Rev. Arthur B. Egan, Pastor Emeritus
One of the pranks I pulled a few times with friends in college was tocrash a wedding feast at a local banquet hall. Three or four of us would dress upenough to not stand out in the crowd. We would arrive just before dinner andmill around a bit enjoying a free beer and hoping that there would be enoughempty seats at a table that we could sit together and not be noticed too much. Ifthe questions got too intense there was always the excuse that we were reallythere to scope out the band for the wedding of one of us. As a last resort toclose scrutiny, there was always the exit. It took a larger event to get away withthis kind of prank, something more difficult with today's smaller, more intimatecelebrations.
In the Gospel, the king wanted a full banquet hall. But one man wasunprepared, not appropriately attired. Even as college kids pulling a prank, weknew that we had no chance of getting a good dinner (or even a free beer) if weweren't at least half way decently dressed. Jeans and a T-shirt were not going to cut it for a wedding reception inthose days. So on went the dress shirt and tie along with some nice pants to make a presentable outfit.
Of course, access to the kingdom of God is not a prank, and just putting on some nice clothes will notensure entrance to heaven. What we have to do is put on Christ, and have an interior disposition that conforms toour outward expressions of love and charity. Our inner faith must be strong, and our actions toward others mustexpress what we believe. The "wedding garment" that we put on is not a shirt and tie in hopes of a free meal, but alife of prayer, devotion, and care for others that will lead to the banquet of life.

EW PRAYERS, SAME MASS Beginning withthe First Sunday of Advent in 2011, Catholics around theUS will worship using the new English translation of the
Roman Missal, Third Edition. The most noticeablechanges are in the Order of Mass and the priests prayers. And also with you becomes And with your spirit. We believe becomes I believe, and one in beingbecomes consubstantial. Though some words are new,
the Mass itself is not changing. As the US bishops remindus, this is an opportunity for liturgical and spiritual re-newal. Learning to pray with new words, we enter intothe mystery of the Eucharist with greater awareness andappreciation
EW MUSIC, SAME MASS"Do you like to sing in the shower? Ifso, St. Mary Music Ministry is look-ing for you! Whether you are a solosinger, a back-up singer, or just en-joy singing in an informal group, your help at any Mass any time will
be appreciated! You do not need toread music, or to commit to singingevery week; brief rehearsals are held weekly right beforeeach Mass, and right after Mass for the following week'smusic; just meet in the Choir Loft! There will also begeneral rehearsals once a month on Saturdays from 11:30- 1:00. Please consider volunteering your time as avail-able to this important ministry, and especially as we tran-sition to the new and challenging Roman Missal 3 liturgi-cal music settings - ALL are welcome!
