We are within easy access to 150 lakes,many with beach-side camping,cabin facilities, and white sand

beaches. Hit the waves for some fast-pacedwater sports, cruise the trails for biking andhiking splendour or just kick back and relax foran evening around a warm campfire.

But it’s not all about the trails, trees and wavesthe Lac La Biche Region also offers visitors thechance to explore some of Western Canada’soldest history. Lac La Biche is one of the oldestcommunities in Alberta, with more than 200years of history built on generations of multi-cultural influence. The ethnic mosaic of the areaincludes the language and culture of French,Arabic, Italian, Ukrainian, German and Russiandescent.

The area’s Aboriginal population is mainlyCree, and includes two First Nationcommunities and two Métis Settlements.

• Lac La Biche County has a population of 11,000.

• There are 150 lakes and 1,500 campsites within50 kilometres of the Hamlet of Lac La Biche.

• Lac La Biche is Alberta’s second-oldest townsite,with settlement first recognized in 1798.

• Lac La Biche County has one of Canada’s largestpopulations of Muslim people.

On July 28, 1908, Joseph Plamondon and a smallgroup of French settlers arrived in north-easternAlberta from Michigan, intent on starting a new life.

A century later, the place they established is now a bustlingcommunity.
