opening Keynotedo the right thing: How dedicated employees create loyal customers & large profitsas Ceo of Southwest airlines during September 11, Jim Parker continued the airline’s strong customer-focused culture and record profitability during an extremely difficult time – especially for the airline industry.

Jim Parker strongly believes that the culture of an organization can be a great benefit in good economic times but is absolutely essential in bad economic times. He stresses the “round earth” principle, which means developing a strong respect for your employees so that they will do the same for your customers on their own initiative. When times are tough, that respect and appreciation transcend a purchasing consumer’s decision to save money.

Jim will share his experiences and how an employee-first culture, mutual respect and a common mission contributed to Southwest’s remarkable success and how you can apply those lessons to home care.

About Jim Parker: during Jim’s tenure as Ceo, Southwest was named one of the three most admired companies in america by Fortune magazine; and airline of the Year by Air Transport World magazine. Jim was also

named Co-Ceo of the Year in 2001 by Morningstar.com, and was named to institutional investor’s list of Best Ceo’s in america in 2004. Jim’s proudest accomplishment, however, comes from the fact that Southwest airlines was able to protect the jobs of all of its employees, with no furloughs or pay cuts in the aftermath of September 11, while also remaining profitable every quarter and year during his tenure.

Jim presently serves on the Board of directors of the successful texas roadhouse restaurant company, and serves on the advisory Council for the Mit Sloan Business School Leadership Center. He is

also the author of Do the Right Thing – How Dedicated Employees Produce Loyal Customers and Large Profits.

Hospital Focus group: What Hospitals are looking for in Home care providers in a fast-paced Q&a format, hospital executives and physicians will give their feedback on how home health agencies can become preferred post-acute partners to hospitals. What is the overall hospital perspective on home health agencies? What is on their wish list for successful partners? What are the biggest mistakes home health operators make with hospital discharges? What drGs are best suited for home health to capture? Will the growing emphasis on hospital readmissions change the way hospitals do business with home health? What home health clinical and measurement capabilities are on hospitals’ future wish-lists?

capturing the care management Slice of the Healthcare reform pieChronic care management represents the most costly segment of the healthcare system, and the segment is also considerably fragmented. as reform plays out, there will be an increasing focus on addressing chronic care as well as hospital readmissions to reduce the nation’s healthcare costs. Home care brings a number of competencies to chronic care management, but how can agencies put themselves in the driver’s seat? How well prepared is your organization to provide chronic care management? this panel will address the strategic importance and positioning of this opportunity for both the sector and individual agencies.

the pursuit of therapy excellencethe single most financially impactful and politically charged issue in all of home care is the utilization, documentation and reimbursement of therapy services. the growth in both the complexity of cases and the documentable need for therapy visits requires responsible agencies to provide similarly complex therapy offerings. From a leadership perspective, critical questions need to be answered:n What are the key PPS changes and what is the real

impact to agency operations? n Given the impact, what strategies are agencies

implementing to ensure success for their therapy service programs?

Home care and the post-acute care continuum

as healthcare reform moves toward bundling payments, home care providers will no longer be receiving payment from Medicare, but rather directly from hospitals and doctors. the question then becomes, how do home care providers become the attractive prospect for hospitals and doctors to form these relationships and promote the stability of the continuum. experts will discuss the issues related to the Post acute Care Continuum, focusing on the six key things they must do today: bend the cost curve; understand and capitalize on strengths; better use technology; focus on patients not process; connect quality to value; and build new relationships.
