    CollingwoodCollingwood is located one and a half-hours northwest of the Greater TorontoArea in Ontarios Georgian-Triangle Region. Located between the NiagaraEscarpment and Nottawasaga Bay on Georgian Bay, Collingwood is a friendly

    town with a traditional downtown. The town offers year round outdoor recreationincluding hiking, biking, boating and both downhill and cross-country skiing.

    Upon arrival, students will be met by their host families at the school location and enjoy a welcome receptionwhere they will be officially greeted. Students will return home with families to settle in for the exciting daysahead

    Homestay ProgrammeLiving with a local family is the ideal way to integrate into Canadian culture. Visitors become atrue member of the family and the community and participate in all the activities of daily life andpractice their English. Each family has a strong interest to welcome an international visitor into

    their home and is eager to provide a friendly, supportive and nurturing environment. Familiesbelieve that hosting a student is a rewarding and unique experience that will not only enrich thelife of the young student, but that of their familys as well. Host families come from a variety ofcultural backgrounds and circumstances. We enlist a wide range of suitable families as hosts including, retiredcouples, single parent families and childless families.

    Daily ProgrammeMonday - Friday9:00am: On the first morning, the ESL teachers will conduct oral examinations to determine

    the students proficiency in EnglishESL class. All classes will be themed to highlight Canadian history, culture,

    geography and environment. Students will participate in a variety of reading,writing and creative activities in a challenging and exciting atmosphere12:00pm: Lunch at programme location (bagged lunch provided by host family)1:00pm: Afternoon Activity4:00pm: Return to host family

    Farewell CeremonyBefore departure all students and hosts will gather collectively for a Farewell Ceremony the last weekday prior toscheduled departure. On this day students will have a half day of programming, and preparation time in the

    afternoon for the evenings event.

    The evening of the farewell ceremony students and their host families will gather for a farewell party.Refreshments will be served and there will be presentations of certificates and performances by the students.

    DepartureThe morning of departure students will have a chance to say goodbye to their host families before departing.

    AFTERNOON ACTIVITIES

    Below are descriptions of the activities listed in the day to day calendar shown above.Description of Canadian AssistantsStudents will be joined by Canadian Assistants from their community for13 or 15 program days. Students willintegrate into the classroom as well as afternoon activities to encourage the students to immerse themselves intothe new culture, as well as to gain insight into each others lives. Students will be similar in age to the studentsparticipating in the program. (1 Canadian Assistant: 10 Students). Student Assistants will also be invited to join inon the full day excursions however their participation is not guaranteed.

    Community OrientationToday students will receive a community orientation through a walking tour. On your walk you willlearn about the different industries in your small town and what makes the community in which you

    are staying unique.

    Collingwood Downtown ShoppingStudents will enjoy shopping at in shops in downtown Collingwood. Students can browse through the variousgoods available in all the stores and may even choose to pick up souvenirs to bring back home.

    Collingwood Scenic Caves/Suspension BridgeCarved by millions of years of glacial ice, the Scenic Caves Nature Preserve is a wonder of nature thatattracts and fascinates visitors of all ages from around the world. The site commands the peak of aprecipice on the famous Niagara Escarpment from which you can view the Town of Collingwood, thespectacular shoreline of Georgian Bay and several thousand square miles of unsurpassed scenery.Throughout the Caves, rare and exotic plants, including the Maidenhead Fern, grow and flourish. Thesuspension bridge allows visitors to experience 10,000-square-kms view all the way to Georgian Baywhile standing 300 meters above the ground on the bridge.

    CanoeingThis afternoon students will receive canoe instruction from certified instructors. Students will travel to a localbody of water and will learn some paddling techniques before paddling. There is often the opportunity for a swimin the water during the activity session. Students will be required to sign a waiver as well as wear protective gearand PFD (personal floatation device) for this activity.

    Blue MountainStudents will enjoy some shopping and free time among the many shops in the Blue Mountain

    village. Blue Mountain is a popular year round destination among local residents for its manyavailable activities and local charm. Take a gondola ride up to the peak of Blue Mountain andview the beautiful scenery overlooking Georgian Bay.

    SoccerSoccer is known as the most popular sport in the world. It is an exciting sport that can be playedby individuals of all ages and skill sets. Student will enjoy a game of soccer on an outdoor soccerfield.

    Basketball

    One of North Americas most popular sports is basketball. A Canadian invented sport basketball is a widelyplayed sport among Canadian youth. Today students will learn the rules of the game, practice their skills throughdrills and play a game of basketball (full team, 3 on 3 or 2 on 2).

    Wonderland (Full Day Excursion)Paramount Canada's Wonderland is Canada's premier theme park and features over 200attractions, more than 60 thrilling rides, North America's greatest variety of roller coasters, andSplash Works, a 20-acre water park. Today students will enjoy a bagged lunch from their hostfamily.

    Picnic in the Park

    Today students will enjoy a picnic in the park in a local park. Students will bring a bagged lunch and eat itoutdoors. After lunch students can explore the park, relax or play some games.

    Film StudyToday students will enjoy watching movie in the class room and spend fun time watching movie in English.

    First Nations StudyStudents will take part in a First Nations Study in which they will meet with members of a local First Nations groupand/or learn about Native heritage, culture and art. This will give the group insight into the aboriginal people of thearea they are visiting.

    Wasaga Beach (Full Day Excursion)The soft white sand feels warm on your bare feet, the sun is shining on your head and shoulders, aseagull circles above, and in front of you, the amazing, ever-changing azure waters ofNottawasaga Bay continue as far as the eye can see. This playground is, in fact, the longestfreshwater beach in the world, stretching in a ribbon of sand for 14 kilometres. Wasaga Beach isfamous, too, for its breathtaking sunsets. Today students will enjoy a bagged lunch from their hostfamily.

    Shopping in BarrieStudents will enjoy browsing the shops at the local mall in Collingwood.

    Capture the FlagThis is a very popular game among Canadians. Students will enjoy playing this game which involves team work

    and strategy.

    Ultimate FrisbeeThis afternoon students will participate in a North American game called Ulitmate Frisbee. Students will learnabout the game as well as techniques that involve throwing a plastic disc a Frisbee. Students will enjoy 1 or 2games. This activity will build on students listening skills as well as their ability to communicate with each otheras they will need to work together to earn points.

    The Wye Marsh Centre (Full Day Excursion with St. Marie Among the Huron)The Wye Marsh Centre is one of Ontarios premier interpretive wetland areas, featuring acres ofpristine wetland. Students will enjoy nature walks along the boardwalk and learn about animals

    through interpretive exhibits.Today students will enjoy a bagged lunch from their host family.

    Sainte-Marie among the Hurons, Midland (Full Day Excursion with Wye Marsh)Sainte-Marie among the Hurons is an internationally significant historic site, living museum and amust-see national treasure! Sainte-Marie was the 17th century fortress and headquarters for theFrench Jesuit mission to the Huron (aboriginal) nation and was Ontario's first Europeancommunity. After extensive archaeological and historical research, Sainte-Marie among theHurons now stands recreated on the original site where its compelling aboriginal story is brought tolife once again. Students will see through demonstrations how the native Canadians lived severalhundred years ago.

    Party Preparation DayStudents will take this time to make some decorations and crafts to help decorate the banquet hallin preparation for this evenings party. They will have time to practice their performances or set uptheir displays depending on how they choose to express their thanks to their host families.

    Option 2: Overnight Excursion to Ottawa Thursday July 14- Sunday July 17

    Canadian Museum of CivilizationPresents over 10,000 years of Canada's pre-history, history and culture, theMuseum building is an architectural masterpiece -- a symbolic depiction of aland sculpted by winds, waters and glaciers at the end of the Ice Age, whenhumans first crossed into Canada from Asia.

    Students will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.

    Ottawa River/Canal CruisePauls Boat Lines is the ideal sightseeing venue. The tourist has the choice tosee the scenery of Ottawa from the open air environment found on the upperdeck or to relax with his/her elbows resting on the tables to be found in theroomy lower deck. The cruise offers you the view of the city as it was first

    conceived with the river as its main highway and resource. You will also see thenatural beauty of the region that captured the imagination of the first Europeanexplorer Samuel de Champlain.

    Students will return back to your hotel for the night before enjoying dinner at a local restaurant.

    7:00 am Students will depart Ottawa for Kingston Ontario.

    Upon arrival to Kingston students will participate in the 1000 Island Cruises.

    Kingston's Discovery Cruise provides a fascinating introduction to the sights and history of the1000 Islands region and Kingstons historic waterfront narrated by a caricature of Canadas FirstPrime Minister and Kingston native son, Sir John A. Macdonald.

    12:00 pm Students will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in Kingston before departing for the hostcommunity of Collingwood

    Students will stop for a quick dinner on the way home.

    7:00 pm Drop off in Collingwood to meet host families
