Today, through the success of helping hundreds of thousands

of horse owners across the globe and with training centers located

on three continents, the name Parelli represents the international

gold standard of horsemanship.

Pat Parelli is the pioneer and founder of Natural Horsemanship

– A Natural Approach to Horse Training, the number one equine

training program in the world. Across all schools of equitation,

from dressage, eventing and jumper classes to western reining,

gaited breeds and Thoroughbred racing, the Parelli philosophy has

served to forge an enduring bond between horse and rider, taking

performance a quantum leap forward.

As two of the world’s preeminent equine behaviorists, Pat

and his wife, Linda, continue to tutor royalty, advise Olympic and

Paralympic medalists and captivate global audiences at sold-out

venues. By implementing the principles and techniques of the

Parelli Program, horse lovers are empowered to understand horses

the way masters do.

What is the Parelli Method?Parelli’s natural approach to horse training is a holistic

system that equips the trainer with the tools and mindset to build

trust and partnership without fear, force or intimidation.

Parelli horsemanship principles spawned the birth of the

Natural Horsemanship movement by coining the name in 1990.

Over the past 20 years, Linda and Pat Parelli have worked with

early-adopter students to perfect the Parelli at-home learning

program, resulting in more than 200,000 people across 35 coun-

tries experiencing the hidden language of horses. By building a

real foundation, Pat and Linda were able to achieve success that

most horse owners could only dream of.

Parelli stands alone as the world’s premier equine train-

ing regimen because it educates the trainer first. Through the

principles of love, language and leadership, students learn the

natural lexicon of horses, the value of empathy and respect, and

the importance of understanding the individual animals in order

to build safe, healthy and lasting relationships.

Changing the World Early on, Pat found that horses were easy to train; the

challenge was teaching people. Most horse owners fail to achieve

their dreams due to the fear and frustration that inevitably comes

when trying to impose one’s will on an animal.

If he could teach people the patience and temperament

required to communicate naturally with horses–to master the

nuance of their physical language–and to consider their needs first,

wouldn’t that, in some small way, make the world a better place?

The key was in the transformation of people as a funda-

mental approach to building the best possible relationships with

horses. Pat had to help people develop their horse “savvy” and

he has since created a scholarship fund to help people achieve

this end knowing a lack of funds should not stop this transforma-

tional process.

In the early ‘90s the system came together when Linda

shaped Pat’s teachings and techniques into a step-by-step

course and the Parelli Program was born. They are a power-

ful husband-wife team spanning male and female, Western and

English, recreation and competition.

Thanks to the success of the program, Parelli is changing the

world for horses and humans.

The Human ExperienceIn contrast to many other training programs, Parelli focuses

on the intellectual, psychological and emotional elements since

this is where the greatest failures occur. The program allows

horse lovers at all levels to achieve cooperation without

dominance and willingness without coercion.

Natural horsemanship employs communication methods

that draw from the instinctive ways horses interact within a herd.

This foundation enables both horse and human to become more

physically, mentally and emotionally connected, creating an

atmosphere of trust and an optimal environment for schooling.

Expanding upon the global phenomenon of natural horse-

manship, Parelli has introduced the Foundation Method. Dedi-

cated to the philosophical approach of principles before goals–or

foundation before specialization–the Foundation Method seeks to

affect a transformative human experience to prepare the trainer/

rider with the best possible grounding for success.
