Early College Advisory Board Updates
Our board’s last meeting was held Friday May 18th at Lone Star- North Harris
The board’s priorities for the 2012-2013 school year are:

Parental Involvement Network(P.I.N.)
Purpose:Created to foster parental engagement by •Building academic partnerships among parents•Support student success through monthly parental seminars
Parental Involvement Network(P.I.N.)The Network will provide insight into all you need to know to support your students’ success.
Transportation Changes 2012-2013 School Year
• All students will be picked up and dropped off from their home school bus stop each morning and evening.
• All students who live within the 2 mile radius of their home school will be picked up and dropped off at the home school each morning and evening.
Transportation Changes 2012-2013 School Year cont.
• Transportation will require a courtesy call if students will not use the bus service on a specific date.
• More than 3 times of not using the service without a courtesy call will result in discontinued bus service for the stop.

2012-2013 Academic Schedules/Changes
• School Start: 8:00am M-F
• School End: 3:30pm M-Th
• School End : Fridays 2:20pm (not confirmed as of yet)
• Class times will be 1hr 20min to match college schedule
• AVID class added to student schedules
• NO LATE WORK ACCEPTED
• Increase number of lunches
• Passing period will be extended to 7-10min
• Schedules will be created specific to student need- **some
students attend classes 45min each day** other students
attend 1hr 20min classes every other day
Individualization and Intervention
• What are we doing specifically for your child?
1).We have built the master schedule based on the individual academic needs of the students
2). AVID- allows students the opportunity learn to be successful through study and mentoring skills. AVID is also assigned based on the content area that students need support in

• Academically the Compass scores must meet criteria.

What do I need to do to support my child in reaching academic excellence?
• Have an awareness of all places and people who can help your student.
• Tutoring is available at Early College and Lone Star - North Harris at no charge.
• Late bus transportation is available two days a week at Early College.
• Peer tutors have been working with students this year and will continue to assist next year through AVID.
• Principal, Academic Dean, Instructional Coach, students, and teachers are resources for your student.
How do I monitor my student’s success
• Access the mylonestar account that links to your student’s grades for college courses
• Use Parent Connect on the Early College website to check your student’s high school courses
• Advocate for your student
