Northwestern Coach Pat FitzgeraldNo matter what the setting, 2008 College Football Hall o Fame inducteePat Fitzgerald invariably eels comortable using his passion, unwaveringset o core values and outward enthusiasm to inspire and improve thosearound him.

Tat passion was also a primary actor in Fitzgeralds Hall-o-Fameplaying career at Northwestern, when he was a two-time Bronko Nagur-ski and Chuck Bednarik Award winner and team leader o NUs back-to-back Big en title-winning teams in the mid-90s. Te Cats posted atwo-year Big en record o 15-1 and made appearances in the 1995 RoseBowl and 1996 Citrus Bowl with Fitzgerald serving as the centerpiece o adeense that ranked among the nations best.

Although Fitzgeralds passion and commitment to excellence may bedi cult to quantiy, his positive impact in Northwesterns on-eld peror-mance since he took the reins as head coach in 2006 is not.

Te past two-plus years (2008-present), Fitzgerald has guided theWildcats to 23 wins. NU has earned bowl eligibility a ourth straightseason and ve times in the last six years. For his 2008 eorts when heguided the Cats to nine victories, Fitzgerald was named the Big enCoach o the Year by the ouchdown Club o Columbus, and a seminal-ist or the George Munger Coach o the Year Award and a nalist or theLiberty Mutual Coach o the Year Award.

On Sept. 6, 2010, the Big en Network announced that Fitzgerald is theNo. 41 Big en Icon in its countdown o the top 50 student-athletes. Big enIcons, presented by Discover, are selected solelyon their collegiate playing careers.

An assistant ootball coach or the Wildcats rom 2001 through thesummer o 2006, Fitzgerald was named Northwesterns 29th head coachon July 7, 2006, succeeding Randy Walker, who died suddenly on June

29, 2006. Eight games into the 2010 season, Fitzgerald now owns a 33-26coaching record. He is the rst NU coach to stand seven games over the .500mark since Bob Voigts was 23-16 in 1951.

Fitzgerald and his wie, Stacy, have three boys: Jack (5), Ryan (4) andBrendan (20 months). (For Fitzgeralds complete bio, reer to pages 76-79in the NU yearbook.)

Wideout Jeremy Ebert turned in, perhaps, the Wildcats biggest playo the year at Minnesota when he outmaneuvered a Gopher deenderor a jump-ball pass in the end zone that resulted in a D. He madea brilliant catch and that play ignited NUs comeback. Ebert ollowedup that eort (seven catches or 105 yards, 1D) with a career-best11 receptions or 124 yards against Purdue. He added two more Dgrabs (11 and 30 yards) at Indiana, and then notched his third 100-yard game o the season at Penn State. Ebert leads NU in receptions

(48), receiving yards (789), yards per reception average (16.4, allplayers with 10 or more catches) and D receptions (7). Ebert leadsall Big en players in receiving yards per game. Joining Ebert in the spectacular catch club was superbackDrakeDunsmore, who made a dazzling one-handed grab in the back o theend zone at Penn State on Nov. 6. Tat was Dunsmores ourth Dcatch o the season and the seventh o his career. Dunsmore, who isNUs second-leading receiver with 28 catches, is now 62 yards shy o1,000 career receiving yards.
