The Trust is now stepping up its activities to ensure that 2011 sees a fitting celebration of the King James Bible’s anniversary. Here are a number of updates on what the Trust is up to. New Trustees In the last year Dr R David Muir of the Evangelical Alliance, Sir Jeremy Isaacs, formerly of Channel Four and the Royal Opera House, Lord Griffiths of Fforestfach, Vice Chairman of Goldman Sachs International and Howard Raingold, a Development Consultant, have all agreed to become Trustees. Website The website has been transformed over the last year. It now carries information about all the events that are being organised, as well as details about the Trust. It also carries features such as ‘life in 1611’, music composed at the time, Bible Heroes and an online gallery. The YouTube Bible is, where people record themselves reading one chapter of the KJB, the shining star with contributions from Richard Dawkins, Andrew Motion and Patricia Routledge. King James Bible Composition Awards Launching in the spring, the awards will encourage young composers to produce new settings of text from the King James Version. Entries will judge by a distingushed panel of established composers including James MacMillan and Bob Chilcott. We are grateful to the Dean and Chapter of Westminster Abbey who have sponsored the awards.

Counting Down the Days We are very excited to be teaming up withleading artist, Siku, to present a countdown tothe start of our celebrations in comic strip form.

Siku will be producing a King James edition of his work ‘The Manga Bible’. Launching next month, www.2011trust.org will feature a new strip each day leading up to 1st Jan 2011.

Elton Hall are planning an exhibition of their collec-tion of Bibles entitled The History of the English Bible

Bible Reading Marathons – we are organising a number of Marathons for 2011.

On 4 March 2011, The John Newton Project are holding an event at the Foundling Museum, entitled:

The Messiah by Mr Handel and Mr Newton: Meditations of Part 2 of Handel’s Messiah

The Society of Biblical Literature in partnership with a number of groups including the Nida Institute for Biblical Scholarship at American Bible Society will

hold their annual International Congress in London from 4 – 8 July 2011.

The Mitchell Library, in association with Glasgow University, the Scottish Bible Society and other Bible publishers, are planning an exhibition ‘Divine Write:

Scotland and the King James Bible’.

Downside Abbey are planning a conference on English Roman Catholic translators of the Bible, entitled:

From Douai to Knox and beyond.

CRIBS (Christian Resources in Bexley Schools) have acquired a bus which they intend to fit out as a mobile Bible experience and hope to tour round schools in the area. The project will be for Years 5 and 6 in primary

and Years 7 and 8 in secondary schools. It will be creative, cross-curricular and interactive.
