First TeamAll-MVCForwardBreanna Beine

With more than 80 percent of their scoring returningfrom a team that reached the Missouri Valley Confer-ence Tournament semifinals last November, there’sreason for optimism with the 2011 Aces.

The offense begins with sophomore Breanna Beine, theMVC Freshman of the Year who was first team all-con-ference. She scored a team-high seven goals. Class-mate Kaitlin Robinett spent most of her freshman yearas a defender, but moved to forward late in the yearand finished second in scoring to earn honorable men-tion all-MVC honors and a place on the MVC All-Fresh-man Team. The third returning all-MVC player is seniorSam Conrad, UE’s leader on defense the past twoyears. Junior goalkeeper Chaviel Harrison is also backafter setting a UE record by stopping 116 shots. Headcoach Krista McKendree is hoping a more experiencedteam means a less busy goalkeeper.

“One of the biggest differences and positives this yearis the amount of returning high impact minutes wehave,” according to McKendree. “All of our returnershave been involved heavily on the field for us in theirtime here, which means they’ve already gone throughthe huge learning curve.”

Kasey Cartwright (2-1-5), Dani Langness (1-1-3) andOlivia Robinson (0-0-0) are UE’s most veteran playersin the midfield. Also returning to the starting lineup aresophomore forward Stephanie Thompson (2-3-7) andsophomore defender Lauren Tiernan (1-2-4). McK-endree is also looking for help from junior forward Kris-ten Davis, UE’s top scorer in 2009 with five goals. There are also nine freshmen and Auburn Universitytransfer Tasha Prentice who will push the veterans forplaying time.

“I believe that we have compiled a team that is capableof competing very well and challenging for the confer-ence,” McKendree says. “They all know how difficult col-lege soccer is and that success does not come easily. At the end of the day, the responsibility falls on theshoulders of our coaching staff to prepare our team forevery game.”
