2011 Frankfurt Autoshow

• The 2011 Frankfurt Autoshow (IAA) runs from September 15-25, 2011

• This is one of the biggest autoshows in Europe

• Most every automotive brand for sale in Europe has some kind of presence here

• Several automotive suppliers and aftermarket companies are also present

• It is held bi-annually in Frankfurt, Germany• Here are some of the highlights of this

year‘s show

Mini

• Mini announced that the 2 millionth Mini had rolled off the production line

• Mini introduced 2 new models

125 Years of Mercedes

• Mercedes is celebrating their 125th year• They‘ve had lots of innovative features and cars in their

illustrious history• There are lots of great models on display in their exhibit

hall including their hybrids and AMG special editions• Mercedes is doing a live stream from the IAA on their

Facebook fanpage.• They have a video on their German site which shows

various Mercedes through the years honking „Happy Birthday“

• There are several older Mercedes on display in an „Old Timers“ exhibit that are worth checking out

Ford Evos

• „Our cloud-connected vision shows the enormous potential of tailoring the driving experience to suit the personal tastes and moods of the driver – such as highlighting a great driving road recommended by friends on a social networking site“ Paul Mascarenas, Chief Technology Officer –

• I was looking forward to seeing this car after seeing a preview article of it on Mashable

• While this is only a concept car, it gives us a glimpse into some of the things that Ford is currently thinking about in terms of features and design and it is likely that many elements of this car will make into future models from Ford

• This car demonstrates a „connected“ state that I noticed with several manufactures and suppliers

• Oh, by the way it is a hybrid. • It can select the between combinations of all-electic

and hybrid modes based on your travel route, which can take into account zero emission zones

Smart

Amazing, what you can do with a Smart!

Chevrolet Celebrates 100 Years

VW

A new Beetle & a truck!

Brabus

• Brasbus introduced a V12 super car, hybrid, & fully electric model

• Brabus does increable customization including some amazing things being done with Smarts

Opel

• Opel had two concept vehicles on display (shown upper left corner)

• The new Zafaria is show with bikes above

• The Ampera shown as a concept in 2009 was out in full force

Land Rover

• Land Rover had two concepts on display (shown on the right side includng the Red Cross/Cresent vehicle in silver)

• Be sure to check out my pictures on Flickr to see the Land Rovers from all the angles (they come a lot closer to being fully dimensional that way!)

Jeep

• Jeep has had a history of creative product display and this year has been no different!

• Don‘t we all expect Jeep‘s to be able to climb walls?

Concept Vehicles Everywhere

• There were amazing concept vehicles to be seen everywhere!

• Here are just a few on display from Citroen, Renault, Infinity, Toyota, and BMW

Old Timers

• Cars and trucks are so much more that pure transpotation you can feel the history, maybe even look back fondly at a certain time

• There are quite a few classic cars and old timers throughout the exibits

• There‘s a building with several old timers on display

Mobility and Social Media

• Now several cars are now being sold with their TomTom devices (in addition to the navigational units that many of us have already)

• I spoke to a woman at TomTom who told me that they created an iPad app based on requests from their customers. They‘re doing all kinds of creative things in this space

• Several of the manufacturers and suppliers are starting to do more and more with data in the cloud, allowing users to access there data almost anywhere and they‘re looking at more and more services as a way of satifying their customers and improving their profits

• The Ford Evos is an exciting concept car that shows some of the things that Ford is thinking about and will probably be brining to it‘s cars in the future. Ford has been an automotive pioneer in social media, so it‘ll be interesting to see what develops here

• Cars are getting more and more social, lets see where it takes us

In Conclusion

• I had a blast at the show this year. The time that I spent there was not nearly enough, I probably could have spent several more days looking around
