WELCOME TO THE BOSTON CHILDRENS THEATRE

SUMMER STUDIOS 2011!

It is my great pleasure to welcome parents and students to our third smashyear of the Boston Childrens Theatre Summer Studios! Whether yourchild is a beginner looking for a gentle introduction or an experiencedperformer, BCT offers something for all ages and levels. The classes andtraining available at BCT are a fun, creative and excellent way to discoverany childs potential.

This summer we are pleased to offer 3 convenient locations for ourSummer Studios. Our STUDIO DISCOVERY, STUDIO YOUTH ONE andTWO programs, STUDIO KIDS ROCK and BROADWAY SPECTACULARfor ages 4-12 will be held at the Boston Childrens Theatre Studios onHuntington Avenue in Boston as well as at our North Shore location,Endicott College in Beverly, MA. I must also express my gratitude tothe Governors Academy in Byfield, MA for hosting our STUDIO THREEIntermediate and STUDIO FOUR Advanced programs at their state-of-the-art facility. To make it even easier, BCT will provide an optional shuttle atcost to and from our Boston offices to Governors Academy.

At BCT, we have many reasons to celebrate. In addition tocommemorating BCTs 60th anniversary this season, we are also thrilledto recognize our BCT students who are on their way to becoming thefuture of musical theater. BCT Summer Studios has become the premiertraining opportunity for young people in the greater Boston area. Duringthe past 3 seasons, our BCT graduates have been universally acceptedinto the colleges of their choice, including NYU Tisch, Emerson, Syracuse,Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and the Royal Academy of DramaticArts in London. We congratulate them all!

Through an on-going partnership with the Patton Foundation, we arethrilled to welcome our international students from Germany. Thesestudents are joining us to learn about the art of American Musical Theatre-one of the fastest growing art forms in Germany today. The culturalexchange between American students and German students broughttogether by their common passion for theatre provides a unique andexciting theatrical and social experience for our students and we lookforward to welcoming them!

So bring the suntan lotion and sunglasses; Bostons own will be burningbrighter than ever beneath BCTs summer spotlight!

Studio Discovery is geared toward four to sixyear olds as an introduction to creative play.

During this one-week class, students will playa variety of games focusing on expression,imagination and individuality. Each day, thechildren will explore a different theme (e.g.animals, friendship, travel) through drama,music and crafts.

STUDIO ONE(AGES 7-9)

BCTs Studio One program is designed to

introduce young children to the basics oftheatre. The first two hours are spent oncreative drama activities; mid-day focuseson related arts and crafts projects; and in thefinal hours the students work on music andmovement techniques, including group singingand basic choreography. Each session willconclude with a Sharing Session wherethe participants perform an original musicaldramatization for family and friends.

STUDIO TWO(AGES 8-12)

Studio Two will give our young students achance to improve their knowledge of theatrewhile putting together a workshop production

of a 30-minute musical. Using new musicalsbased on classic Disney films, children willlearn everything from the basics of workingwith a script to preparing for a production.Boston Childrens Theatres professionaltheatre educators will not only leadparticipants through the rehearsal process,but will also teach them many basic theatreskills and terminology such as stage directions,improvisation and character development.

This fun and interactive program is great forbeginners as well as children who have beenin productions before.

On the last day of the program, familyand friends are invited to a performanceof the musical!

BROADWAY SPECTACULAR(AGES 8-13)

Broadway Spectacular is for childrenwith a desire to explore their singing andperformance abilities. Using popular materialfrom a variety of musicals, students willgain experience in singing, acting anddancing. The final class will conclude with

a Broadway-themed showcase of solos andgroup numbers for family and friends.

STUDIO KIDS ROCK!(AGES 12-16)

BCT Studios and Endicott CollegeSession 1: August 1 to August 5Mon Fri 9am to 4pmFee: $350

Using popular theatre songs from some ofBroadways rock musicals, students will gainexperience in singing, acting and dancing.Students interested in the mix of Broadwayperformance and contemporary song anddance will love this fast paced five-dayworkshop. The final class will conclude witha rock-themed showcase of solos and groupnumbers learned during the week.

STUDIO THREE(AGES 9-14)

The Governors Academy, ByfieldAudition by appointmentJune 27 to July 17Mon Fri 9am to 5pmFee: $950

Studio Three is a pre-professional trainingprogram for students interested in theprofession of musical theater. This three-weekprogram will include master classes taughtby experienced actors, workshops led by

professional educators and rehearsals for afull-scale production of the musicalFootloose!

Each day, Monday through Friday, studentstake intensive classes in acting, dance andmusic theatre performance. The rest of theday is dedicated to rehearsals for mainstage productions held the final weekendof the program.

Shows will be performed in rotatingrepertory at the Governors Academy.

A Shuttle from the Boston ChildrensTheatre downtown Boston willbe available to all students withadvanced sign-up.

weekend of the program.The final two weekends of the program

will include technical rehearsals andperformances.

REGISTRATION POLICIES FOR BCT ACADEMY CLASSES

5. BCT reserves the right to cancel, combine, or reschedule classes due to insufficient enrollment.Please indicate alternate choice(s) in the event your preferred class is not available.

6. One 10% discount per family may be applied for any of the following: tax-deductible contribution of$100 or more per year; concurrent enrollment in an additional class by the same student or a sibling(first class is full-fee; the second class only receives discount). Scholarship assistance is available;email or call to request confidential financial aid form.

7. Consultation to determine the most appropriate class placement is welcome. It is not possible either to observeor to attend any class prior to registration. Commitment to the entire session must be made in advance, for thebenefit of the student, instructor, and class. Payment in full is required at time of registration, prior to the firstclass meeting. BCT has a strict NO REFUNDS policy. Thank you for your cooperation.

8. Punctual attendance is expected at all class meetings, unless the instructor has been notified inadvance of absence due to illness (Please call 617-424-6634 to report absence). Children shouldbe dropped off and picked up promptly, as BCT cannot provide supervision outside the buildingafter dismissal. Please allow adequate time for traffic and parking.
