WESTMINSTER CATAWBA CHRISTIAN SCHOOL IS A MINISTRY OF WESTMINSTER PRESBYTERIAN CHURCHAND IS GOVERNED BY A BOARD OF TRUSTEES UNDER THE

ABOUT US

Policy Governance Model. The Head of School is the one employee of the Board and is responsible for the management of WCCS. The Head of School works collaboratively with the WCCS Leadership Team to oversee the management of our school. The Academic Team provides oversight to the academic programming at WCCS and is made up of administrators and faculty from all areas of our school. Members bring their expertise and perspective to discussions concerning the instructional programming at our school.

The basic principle of Policy Governance is the creation of End Statements, which are the mission-related policies that embody the Board’s long-range vision. Below are the End Statements for Westminster Catawba Christian School.

Westminster Catawba Christian School exists so that students are devoted followers of Jesus Christ, scholars of His truth, and stewards of His gifts.

Followers of Jesus Christ who… • are committed to a personal relationship with Him • know and apply God’s word • love and serve their fellow man • exhibit godly character, the fruit of the spirit

Scholars of His truth who… • excel academically to their personal best • articulate a biblical worldview and defend the Christian faith • possess the skills to think critically, logically, and independently • develop proficiency in a college-prep core curriculum • are equipped for a lifetime of learning

Stewards of His gifts who… • use all of their gifts for God’s glory • manage all resources well • build on their strengths and manage their weaknesses

Page 4: 2011-2012 Annual Report

As we celebrate the blessings of this past 2011-2012 school year and are enjoying what the Lord has been doing for WCCS during the 2012-2013 academic year, we look to our theme verse: “Be devoted to one another with mutual love, showing eagerness in honoring one another. Do not lag in zeal, be enthusiastic in Spirit, serve the Lord,” Romans 12:10-11 (NET).

From its beginnings, our school has been committed to serving one another in the community of Christ, and we are thankful for the many ways that students, parents, faculty, staff, and friends support and uphold each other every day. In 2013, we will mark the 20th anniversary of the merger of Westminster Christian School and Catawba Academy and the 40th anniver-sary of the 1st graduating class of Catawba Academy, the Class of 1973. To celebrate these momentous occasions, we reach out to our alumni and local constituents, building on the relationships that already make this a truly vibrant place for Christian education.

This Annual Report provides an opportunity to reflect on the Lord’s goodness to us, building confidence that our school is moving forward and building momentum towards new and renewed opportunities. As of July 19, 2012, we give glory to God for being completely debt-free from the over $1.3 million debt we incurred in 2004. We also installed Promethean boards in Westminster Campus classrooms and introduced the Accelerated Reader Program. The Catawba Campus expanded course offerings through Horizons online curriculum. Both campuses took a new direction for world language offerings for elementary and middle school students using interactive technology offered through Rosetta Stone Classroom.

We are excited about the addition of three new Board members, Charlie Westbrook, Bryan Pressley, and John Haley who provide great contributions to our board. We all love hearing the testimonies of how the Lord has led people to WCCS and we are thrilled to welcome 85 new students, representing 67 new families this year. These numbers include the 12 new international students we welcomed this year from the countries of S Korea, Vietnam, China and Spain for a total of 14 in the 2011-2012 school year. This year, the Board is devoting their time to two main initiatives. First, the review and updat-ing of our Strategic Plan established in 2008, aligning with the school’s values, vision and mission and the ACSI Continuous School Improvement Plan. Secondly, we will be studying enrollment trends and how to effectively serve our community for Christ.

We rejoice to see these transformations taking place and we are grateful for the many initiatives that continue to enhance the instructional experience for our students, faculty, and families. Our ongoing commitment is to be a school that is Christ-centered, student-focused and family-oriented. Thank you for your commitment to Kingdom Education for your family and for your prayers and support of the Board, administration, faculty, and staff.

In Christ,

Steve Moore, Chairman of the Board of Trustees Ray Casey, Head of School

DEVELOPMENT

THE OFFICE OF DEVELOPMENT AT WCCS HAD ANOTHER BUSY YEAR COORDINATING FUNDRAISING EFFORTS AND COMMUNICATING OPPORTUNITIES FOR GIVING TO CURRENT FAMILIES AND FRIENDS. THANKS TO THE MANY VOLUNTEERS THAT HELPED US ALONG THE WAY. WE COULDN’T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU! BELOW IS AN OVERVIEW OF HIGHLIGHTS FROM

$75,000 MATCHING GRANT CHALLENGEBecause of your generosity, we have special reason to celebrate and give glory to the God who redeems and sustains us. Many thanks to all of our WCCS community that participated in the challenge match toward debt reduction. We were able to meet the "challenge" by raising $75,000 and our school was then awarded a $75,000 matching grant from an anonymous donor. As of July 19, 2012, we are completely debt-free! Thank you for embracing this vision of financial freedom for our school and persevering through your continued support to put this debt to rest. God is truly gracious to us and “shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” Philippians 4:19 (NKJ).

ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT ANDCHRISTIAN CHARACTER (AACC) SCHOLARSHIPCongratulations to Charlie Westbrook, the 2011-2012 recipient of the AACC Scholarship. This scholarship was established in 2008 and awards one rising senior with a $1,000 scholarship towards his or her senior year’s tuition at WCCS. In order to apply, an 11th

grade student must have a cumulative GPA of 4.0 or higher, submit an 800-1200 word essay describing someone of outstanding Christian character, and strive to model Christ in their daily life in a way that is evident to all.

ANNUAL FUNDThis year’s Annual Fund raised over $80,000 thanks to our many generous donors! WCCS was able to meet the most pressing needs of our school by purchasing new textbooks, increasing funds for scholarships, and improving technology at our school.

BOOSTERTHON FUNRUN This past year, the Boosterthon Fun Run raised over $11,000 for WCCS. This was a great community builder for the entire school as students learned valuable lessons about community, Christian character, fitness and leadership. We appreciate the help of all of our volunteers, students, parents, faculty and staff that helped make this event a success.

CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP We had many families and friends that supported WCCS with their business advertising dollars during the 2011-2012 school year. Our corporate sponsorship program was a great success with over $25,000 going toward advertising at WCCS. The proceeds from this support fine arts and athletic programming at WCCS as well as overall academic programming.

GRANDPARENT’S DAY We had a record number of grandparents come out in April to enjoy Grandparent’s Day on the Westminster Campus. The keynote speaker was Mrs. Kristen Davis Rhyne, grandparent and former Westminster Christian School principal. Thanks to the many volunteers that helped behind the scenes to make this event possible. Our grandparents are GREAT and make up nearly 40% of our donor base at WCCS! Go grandparents!

HIGH COTTON SPORTING CLAYS SHOOT The 22nd Annual High Cotton sporting clays event was another HUGE success! In the last 20 years, this event has raised nearly $350,000 for our school. This year, High Cotton gave $16,500 to scholarships at WCCS. Thanks to our board members, WCCS student trappers and all of our volunteers and participants who helped with this wonderful event. To find out more information about High Cotton, please visit their website at www.highcottonclassic.com.

MISSION TRIP Over $45,000 was raised to send a team to the Dominican Republic for the sixth year. In June, 24 students and 8 adults traveled to Fountain of Life School in Juan Tomas, Dominican Republic. Each year, the mission team works hard to gather much needed supplies for the classrooms at the school in Juan Tomas. This year, they were able to take with them 20 bags of school supplies for teachers and students. This tremendous gift was much appreciated by teachers and students at the Fountain of Life School. The missionaries were amazed at the students’ hard work and their ability to make lasting relationships with the Dominicans.

DEVELOPMENTCONTINUED

P.A.T. (PARENTS APPRECIATING TEACHERS) The 2011-2012 school year ushered in a reorganization of PTF. P.A.T. (Parents Appreciating Teachers) was formed with Michele Martin as Coordinator. P.A.T. spent the year focused on blessing teachers and staff through various initiatives including Teacher Appreciation Week and gifts for birthdays and Christmas. In addition, P.A.T. sponsored the Back to School Bash on the Catawba Campus in August, 2011. Through fundraising efforts of a Cookie Dough Sale and Spirit Nights at local restaurants, approximately $6,552 was raised to serve the WCCS family.

SENIOR SERVICE TRIP Our 2012 senior class had a great time serving the Lord and fellowshipping with one another in Costa Rica on March 9-15. Over $17,000 was raised so our senior class and several teachers and chaperones could spend

a week working in Costa Rica. Service projects included leading Vacation Bible Studies for a church, food distribution to the needy and homeless and visitation at an orphanage. The trip was a life-altering event that forever changed our Seniors’ perspective on all that God is doing in their lives and around the world.

TECHNOLOGY UPGRADES WCCS was blessed with over $27,000 in donations toward technology this year. Because of these generous donations, twelve new Promethean boards were added to the Westminster Campus so that each classroom is now outfitted with this equipment. NEO2 technology premier writing devices were also added for classroom use along with the Accelerated Reader program. This new technology allows teachers to incorporate technology in the classroom as students learn through hands-on and interactive experiences. Teachers and students are excited to have this new technology!

WCCS GOLF CLASSIC The 2012 WCCS Golf Classic sponsored by Nutramax Laboratories was held in April at the Rock Hill Country Club. This golf tournament raises funds for our school and has been a huge success over the past eight years. WCCS raised over $10,000 to impact the lives of children and families for Christ. Many thanks to the generosity of sponsors, players, and friends. By participating in this event, you have played a strategic role in the ongoing development of Westminster Catawba Christian School.

OTHER FUNDRAISINGThank you for your Boxtop for Education submissions. These are a great way to help our school at no extra cost to you! Together we raised another $1,535 for our classrooms! Keep turning these labels in to the school offices and don’t forget to write your teacher’s

name on the outside of the bag if you want your child’s class to get credit for the end of the year ice cream party. You can go to www.boxtopsforeducation.com for a list of various products that qualify. In addition, we received over $1,600 in funds with the linking of your grocery store cards and accounts from places like Bi-Lo, Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Target and Comporium. Don’t forget to relink those cards each year. This can be as simple as visiting the customer service desk of your local grocery store or visiting the store website and registering online! Logoworks spiritwear generated over $550 in sales this past year. This is a great way to support your school and show your Indian pride. Make sure to check out our new spiritwear designs at the next game.
