description

After Convocation each year a series of regional reports are produced which are customized to regions across northern BC. These reports celebrate local grads, award winners, research activities, and other stories relevant to the area. Reports designed for communities with or close to UNBC's regional campuses also feature listings of upcoming local courses.

UNBC Highlights 2010National ChampionsThe UNBC men's basketball team scored UNBC's first national championship this year after going 17-1 during the season and capturing the provincial title as well. UNBC produced BC players of the year for both men's and women's basketball, a pair of academic all-Canadians, a coach of the year award, and the country's top individual honour – All-Canadian Across All Sports – won by Inderbir Singh Gill.

A Shrinking FootprintUNBC is actively implementing a $15 million bioenergy program at the Prince George campus that could give the core campus the smallest carbon footprint of any Canadian university by this time next year. The projects – a biomass gasification system and a wood pellet system – will reduce UNBC's dependence on fossil fuels by 85% and serve as a platform for applied research and education.

New ChancellorA native of Prince Rupert who went on to establish one of Canada's most successful technology companies is UNBC's fifth Chancellor. John MacDonald co-founded MacDonald Dettwiler and led the company until his retirement in the late 1990s. He is now the CEO of a BC-

based solar company and is a champion of BC's potential leadership in renewable energy. The Chancellor is the ceremonial head of the University and officially grants degrees at Convocation.

This year’s Master of Education cohort from Grande Prairie convocation.
