on May 5...earned four N.E.
