Welcome to the 1st Annual Hooters Women’s Collegiate Team

Championship Presented by the National Golf Coaches Association.

On behalf of the NGCA, we are thrilled to be at Achasta, By Reynolds,

a fabulous Jack Nicklaus design, for this inaugural event pitting two-

person teams from the same university against each other in the most

unique Championship of the summer. More than 50 teams are with us

this week from Division I, II, III, and NAIA institutions.

With a different format each day, players will be challenged playing

Alternate Shot (Day One), Best Ball (Day Two) and Combined Score

(Day Three).

Thank you to Hooters of America, our title sponsor, for their gracious

support of the NGCA for the past eight years. First, with the Hooters

Collegiate Match Play Championship and now with the Team

Championship. Hooters, headquartered in neighboring Atlanta, has

been a great friend to women’s collegiate golf.

And to Achasta, its members and residents, we appreciate your

commitment to this event and everything you have done to put on a

first class tournament. We hope to reciprocate with great play and

an enjoyable atmosphere for everyone.

WELCOME TOTHE ACHASTA,BY REYNOLDS

Achasta, a Jack Nicklaus Signature golf

course, is only a short drive from down-

town Atlanta. The 18 hole design mean-

ders along the banks of the Chestatee

River in Dahlonega and has been the host

of many qualifiers and championships

throughout the years. The community sur-

rounding the golf course has caught the

“golfing bug” as the membership has cre-

ated many exciting traditions of watching

great golf at Achasta.

The challenging yet receptive layout navi-

gates back and forth across the trout filled

Chestatee River while providing the

Appalachian Mountains as a scenic back-

drop. Nicklaus took advantage of the river

valley to design a somewhat flat layout,

which encourages walking and allows for

playing golf in its purest form.

Page 5: 2010 Hooters NGCA Team Championship Program

Par 4 396 yardsThe 1st hole is a chal-

lenging 396-yard par 4. A wellpositioned fairway bunker on theright side of the hole draws attentionfrom the tee box. Long hitters cancarry the bunker with a short iron onto a large green. Par is a good scoreto start your round.

Par 4 332 yardsThe 2nd hole is a mod-

est 332-yard par 4. Playersmust put this ball in play from thetee. A tee shot lost to the right canfind the hazard that stretches thelength of the right side of the hole. Also, a tee shot too far left can find afairway bunker or tall native grass. Ashort wedge will lead to the roundsfirst birdie. You must control yourspin to get it close on the undula-tions.

Par 3 162 yardsThe 3rd hole is a de-

manding 162-yard par 3. Thegreen is guarded by water short andhas severe slopes left and long. Thisgreen must be respected for itsspeed. A good tee shot in the centerof the green can still result in athree-putt bogey. A good par keepsthe momentum going in your roundon this hole.

Par 5 475 yardsThe 4th hole is a reach-

able 475-yard par 5. A long teeshot will allow for a go at the greenin 2. The Chestatee River comes intoplay for the first time in the round,as it has to be carried to reach thegreen.

Par 3 147 yardsThe 5th hole is a scenic

147-yard par 3 that looks up theriver from the tee box. This hole ison an island in the Chestatee River.During the gold rush days, the riverwas dredged for gold and reroutedfor around 300 yards.

Par 5 571 yardsThe 6th hole is a

straightaway 571-yard par 5.The tee box sits in front of theChestatee River, as the golfer againhas to carry the river to the fairway.A large fairway bunker on the rightside of the hole is in the landing areafor the tee shot. Two good shots willlead to a short iron shot for an undu-lating green. Three putts can cause abogey due to the long rolling green.

Par 4 358 yardsThe 7th hole is a tough

358-yard par 4. The ChestateeRiver runs the length of the rightside of this fairway while the largestbunker on the course comes intoplay on the left side beginning 200yards from the green. The approachshot will hold the green with asmuch loft as possible due to itsslope away from the fairway. This isa large green and requires good dis-tance control on the longer putts.

Par 4 356 yardsThe 8th hole is an unas-

suming 356-yard par 4. Thishole is short but must be played ac-curately as yet again Nicklaus posi-tioned a fairway bunker perfect forthe tee shot missed to the right. Thetee shot missed to the left howevercan find the pond that is located onthe left side. A good tee shot willallow for a short wedge to the green. Two giant walnut trees guard the ap-proach shot from the right side ofthe fairway.

Par 4 368 yardsThe 9th hole is a solid

368-yard par 4. The ChestateeRiver flows down the left side of thishole and demands a good tee shotto ensure a mid iron to the green. Two fairway bunkers through thefairway are a good aiming point, butbe careful of hitting it too far intothe bunkers. Again the golfer has tocross the Chestatee River to reachthe green. All golfers cross the riveron one of five beautiful bridges ontheir way to the green. Par is a goodscore to make the turn to the backnine.

Par 4 365 yardsThe 10th hole is one of

the most difficult driving holeson the golf course. The ChestateeRiver runs along the entire left sideof the hole and is quick to ruin anychance for birdie. On the right side isa large pond that makes it very diffi-cult to get comfortable with this de-manding tee shot. The green isguarded by a very large bunker onthe right side of the green so keepyour approach shot a little left of thepin.

Par 3 190 yardsThe 11th hole is the

longest of the four par threes atAchasta. Playing 190 yards, there isvery little room for error to the leftas the river comes into play on anytee shot missed to the left. The leftside of the green is guarded by abunker the keeps many waywardshots out of the river.

Par 4 338 yardsThe 12th hole is the most

severe dogleg at Achasta. TheChestatee River runs along the leftside of the fairway but be aware ofthe large fairway bunker that grabsany tee shot played to far to theright. The green is guarded by a largegreenside bunker that is very deepand difficult to save par from. Theputting green is fairly flat so mostputts on this green are a green light.

Par 4 300 yardsThe 13th hole starts the

birdie run at Achasta. Thisreachable par 4 is one of the mostexciting risk / reward holes in NorthGeorgia. Playing 285 yards to thecenter of the green, this hole isguarded by the largest greensidebunker on the course. Be careful notto go to far to the right of the greenas the Chestatee River runs alongthe entire right side of the puttinggreen. The putting surface is thebest defense for this modest par 4.Be aware of a large sloping greenthat makes putting very difficult.

Par 5 507 yardsThe 14th hole continues

the run of possible birdies onthe back nine. This is straightest andeasiest tee shot on the back nine butbe aware of the large bunkers onboth the left and right side of theputting green. This putting surfacelooks very tame from the fairway butnote the large two-tiered slope thatmakes it difficult to get to most pins.

Par 5 430 yardsThe 15th hole provides

for a lot of excitement. Thishole plays much longer than the 430yards that the scorecard says. Thefairway is guarded by a large bunkeron the right side and the ChestateeRiver runs along the left side of thefairway. Once you have successfullyconquered the tee shot you nowhave a decision to make. The longerhitters can go for this green in twobut if you have to lay it’s decisiontime. The Chestatee River cutsacross the lay up zone, forcing along high three wood or a short ironlay up short of the river. If you haveto lay up short of the river you face ademanding 185 yards approach shotto a fairly narrow and sloping green. Those who come up short will findthemselves in a bunker.

Par 4 327 yardsThe 16th hole is a classic

par 4. There are two largebunkers on each side of the fairwaythat makes an accurate tee shot amust. The green is raised slightly somake sure you add one more club asthis green is heavily guarded bygreenside bunkers both short andleft of the green.

Par 3 131 yardsThe 17th hole is a mod-

est par three, playing as theshortest of the four par 3’s atAchasta. The green is slightly down-hill but is protected by two bunkers, one on the left and one short rightthat are sure to catch any misfiredshots at the green. The putting sur-face has a large slope that dissectsthe green, making any long putts atough task to conquer.

Par 4 402 yardsThe 18th hole is one of

the best finishing holes around. This long par 4 typically plays intothe wind and requires a long and ac-curate tee shot. Be aware of thelarge pond to the right that’s comesinto play on the tee shot as well asthe demanding second shot. Thissloping green can be very difficult toread and any misfired chip shotcould easily find the pond the laysright of the edge of the putting sur-face.
