Cox Communications and the Thomas & Mack Center formed a partnershipthat brought the new facility to UNLV and the Las Vegas Community. As partof a $5 million agreement, Cox Communications secured the naming rights forthe facility as well as opportunities for sponsorship and hospitality.

Former UNLV President Dr. Carol Harter stated when it opened, “We arepleased that Cox, a relatively new member of the Southern Nevada corporatecommunity, has chosen to take an active role in supporting both academics andathletics at UNLV. The new Cox Pavilion, like Cox’s donation of televisionequipment and their annual support for a new cable television education channel, will benefit the community in many ways.”

The pavilion is a two-level structure. The ground floor features men’s andwomen’s locker facilities, player lounges and practice courts for basketballand volleyball. The top level is a multi-purpose venue with a seating capacityfor 2,800 and features padded, retractable seating throughout.

“The Cox Pavilion features the best volleyball venue in the country and ourathletes love to play in the bright arena with the home crowd support,” saidAllison Keeley, UNLV’s volleyball head coach. “The size creates an intimateviewing venue where our fans feel like they are part of the match. We appre-ciate the effort on the behalf of UNLV to showcase our team in such a spec-tacular setting.”

Day-to-day preventative medicine on the campus is made easy with the Marilynand Si Redd Sports Medicine Complex. The state-of-the-art operation is a majorpart of the $8.5 million Lied Athletic facility.

Made possible by a generous gift of $1.5 million by Marilyn and Si Redd, theathletic training facility incorporates the total scope of sports medicine over and8,500-square-foot area.

Aside from five staff offices, a rehabilitation room houses a dozen pieces ofequipment including Cybex stationary bicycles, stair machines and treadmills, all under a natural skylight.

The largest area features a dozen tables to offer student-athletes various treat-ments throughout the day. Taping, padding and bracing all take place in anoth-er all-inclusive room.

Finally, an aquatic therapy room features three above-ground whirlpools sur-rounding a 10-feet deep pool for rehabilitative exercises.

All of these features make it possible for UNLV student-athletes to rehabilitateinjuries without ever needing to leave the Lied Athletic Complex.

Other amenities include a physician’s office and exam room to provide dailymedical service for student-athletes. A drug-testing facility also is part of thenew complex. This expedites medical care because the student-athletes healthcare is self-contained.

Also, UNLV’s academic program and its student athletic trainers benefit from asports medicine library, study room and conference facility.

“This is one of the top complexes in the nation because of the versatility it offersto service student-athletes in every area of sports medicine,” says Kyle Wilson,UNLV’s Director of Athletic Training. “We’re now more efficient, more acces-sible and more effective in preventing and rehabilitating athletic injuries.”

MEET THE REBELSMEET THE REBELS 1111

The 2010 UNLV Rebels

Page 14: 2010 UNLV Volleyball Media Guide

The 2010 UNLV Volleyball team will have a muchdifferent appearance than it has had in previousseasons. This year’s squad will feature six return-ing letterwinners, nine newcomers and two newassistant coaches.

The new-look Rebels plan to restore the winningways popularized by head coach Allison Keeley, since her arrival in 2004.

The Rebels had a successful run of winning at least15 matches for five straight years prior to lastyear's eight-win output. In the 13 years prior toAllison Keeley's arrival, the program had only wit-nessed two seasons of reaching the 15-win plateau.

The 2010 edition will be comprised of four seniors, one junior, three sophomores and eight freshmen. The four seniors (Kelsey Keeler, Kela Lau Hee,Jeralynn Makaiwi and Sara Nehf) know what ittakes to be winners, as they are the final holdoversfrom the record-setting 2007 campaign that pro-duced a 24-6 mark en route to the program's firstconference championship and trip to the NCAAtournament. The quartet will be counted on to pro-vide senior leadership and experience with such ayoung roster.

Junior Amanda Alles and sophomore Nile Te'oround out the six letterwinners from 2009's cam-paign.

“The core of our team is the returning starters, whohad a fantastic spring,” said Keeley. “Based ontheir strengths, our plan is to serve tough, playgreat defense and be dynamic on the pins. Theseparts of our game will make for very exciting vol-leyball. We possess great talent and a ton of upsidein our setter and middle position. The key to thisaspect of the team will be to develop quicklythrough the preseason competition.”

In all, this year's squad returns only 40% of lastseason's production in both kills and assists and36% of the team's blocks. Fortunately, 70% of thedigs manufactured in '09 come back withthe four seniors and sophomore Nile Te'oowning five of the six 100-plus dig tal-lies last year.

Joining the Rebel roster for 2010 is asophomore transfer named KendraGlendenning. The freshmen are: SekolaFalemaka, Mariana Furquim, MakenzieMoea'I, Stephanie Thelen, CandiceThomas, Madeline Westman, LayneWilson and Katlin Winters.

OUTSIDE HITTERSOUTSIDE HITTERSThe 2010 Rebels will have their mostdepth at the net. The team will have eightto 10 options depending on the lineup.

Outside: Keeler, Nehf, Falemaka,Furquim, Moea'i will line up as outsidehitters, while Alles and Thelen may see

some time attacking when not setting.

Keeler has played in a total of 183 sets and 63matches as a Rebel. She has tallied 339 kills, 202digs, 72 total blocks, 46 assists and 19 aces. Allison Keeley enters her seventh season at UNLV as the winningest headcoach in program history with an overall record of 98-76.

After six years on the job, Keeley has the UNLV volleyball program on the righttrack. She has won at least 15 or more matches in five of her six seasons andamassed back-to-back tallies of 20+ wins during the 2006 and ‘07 campaigns.

Keeley took a UNLV program that had five consecutive losing seasons prior toher arrival into the top 25. In those five years pre-Keeley, UNLV held a com-bined record of 52-88. In the six years since, the Rebels have won 98 matches.

She led UNLV to three straight semifinal appearances in the Mountain WestConference Tournament before achieving what no other coach in the program’shistory had accomplished. In 2007, she surpassed the semifinal threshold andwon the 2007 MWC Championship earning an automatic berth into the NCAATournament, a first for UNLV.

Overall, she has produced one AVCA All-America Honorable Mention player(Lauren Miramontes), one AVCA West Region First Team member(Miramontes), one AVCA West Region Honorable Mention (CamilleCunningham), 13 all-conference honorees and two conference freshmen of theyear (Maria Aladjova and Cursty Jackson).

Hampered by injuries to key players the Rebels had a rough go at it in 2009.The squad went 8-19 and finished seventh in the MWC. Jackson earned all-con-ference honors and pushed the program’s streak to seven straight years of aRebel making the list.

In 2008, Keeley led the team to a 16-14 overall mark, while tying for fourth inthe Mountain West Conference with a 9-7 record. The year included a home winover then-#13 Colorado State and sweeping the regular-season contests withBYU for the first time in program history. The season ended with Cunninghambeing named to the AVCA All-West Region squad, as well as earning all-con-ference honors. Melody Nua and Jackson rounded out the All-MWC recipients.

The Rebels had a magical run in 2007, which saw them notch a program-best24 victories to only six defeats. The squad was recognized in the national rank-ings for the first time in program history with UNLV being part of 13 consecu-tive polls. The Rebels achieved back-to-back weeks as the 25th-ranked team inthe AVCA Top 25 Poll and spent 11 more weeks in the “receiving votes” cate-gory.

Statistically speaking, the 2007 squad ranked highly in the NCAA’s finalcategories. The team was 10th in digs-per-game, 12th in assists-per-gameand 13th in kills-per-game.

Major success brings with it recognition and the awards flowed UNLV’sway in ‘07. Not only was she was named the 2007 MWC Co-Head Coachof the Year for her team’s efforts and was later recognized as the AVCA’sWest Region Coach of the Year, but she also coached UNLV’s first All-America (Miramontes) and four all-conference selections.

In 2006, the Rebels won 20 matches for only the third time in school his-tory. The 20 victories included a six-match winning streak that led theRebels to an 8-2 mark to open up the season. One of the highlights of thecampaign was UNLV earning its first victory in program history at homeover Colorado State on Nov. 12. In MWC action, the squad finished

fourth for the third straight year with a 10-6 record.

In 2005, Keeley’s squad closed out the season with a 15-15 overall record, while finishing 10-6 in the MWC (fourth place), but came within one point ofplaying in the program’s first-ever MWC Championship.

In 2004, Keeley revitalized a program that between 1978 and 2003 had onlyfour winning seasons in 14 years of play (no team was fielded from 1981-83and 1986-95). The squad finished the ‘04 season with a 15-12 record and theprogram’s highest finish in MWC play (fourth) with an 8-6 mark.

Besides coaching success on the court, her players have also excelled in theclassroom. Thus far, Keeley has produced 45 Academic All-Mountain WestConference selections, which included tying the program-high of 10 honoreesin 2005 and ‘08. Jessica Walters has been named UNLV’s Most OutstandingFemale Athlete for two academic years and earned ESPN The Magazine All-District First Team honors, while fellow teammate Erin Greenwood was tabbedto the all-district third team.

Prior to coming to UNLV, Keeley was the head coach at Villanova Universityfrom 2001-03. She helped rejuvenate the Wildcat program and left Philadelphiawith a 39-48 overall record. She helped move the Wildcats from the bottom ofthe Big East into a position of playing in the semifinals of the conference tour-nament. Her finest season in Philadelphia came in 2002 when the Wildcats went18-16 and improved 11 matches over the previous year’s record.

Before her three years at Villanova, she was the head coach for three years atSouthern Arkansas University, a NCAA Division II school. In her first year atSAU, the team finished third in the Gulf South Conference. From 1996-98, shewas the head coach at Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and herteams qualified for postseason play twice in three years.

She began her coaching career at Sparks High School in Sparks, Nev.

Keeley graduated in 1990 from Carleton College with an undergraduate degree.in political science while also earning all-conference honors as a setter on thevolleyball team. She earned her master’s degree in education from AzusaPacific in 1998.

MOUNTMOUNTAIN WESAIN WEST CT CONFERENCEONFERENCE4444BIRTH OF A CBIRTH OF A CONFERENCEONFERENCEThe Mountain West Conference was conceived on May 26, 1998, when thepresidents of eight institutions -- Air Force, Brigham Young, Colorado State,New Mexico, San Diego State, UNLV, Utah and Wyoming -- decided to forma new NCAA FBS intercollegiate athletic conference. The split from the for-mer 16-team WAC re-established continuity and stability among the mem-bership within the new league and signaled the continuation of its tradition-rich, long-standing athletic rivalries. Five of the MWC’s eight members havebeen conference rivals since the 1960s (BYU, Utah, New Mexico, Wyomingand Colorado State), while San Diego State (1978) and Air Force (1980) werelongtime members as well. UNLV and TCU entered the fold in 1996 and theRebels continued as one of the original eight institutions that formed theMWC in 1999. TCU rejoined the group with its first year of competition inthe Mountain West in 2005-06. On June 17, 2001, Commissioner CraigThompson announced the addition of Boise State University to the MWC,effective July 1, 2011.

From its inception in 1999, the Mountain West Conference has been commit-ted to excellence in intercollegiate athletics, while promoting the academicmissions of its member institutions. The Colorado Springs-based league isnoted for its geographic diversity. Some of the most beautiful terrain andlandscapes in the nation can be found within the Mountain West boundaries, including the majestic Rocky Mountain range, which borders four MWCschools (Utah, BYU, Air Force and Colorado State). The high plains ofWyoming (elevation 7,220 feet - the highest Division I campus in the nation)contrast with the desert city of Las Vegas (the fastest growing metropolitanarea in the West) and the Pacific locale of San Diego State. The southwesternflavor of New Mexico complements the western heritage and culture of FortWorth, Texas, home of TCU.

MWC members have participated in 41 bowl games in 11 years, with eight ofthe nine schools earning at least one bid. The MWC has earned 50 postseasonbids in men’s basketball, including 26 NCAA Tournament appearances andtwo NIT Final Four berths; while women’s basketball has tallied 51 postsea-son bids, inluding 29 NCAA bids, five Sweet 16 appearances and one EliteEight berth since 2000. The MWC has sent at least 30 teams to NCAA post-season events each year while capturing three team and 24 individual cham-pionships in 11 years.

UNLUNLV ON TELEVISIONV ON TELEVISIONThe Mountain West Conference television pack-age reaches a national audience through a com-bination of telecasts on The MountainWestSports Network (The Mtn.), CBS College SportsNetwork (formerly CSTV) and VERSUS. TheMtn. has been available to cable subscribers inthe MWC footprint since it first aired in 2006-07and is now available nationally on DIRECTV(channel 616).

On Aug. 26, 2004, College Sports Television(CSTV) and the MWC announced a visionary partnership that revolutionizedthe college sports landscape. The landmark agreement was the first NCAADivision I football and men’s basketball conference-wide deal for CSTV andprovided the network exclusive rights to all conference events, includingcable and satellite television coverage, national over-the-air and satelliteradio, video-on-demand and online broadcast rights.

A succession of events since the fall of 2004 hasimproved the television model, includingCSTV’s merger with Comcast SportsNet to cre-ate The Mtn. - MountainWest Sports Networkand CBS Corporation’s purchase of CSTV. In2008, CBS incorporated CSTV’s cable, broad-cast and online activities into its world-famousbrand.

The Mtn. is co-owned by CBS C and ComcastSportsNet. The relationship with Comcast SportsNet also delivered anothernational broadcast partner in VERSUS. The MWC was the first exclusive col-lege programming provider for the Comcast-owned entity, with football andboth men’s and women’s basketball games. The CBS C/MWC partnership hasguaranteed greater levels of television exposurefor all league sports and has resoundingly metthe fundamental goals of more exposure andpreferred start times and dates.

In the summer of 2006, the centerpiece of thishistoric relationship was realized with thelaunch of The Mtn. - the first sports networkdedicated to serving a single collegiate athleticconference. The Mtn. provides sports fans blan-ket coverage of MWC athletics across multiplesports, including football, men’s and women’s basketball, and men’s andwomen’s Olympic sports. along with live games, fans get a comprehensivearray of news, features and analysis about their favorite MWC teams andplayers. In 2009-10, more than 250 MWC events were shown live on TheMtn., CBS C and VERSUS. CBS C is currently available in over 38 millionhomes, while VERSUS is in more than 79 million households.

Craig Thompson was the Mountain West Conference’s first employee whenhe was named commissioner on Oct. 15, 1998. Ever since, Thompson hasnavigated the newest NCAA Division I conference through the ever-changinglandscape of intercollegiate athletics. As the league enters its 12th season ofcompetition in 2010-11, Thompson continues to create and improve theopportunities for MWC institutions and student-athletes to be successful bothacademically and athletically.

Since the Mountain West Conference opened its doors on January 4, 1999,Thompson has been committed to excellence in intercollegiate athletics, whilepromoting the academic missions of its member institutions. Progressive in itsapproach, the MWC has flourished under the guidance of CommissionerThompson and continutes to cultivate opportunities for student-athletes tocompete at the highest level, while fostering academic achievement andsportsmanship. He has been instrumental in negotiating nearly $230 million intelevision revenue and has been an innovator in the postseason bowl structureas MWC teams have participated in five inaugural bowl games.

His leadership and vision have helped the conference enhance its televisionrevenue and exposure through revolutionary agreements with CBS CollegeSports Network and Comcast to become the first collegiate athletic confer-ence to launch a dedicated sports channel featuring exclusive programmingaround its nine athletic programs.

Thompson has been instrumental in strengthening the position of the MWC inits current Bowl Championship Series (BCS) structure. In 2006, he spear-headed an effort that resulted in better access for the MWC and more thandoubled the annual BCS revenue on an annual basis for non-automatic-quali-fying conferences. The MWC has been steadfast in its efforts to find a way tomake the BCS system fair to all universities.

Through its first 11 years of competition, the MWC has participated in 41bowl games. For the third time in six years, the MWC posted the best win per-centage among the 11 FBS conferences in 2009-10. The Mountain Westclaimed the 2009-10 Bowl Challenge Cup after sending five teams into post-season action and finishing with a 4-1 (.800) mark.

Prior to his current role, Thompson served as the commissioner of the SunBelt Conference for nearly eight years and as the only commissioner of theAmerican South Conference prior to the merger of the two leagues in 1991.Thompson graduated from the University of Minnesota with an undergradu-ate degree in journalism. He and his wife, Carla, have a son (Ted) and adaughter (Emma).

Combining the excitement of an urban location with the charm of a tradit ional campus, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas offers students a full educational and social expe- rience.

Just decades old, UNLV has maintained a healthy rate of growth in enrollment, programs and scholastic excellence as part of the eight-component Nevada System of Higher Education. Located in the heart of one of the world’s most vibrant and dynamic cities, UNLV has matured along with the Las Vegas area. With enrollment more than doubling the last decade, the tremendous growth has meant a flurry of construction resulting in a campus setting boasting academic and athletic facilities second to none. Steadily becoming a traditional residential university, UNLV provides on-campus housing for more than 2,000 students. A variety of student clubs and organizations along with 26 Greek organizations supplement the social development of students. From within its 15 schools and colleges, including the new William S. Boyd School of Law, UNLV is also becoming a leading research institution of the West. The school’s scientific, social science, and business programs attract millions of dollars in research grants annually to fund projects in desert biology, nuclear waste transportation, laser physics, public opinion surveys and many others. In addition to traditional student programs, UNLV serves diverse local, national and international communities through its Educational Outreach Division, offering Summer Term, Continuing Education and Distance Education programs enrolling more than 53,000 students annually. With its Performing Arts Center, the campus is the cultural hub of Southern Nevada. World-class orchestras and soloists, dance and theater arts combine to provide a broad selection of concerts and stage productions. The Barrick Lecture Series and several campus organizations bring noted speakers to the University, and local and visiting artists show their works in the Donna Beam Fine Art Gallery. UNLV has excellent athletic facilities as well, many open for student and public use. Opened in 1957 as the southern regional division of the University of Nevada with a total of 28 students, UNLV now is home to more than 29,000 students coming from every county in Nevada, all 50 U.S. states and 88 countries. Much of UNLV’s tremendous expansion is the result of support from the Nevada Legislature and

the state’s taxpayers. Private donors have played an important role as well. These gifts support new facilities and programs and, most important, provide the scholarship incentives that bring Nevada’s best and brightest student scholars to campus. UNLV operates an on-campus Center for Business and Economic Research, Center for Economic Education, Harry Reid Center for Environmental Studies (in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency), Desert Biology Research Center, Center for Survey Research, Nuclear Waste Transportation Research Center and other research and public-service centers. Offering 108 undergraduate programs and 138 graduate tracts, UNLV graduated a class of more than 5,000 last year. The University operates on a semester system and is a member of the American Association of State Colleges and Uni-versities, the Council of Graduate Schools, the American Council of Education and the West-ern College Association. All of the University’s academic programs are fully accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges, and many programs have received further accreditation from inde-pendent national accreditation bodies.

ATHLETICS DIRECTOR

Bringing with him a wealth of experience and the reputation as one of the nation’s top ad-ministrators, Jim Livengood was introduced

as UNLV’s 11th full-time Director of Athletics on Dec. 17, 2009. Livengood wasted no time getting to work, as less than two weeks later he hired Bobby Hauck as the 10th head coach in Rebel football history. Just three months after that it was announced that a new, state-of-the-art basketball practice fa-cility, the Mendenhall Center, would be built, with construction starting later in the year. Livengood came to UNLV following a suc-cessful tenure of more than 15 years at the Uni-versity of Arizona where he oversaw an athletics program that annually competed for champion-ships not only in the Pac-10 Conference but also at a national level, maintained a high academic standard for its student-athletes and continually operated its $43 million budget in the black. His fiscal leadership helped Arizona remain one of the lone black-ink athletics programs among a small handful of institutions that rely ex-clusively on generated funds and do not receive state-appropriated monies. During his time in Tucson, he served as the Pacific-10 Conference president, chair of the Pac-10 Athletic Directors Revenue Sharing Committee and a member of the conference's Bowl Committee and Basketball Tournament Subcommittee. He also was a mem-ber of the Rose Bowl Management Committee, the NCAA Fellows program, NACDA President, and chair of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee, on which he served five years. His work at Arizona and its extension on the national level earned him an Athletic Director of the Year Award from the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics in 2006 for Divi-sion I-A.

Livengood initiated Campaign Arizona, which raised more than $130 million for athletic facility improvements and endowments while the Wild-cats maintained a top-25 competitive record in the NACDA Directors' Cup (formerly Sears Cup), including high rankings of sixth in 1993-94, fourth in 1994-95, seventh in 1995-96, sixth in both 1996-97 and 1997-98 and ninth in 2001-02. That record reflects success throughout Ari-zona's broad-based program, highlighted by par-ticipation in the 1994 and 2001 NCAA Men's Final Four and champions of the 1997 NCAA Men's National Basketball Tournament. Arizona also won the 1994, 1996, 1997, 2001, 2006 and 2007 NCAA Women's Softball College World Series titles, the 1996 and 2000 NCAA Women's Golf titles and the 2008 men's and women's NCAA Swimming Cham-pionships. UA's student-athlete graduation rate contin-ued to be historically higher than that of the gen-eral student body rate during his tenure at UA. Nearly 100 student-athletes earned conference or regional all-academic honors, and 20 percent of UA student-athletes attained honors-level cu-mulative grade point averages. Livengood is a member of the NCAA Fellows Program to mentor new athletic directors, has served as a member of the NCAA Peer Review Team from 1994-99, the NCAA Gender Equity Task Force, and the Women's Committee on Ath-letics. He has been a member of the NACDA Pre-season Football Games Committee since 2000 and was a member of the NACDA Strategic Plan-ning Committee from 1999-2001. He served as NACDA president in 1998-1999, and in 1999 was named Division I-A Athletic Director of the Year. He is also a member of the Division 1-A Athletic Directors Association, having served as president of that association in 1998. Livengood spent six years as the Athletics Director at Washing-ton State University from 1988-93 where he developed what is still widely regarded as a model gender-equity program. In addi-tion he laid the groundwork for a student-athlete wellness center that is regarded as one of the finest in the nation. Livengood began his administrative career in 1980 as the Associate Director for Development and Public Rela-tions at Washington State before becoming the Athletics Director at

Southern Illinois, a position he held until returning to Washington State. Born March 28, 1945, in Walla Walla, Wash., he received his bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in 1968 and completed his fifth-year education requirement for teaching certifica-tion at Central Washington University in 1972. He taught and served as an assistant football coach and track coach at Moses Lake High School in Washington in 1968-69, and as head football and basketball coach and counselor at Ephrata High School in Washington from 1972-80 before mov-ing into athletics administration. Jim and his wife, Linda, have two grown chil-dren, Michelle, a lawyer in Tucson, and Jeremy, who resides in Phoenix. Both children are University of Arizona graduates. Michelle earned her law degree in May 2000 and Jeremy graduated in December 1999. The Livengoods are the proud grandparents of twin daughters, Emma and Isabella, born to Mi-chelle and husband, Jack Murphy, in March 2009.

SEVEN INDIVIDUALS, TWO TEAMS ELECTED TO UNLV HALL OF FAME Six different Rebel sports will be represented during ceremonies, as the seven-person, two-team class will be inducted into the UNLV Athletics Hall of Fame as the Class of 2010 on Oct. 1. Five former Rebel standout players, one head coach and a distinguished contributor will join two record-setting teams in being inducted. Born in 1987, UNLV’s Athletics Hall of Fame will now grow to 105 members strong. Under the hall’s bylaws, former student-athletes must have completed their eligibility at least 10 years earlier to be selected. Coaches and administrators must have stopped working at the University five years previous. All classes now enter on a biennial basis. JEREMY ANDERSON (1996-2000) was prolific performer on the golf course and in the classroom and is the only athlete in school history to be a three-time All-American and three-time academic All-American. A member of head coach Dwaine Knight’s 1998 National Championship squad, Anderson had the unusual honor of being voted player of the year in two different conferences (1999 Western Athletic and 2000 Mountain West). A first team All-American in 1999 and 2000, he was also a second team choice in 1998 as he posted three finishes in the top 30 at NCAA Championships. DANIEL BARBER (1989-92) is one of only two All-Americans in Rebel soccer history, as he was a Freshman All-American in 1989 and then a third team selection two seasons later. UNLV’s all-time assists leader with 26, Barber was first team all-conference and all-region in 1991 and first team all-league again in ‘92. JULIE CRANDALL (1995-98) is regarded as the best catcher in UNLV’s storied softball history and is one of five Rebels to be a multiple-season All-American as she was voted third team in both 1995 and ‘98. A three-time first team all-conference honoree, Crandall started behind the plate as a freshman for the best team in school history, helping the 1995 Rebels to a tie for third place at the Women’s College World Series. NICK GARRITANO (1991-94) was arguably the nation’s top place-kicker as a senior and he left as UNLV’s second-leading scorer in history with 240 points (four points behind running back Mike Thomas). Leading the Rebels in scoring three of his four seasons, Garritano was a 1994 semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award after leading all of college football in 50-yard field goals made, nailing five of seven attempts from 50-59 yards. RYAN LUDWICK (1997-99) played three seasons at UNLV before becoming the fourth-highest draft pick in program history (60th overall in 1999). The Durango High School product finished his college career ranked

ninth in batting average (.363) and still ranks fourth at the school with 43 homeruns. The 1997 First Team Freshman All-American was a two-time preseason All-American and postseason all-conference honoree. The 1994 UNLV FOOTBALL TEAM is one of two in school history to win a conference championship and head coach Jeff Horton’s squad did it in style with a stunning 32-27 upset of arch-rival Nevada, Reno at Sam Boyd Stadium. The Rebels, who at 5-1 shared the league title with UNR and Louisiana-Lafayette, earned the Big West’s lone postseason bid via tie-breaker and went on to rout Central Michigan 52-24 in Las Vegas Bowl III to finish with an overall record of 7-5 and post the program’s most wins in 10 years. The 1985 UNLV MEN’S SOCCER TEAM was the winningest group in program history, seting multiple school records, including most wins and fewest losses as head coach Barry Barto’s squad finished 18-2-2. The Rebels, who also reeled off a record 18-game unbeaten streak during the campaign, finished the season ranked fourth in the nation by Soccer America after rising as high as second that fall. HEAD COACH DR. LARRY EASLEY (Deceased) (1992-03) coached the UNLV men’s tennis team longer than anyone in history, was named conference coach of the year three times and was also twice named Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Coach of the Year in 1998 and 2001. His all-time record of 141-120 included leading UNLV to three Big West Conference championships. Easley produced four of UNLV’s five all-time men’s All-Americans, including two individual national champions when Luke Smith won the NCAA singles championship and then teamed with Tim Blenkiron to capture the NCAA doubles title in 1997. DISTINGUISHED CONTRIBUTOR BOB MENDENHALL is the owner and chief executive officer of the Las Vegas Paving Corporation. A longtime supporter of the UNLV program, Mendenhall most recently became a major part of a group that is building and donating a new multi-million dollar practice facility for the Runnin’ Rebels.
