Safety netTake these tips from the Federal Trade Commission to help ensure yoursafety as you socialize online:

Think about keeping some control over the information you post.Consider restricting access to your page to a select group of people, for example, your friends from school, your club, your team, yourcommunity groups, or your family.

Be cautious about posting information that could be used toidentify you or locate you offline. This could include the name ofyour school, sports team, clubs, and where you work or hang out.

Make sure your screen name doesnt say too much about you.Dont use your name, your age, or your hometown.

Post only information that you are comfortable with othersseeing and knowing about you. Many people can see your

page, including your parents, your teachers, the police, the collegeyou might want to apply to next year, or the job you might want toapply for in five years.

Remember that once you post information online, you cant takeit back. Even if you delete the information from a site, older versionsexist on other peoples computers.

Consider not posting your photo. It can be altered and broadcastin ways you may not be happy about. If you do post one, ask yourselfwhether its one your mom would display in the living room.

Flirting with strangers online could have serious consequences.Because some people lie about who they really are, you never reallyknow who youre dealing with.

Be wary if a new online friend wants to meet you in person. Before you decide to meet someone, do your research: see whatbackground you can dig up through online search engines or throughfriends. If you decide to meet them, be smart about it. Meet in a publicplace, during the day, with friends you trust. Tell an adult where youregoing, and when you expect to be back.

Trust your gut if you have suspicions. If you feel threatened bysomeone or uncomfortable because of something online, tell an adultyou trust and report it to the police and the social networking site.

Career ChartCareer ChartHow to use the chart on pages 18-52

Star RatingThe Utah Department of Workforces Services created the star ratingsystem to rank jobs based on both outlook (90 percent on the numbof annual openings projected for the occupation, and 10 percenton the growth rate) and wages (median annual wages for theoccupation in Utah).

Five Star jobs are those with the strongest employment outlookand high wages, with four, three, two and one star ratings appliedas the rankings go down. Please note, however, that occupationsare grouped by training level, so the wages for a high paying jobthat requires just short-term on-the-job training will not match the

wages of a high paying job that requires a college education. Also, a five star rating does not necessarily mean a job will beeasy to find since that will depend on the number of qualifiedapplicants available to fill openings. Think demand vs. supply.

Occupational Title & DescriptionOccupational titles and descriptions reflect informationdeveloped by the U. S. Department of Labor to use in theOccupational Information Network, also known as O*NET.See http://online.onetcenter.org/.

Interest CodeAlso known as Holland codes, the interest codes assigneto occupations in the chart come from O*NET. You mayhave taken an interest assessment to help you understanyour personal career interest code, and that will help youfind occupations that are suited to your interests. For moinformation on Realistic (R), Investigative (I), Artistic(A), Social (S), Enterprising (E), and Conventional(C) interest types (and code combinations), talk to youschool counselor and complete the Interest Profiler inUtahFutures.

The second amount in the columis the median wage, representing the middlewage in the full range of wages paid to workersin that occupation in Utah.
