The University of Sioux Falls is now in its third and fi nal year of NCAA DII classifi cation and will compete as a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference beginning in the 2012-13 academic year. As part of the transition process, no USF athletic teams will be eligible for post season play during the 2011-12 academic year.

As a NCAA DII provisional member, USF will now be required to be in full compliance with Divi-sion II rules for scheduling, recruiting, scholarships and eligibility under the guidance of Direc-tor of Athletics, Senior Woman Administrator and Assistant Athletic Director for compliance. The university will also take part in a compliance blue print review this fall, which will serve as a follow-up to the NCAA membership Committee site visit that took place in January of 2011.

2011-2012 marks the Cougars’ fi nal year in the DIi

Coach Traphagen enters his fourth year as the head coach of the University of Sioux Falls women’s basketball team. Last season USF fi nished with a school record 27 wins en route to an NAIA Elite 8 appearance. The 2011 sea-son marked the program’s fi rst NAIA tournament appearance since 2003. In three seasons, Traphagen has led the Cougars to an overall record of 63-34.

During the 2010-2011 season, Traphagen coached the Cougars to a second place fi nish in the Great Plains Athletic Conference, where they posted an 14-4 record, going 7-2 on the road. USF also enjoyed non-conference home court advantage, claiming a 5-0 record at the Stewart Center. Traphagen mentored two fi rst team, two second team and three honorable mention conference selections including, GPAC freshman of the year, Laura Johnson.

Traphagen’s style of play was evident as USF was second in the confer-ence in 3-pointers made and in scoring margin during the season, where they averaged 9.36 3-pointers per game, while outscoring opponents by an average of 15.85 points per game. Sioux Falls was also tenacious on the defensive end, allowing just 57.55 points per game which ranked fi rst in the conference. As a team USF fi nished fi rst in the league in fi eld goal percent-age defense, holding opponents to just 35.5% percent shooting per game

In the 2009-2010 season, Traphagen led USF to a 18-14 overall record, advancing to the second round of the GPAC tournament. The squad posted a 9-10 record in the always-competitive GPAC, fi nishing eighth in the fi nal conference standings, and also accumulating a 10-3 record on their home court in the Stewart Center.

Traphagen led USF to an eight-win improvement in his fi rst season as the head coach of the Cougar women’s basketball program. Sioux Falls’ 18 wins in the 2008-2009 were the most since the 2002-03 season, when the Cou-gars reached the NAIA fi nal four.

The Cougars’ success was not unnoticed nationally either, as the team ended the season receiving votes in the NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball Top 25 poll.

During the 2007-08 season, Traphagen, served as the Cougars’ top assistant coach.

Before that he was the head assistant women’s basketball coach at Augus-tana College (S.D.) since 2001. In his six years at Augustana, besides his on-court duties, Traphagen coordinated recruiting for the women’s basketball program. Overall, Traphagen amassed a 111-69 record as an assistant coach at Augustana.

The Vikings’ program saw steady improvement during Traphagen’s time. Before his departure, the Viking women had three consecutive, 20-win seasons.

During the 2006-07 basketball season, Traphagen helped the Vikings to a 25-7 record and a NCAA regional tournament appearance. Augustana also boasted a 20-game winning streak in 06-07 and was the No. 2-ranked team in the North Central Region.

Prior to joining Augustana, Traphagen served as a graduate assistant at Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb., where he earned a master’s degree in sports administration. Traphagen earned a bachelors degree in business administration from Black Hills State University.

Traphagen played college basketball for three years at Black Hills State, where he was a two-time all-conference selection, including team Co-Captain and Co-MVP during the 1999 season.

During Traphagen’s time, the Yellow Jackets won three consecutive South Dakota Intercollegiate Conference championships. He currently holds the Yellow Jackets single season record for made 3-pointers (97) set during the 1997-98 season.

Traphagen is married to Ann Traphagen.

The University of Sioux Falls Sports Complex was

designed to give everyone the best seat in the house.

A flood of light helps illuminate the foyer at USF’s most

storied sports facility – the Stewart Center.

When it comes to athletics at the University of Sioux Falls, there are two places to look. And Sioux Falls Construction is proud to have contributed to both.

It all began with renovation to the Stewart Center, including the addition of a foyer that serves as a majestic entrance to each USF basketball game. It continues today with construction of the University of Sioux Falls Sports Complex, a state-of-the-art facility designed to bring out the best in each athlete that steps onto the field.

From management to construction, Sioux Falls Construction did more than build buildings. We stayed true to the original vision and passion of the University of Sioux Falls.

With over 100 years of helping build up the region, Sioux Falls Construction has the capabilities and discipline to complete any project on time and within budget.
