Dear Readers

This Annual Report is published online each November after the schoolrsquos external audit is completed in late October Its intent is to offer an overview of FISrsquo strategic objectives and accomplishments enrollment trends and demographics student performance data and the financial accounting of the previous academic and fiscal year

The 2010-11 school year was one of historic significance at the school as it celebrated its 50th Anniversary To commemorate this event there were alumni reunion events a formal gala celebration and multiple school ldquobirthdayrdquo parties for students and parents alike A hard-bound history of the school was penned by Clive Fenner and Lucy Grass and remains available for those wishing to purchase a coffee-table book full of wonderful FIS pictures and memories

The 50th Anniversary also provided an opportunity to make some key changes to our Wiesbaden campus which changed its name from International School Wiesbaden (ISW) to FIS Wiesbaden or FISW It also made the change to end its Grade offerings after Grade 5 bringing it in line with the elementary Primary Years Programme at the Oberursel campus Finally this year also marked Andrea Rosingerrsquos first year as the new FISW principal after many years serving as the schoolrsquos associate principal

On the Oberursel campus the cafeteria was completely renovated to ease student waiting-time in lunch lines and ensure the school maintained the highest food service standards The Board of Trustees also approved the design and funding of a newly renovated performing arts auditorium that will increase capacity to 500 audience members as well as installing new sound and lighting systems to support performances in dance drama and music

A new Strategic Plan was adopted in 201011 that will guide the school through the 201516 school year Like the previous five-year plan that was completed in 2011 the new blueprint for the schoolrsquos future is very ambitious calling for new advances in instruction technology fundraising and professional development among other challenging goals The plan was reached after a summit of students parents faculty staff and Board members reviewed hard data and shared their hopes of improving an already fine institution The FIS Mission Statement was also slightly altered during this strategic process to better fit the current vision of the school

In the pages that follow you will learn that FIS students again exceeded world averages on key standardized tests and delivered strong International Baccalaureate Diploma results On our schoolrsquos website you can also peruse photos and video footage of the many artistic performances held on campus as well as news about the numerous athletic competitions and other exchanges that occurred throughout the year

To celebrate a 50th Anniversary as school hopes for an exceptional experience for its community We are pleased to report that 20102011 was just such a year for our entire community and we anticipate the coming 50 years will only add to the schoolrsquos excellent reputation

The 50th Anniversary of Frankfurt International School and the goodwill and excitement created by this momentous occasion had a positive impact on the schoolrsquos community as well as on its centralized fundraising effort the Annual Fund Throughout the school year FIS hosted 50th anniversary events to commemorate the schoolrsquos rich history and leadership in international education culminating with an Alumni Reunion and Gala Celebration over the Worldfest weekend on 20-22 May More than 300 alumni from 26 countries returned to FIS in May to enjoy the anniversary festivities with the schoolrsquos local community and over 650 guests attended the gala dinner and after-party to celebrate their role in the schoolrsquos distinguished past and bright future
