• A contingent of 82,000 tourists visiting Cancun, Cozumel, and the Maya Riviera and other locales via cruise liners and other modes of travel are at risk.
• Many are beginning to evacuate these areas, some of which were damaged by Wilma.

• Hurricane Rina is forecast to make landfall on Thursday, October 27th.
• Rina could make a sharp turn to the east and move towards Cuba and Florida, as Hurricane Wilma did in 2005.

• In the process, Wilma spawned FIVE tornadoes and dropped 25 cm (10 in) of rain.

• Risk Management Solutions estimated that insurance companies would have claims in the range of $6 billion to $10 billion for damage in Florida.

• RMS’ estimate was based on onshore damage resulting from wind, a coastal storm surge, business interruption, and increased costs for materials and services needed for repairs.

In Florida, a mandatory evacuation of residents was
ordered for the Florida Keys.

The Lower Florida Keys experienced an unusual flood: it occurred twice, increasing the economic
impact.

First, as the storm crossed the Gulf towards the State of Florida it pushed water
across the keys from south to north.
Second, after the storm made landfall, it pushed the same water back to the sea.

• The death toll in Flordia from Wilma was low-- 25 people.
• Insured economic losses in Florida was high-- $10 billion.
