CAMP BOOK 2011

Welcome Campers! The Directors, Board Members and staff of The Jamaica Christian Mission welcome you to the

Constant Spring Christian Service Camp.

For over 56 years we have been able to carry on these camps for you as a tool to “get away” and join

other young people your age in a fun-filled week.

Here you can participate in Classes, Singspiration, Drama, Sports, Devotions, Campfires, and much

more.

We encourage you to take this time to become a Christian, and we challenge those who are

Christians to become more Christ-like.

We also encourage you to lend a hand of love to those who have traveled from afar to come to

Jamaica and share their lives and testimonies with you. It is our prayer that life long friendships will

be made.

May God bless you all through your time at camp and may you totally enjoy the Christian

fellowship.

The National Anthem

Eternal Father, Bless our land,

Guard us with Your mighty hand

Keep us free from evil powers,

Be our light through countless hours;

To our leaders, Great defender,

Grant true wisdom from above;

Justice, Truth be ours forever,

Jamaica, land we love.

Jamaica, Jamaica, Jamaica, land we love.

Teach us true respect for all,

Stir response to duty’s call;

Strengthen us the weak to cherish,

Give us vision least we perish;

Knowledge send us, Heavenly Father,

Grant true wisdom from above;

Justice, truth, be ours forever,

Jamaica land we love.

Jamaica, Jamaica, Jamaica, land we love.

Pledge to the Bible I pledge allegiance to the Bible, God’s Holy Word. I’ll

make it a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path;

It’s words will I hide in my heart that I may not sin against God.

Camp Motto

“Study to show yourself approved unto God a workman that need not be ashamed, rightly dividing

the word of truth.”

II Timothy 2:15

Taps

Day is done, gone the sun

From the lake, from the hill, from the sky

All is well, safely rest

God is nigh

Jesus calls, Jesus calls

Calls to you, calls to me, calls to all

Hear His call, hear His plea

Follow me

He splashed orange in the sunrise

and cast the sky blue.

And if you love to see geese as they gather,

chances are you’ll see that, too.

Did he have to make the squirrel’s tail furry?

Was he obliged to make the birds sing?

And the funny way that chickens scurry

or the majesty of thunder when it rings?

What give a flower fragrance? Why give food its taste?

Could it be

He loves to see

that look upon your face?

Monday: Maximizing the Use of Your Time

Text: Ecclesiastes 3: 1-14, Joshua 1: 6-9

One of the most critical thing with which we have to contend is the use of our time and resources. Man has

various ways of measuring this phenomenon. We are accustomed to seconds, hours, days, months, and

etcetera. While we utilize it we cannot control it. What we can do is to maximize its usage. That is to make the

most of each second, hour, day, month etcetera.

One of the first principles is to know what time of day you function best. For some people, they function

best in the morning while others function best at night. What time of day do you function best? With this

knowledge you can use your best time to study God's word. You need a system. One of the best methods is to

study one book of the Bible by going through the chapters. You may be able to read one or two chapters at a

time. Another good method is to use a Daily Bread and read the scriptures listed in the daily devotions.

Joshua, who took over from Moses, was promised success of he made good use of his time. He was told to

meditate on the book of the law day and night. How much time do you spend with your phone? If you are

spending more time with your phone than the Bible you need to transform that way and spend more time with

God's word. Joshua was not only told to study but he was also told to do all that was listed in the book of the

law. That principle is still applicable today. The more we study God's word is the more we should apply the

teaching to our lives. Was Joshua successful? (Discuss). Hence, transform the way you use your time and

make the most of it.

Memory Verse: "Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that

you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful" (Joshua 1:8)

TRANSFORM NUH COMFORM

Tuesday: God wants Transformation; Conforming is for cowards

Text: Daniel 3: 1-30

According to Wordreference.com Online English Dictionary transform means to undergo a process of marked change

in nature, form, or appearance. As God calls us to be transformed in order to adopt a godly lifestyle (Romans 12:1-2),

God wants us to go through a process that involves a change in purpose (nature), make-up (form), and look

(appearance). Through this process of transformation, we will become a brave soldier for God so that others may see

our unwavering commitment and devotion to God and follow Him. By continuing to follow and conform to this world

indicates cowardice- a fear of rejection and isolation from our friends, family members, and co-workers. God calls upon

us to stand up for Him despite the consequence even the pain of death. Only by being transformed by God’s spirit, we

will be able to exhibit such bravery.

In today’s bible story, three Hebrew boys who had refused to worship the King’s new golden image were sentenced to

death. Babylon is a place where idolatry was a common activity and since this act of idolatry was the king’s decree

everyone was expected to do it. However, instead of doing the easy thing by conforming to the King’s decree and the

country’s customs, these three Hebrew boys decided to be different. Others saw their difference and reported them to

the king for their non-compliance. The king decided to give them a chance to do the easy thing and conform, but they

did not yield. They decided to give up their lives for God. Due to their unwavering devotion to God, God saved them

from being harmed by the fiery furnace. As a result, the people of Babylon had to acknowledge the power of God, and a

transformation in their attitude to worship took place.

God wants us to stand out in our homes, schools, and communities even if it will cost us friends, family or our lives. By

our stance, others will be led to glorify God. God does not want us be cowards following others out of fear of rejection

and isolation, God wants us to be transformed by his spirit to lead others to be transformed as well.

Memory Verse: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are

not careful to answer thee in this matter. (Daniel 3:16)

Wednesday: Transform By Renewing Your Mind

Text: Daniel 1: 1-20

Nothing will ever change long-term in your behaviour or thought-life if you do not renew your mind! Daniel purposed

in his heart, meant he was determined that he was not going to conform to the king’s routine meals of meat and wine

because it would defile him. His purity was of more value to him than sharing in the king’s portion.

We are in a world that is beckoning to us to partake in the king’s portion, things like body piercings’ and tattoos, illicit

activities and worldly lifestyles because it’s the norm everybody is doing it. Going against the norm is not easy, as you

are going to be in the minority and you are going to be ridiculed and afraid and you may be ashamed or embarrassed.

Conforming to the world is easy, all you have to do is fall in place and follow and slowly fit in to the mould. God

requires holiness and integrity. Let’s make a difference and dare to be a Daniel in today’s world. In the end you will

come out victorious. Look at Daniel 1:18-20.

There is no safe, secure landing for someone jumping outside of God's will. You fall, tumble and feel battered. You feel

stupid for doing it one more time knowing how painful it is. No, God does not give you a safe landing when you jump,

but he is there to pick you up and clean your wounds if you turn to him. The loving hands of a forgiving father are

beyond anything you deserve, and they don't erase the pain of the bruises you have, but they comfort you. They show

you that you are loved by God more than you are loved by yourself.

When you stay within the will of God, the grass is greener, the food is richer and life is fuller. Pray that God will

transform you by renewing your mind. That you will see things HIS way in all areas of your life and that you will not

be vulnerable to Satan's lies. Satan WILL destroy you if you believe him. Please don't believe lies from your enemy!

God's truth is the only thing you need to life peacefully and contently in this life.

Memory Verse “But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's

meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile

himself.” (Daniel 1:8)

Thursday: What should you do?

Text: Daniel 3

Imagine you are at school/work and the principal/boss asked you do something that you don’t feel comfortable doing. If

you don’t do it you are going to get into some SERIOUS trouble; similar to expulsion or being fired.

You look around at the others and one by one they start moving to the task that was asked. But that voice in your head

is still telling you not to do it. The voice is the Holy Spirit. You have finally made up your mind based on your belief in

God and decide that you are not giving in to what was asked by the principal/boss. Two of your closest friends also

decide not to do what has been asked. You have decided to accept whatever punishment will be met out.

But this does not go unnoticed as one of the others that did the task tell on you and your friends. You get called to the

principal’s/boss’s office. He is not very pleased and you know that you are in for it. You start thinking would it have

been easier to just do what was asked or obey God. You choose to obey God and not follow or conform to what

everyone else around you is doing.

This is exactly what happened to the three Hebrew boys. They took a decision not to conform to the King’s request but

be different and take a stand for God regardless of the outcome. God was with them and he got the praise.

You may feel like following the crowd or your friends by having sex, watching blue movies, listening to explicit music,

skipping class or being disrespectful. Challenge yourself to be different and transformed. Dare to stand for God and his

principles. It will always be worth it in the end.

Can people tell you’re a Christian by your actions? Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good

works. If you don’t conform how is this going to happen?

Memory Verse: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father

which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)

Friday: The Life-Changing Decision

Text: Acts 8: 27-39

The greatest life-changing decision that you can make is to accept Jesus as your personal saviour and commit

your life to Him and His work. It first requires an admission that you are a sinner, and only God through his

son Jesus can save you from your sins. After having confessed Jesus publicly, you then enter into watery

baptism with Him. Making this life-changing decision is the greatest act of transformation that God wants

you to make. A good time to make that decision if you have not done so is today (Literally because today

would be baptism day). If you have already made this decision then you have to be transformed by the

renewal of your mind offer yourself a living sacrifice holy and acceptable unto God (Romans 12: 1-2). In

Practice How can we offer ourselves as a living sacrifice unto God? (Discuss).

In today’s bible lesson, the Ethiopian Eunuch of great authority met Philip while leaving Jerusalem. Philip

through the spirit of God joined himself to the Eunuch’s chariot and saw him bewildered as he read a scripture

from the book of Isaiah. Philip explained to him the scripture and also when how it was fulfilled through

Jesus’ death at Calvary. The scripture said that when the Eunuch understood he asked his chariot to stop and

requested Philip to baptize him. After his acceptance of God’s salvation and his baptism the Eunuch went

away rejoicing. His life was transformed from that day. This Eunuch made the ultimate transformation by

making the life-changing decision. Do you want to experience joy the Eunuch did? Then if so accept Jesus as

your personal saviour today. For those who have already accepted him, keep him.

Memory Verse “And as they went on their way, they came unto certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is

water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? (Acts 8:36)

Camp Facts!

Did you know?

1. That we’ve been having these camps for over 56 years.

2. That the camps were first started by Donald and Maxine Fream. Adele and Harry Hill continued the

tradition for many years. The Board of JCM is happy to continue this tradition.

3. That most campers return to camp after several years to participate in one way or another.

4. That these same campers have grown up to be your ministers and teachers in the churches you are

attending.

5. Someday your children may be attending these camps, Lord willing.

6. The present camp site was used as a Bible College in the 1940's and 50's (Jamaica Bible Seminary)

and is still being used to educate teachers and preachers in Jamaica.

7. That many American youth spend their first mission trip at camp learning to serve others by serving

you.
