LATEST NEWS
from the 2011 Trust
2011 is now under a year away.
The Trust is now stepping up its activities to ensure that 2011
sees a fitting celebration of the King James Bible’s anniversary.
Here are a number of updates on what the Trust is up to.
New Trustees
In the last year Dr R David Muir of the Evangelical Alliance, Sir Jeremy Isaacs, formerly of Channel Four and the Royal Opera House, Lord Griffiths of Fforestfach, Vice Chairman of Goldman Sachs International and Howard Raingold, a Development Consultant, have all agreed to become Trustees.
Website
The website has been transformed over the last year. It now carries information about all the events that are being organised, as well as details about the Trust. It also carries features such as ‘life in 1611’, music composed at the time, Bible Heroes and an online gallery. The YouTube Bible is, where people record themselves reading one chapter of the KJB, the shining star with contributions from Richard Dawkins, Andrew Motion and Patricia Routledge.
King James Bible Composition AwardsLaunching in the spring, the awards will encourage young composers to produce new settings of text from the King James Version. Entries will judge by a distingushed panel of established composers including James MacMillan and Bob Chilcott. We are grateful to the Dean and Chapter of Westminster Abbey who have sponsored the awards.
Events 2011
It is our aim that 400 events will take place around the country as a part of the celebrations. Here is aselection of some of the events we already know are taking place. Find out more at www.2011trust.org
