Volume 20, No. 12 December 201 Bane-Clene Corp., 2010
By Bill Bane
A thoughtful white paper by Debbie Lema
of Racine Industries demonstrates that CRIs
testing program is flawed and can be made
to arrive at any conclusion the tester wishes.
The survey CRI used to justify the new SOA
program claims that carpet cleaners are re-
sponsible for most carpet complaints. That
simply is not true!
Ive monitored complaint sites on the internet
since 1995 for carpet related complaints. The
results in the headline above are the number
I reviewed and cataloged in one year.
Installation leads with peaking seams and
rippling caused by not using a power stretcher.
Faulty pattern matches, dye defects and side
match issues are high on the list. In retail-
ing, defective carpet, late deliveries, broken
promises and product substitution are insecond place. Some retailers have even taken
deposits while in bankruptcy and didnt deliver
the carpet.
Carpet cleaning complaints are a distant
third and are insignificant by comparison.
Most cleaning related complaints were from
consumers trying to clean their own carpets.
The main gripes were about watered down
chemical products and cheap, poorly main-
tained rental equipment. Building managers
(DIY variety) also complained.
Complaints about professional cleaners werenearly all about bait and switch advertisers,
failure to return phone calls and rude techni-
cians. Consumer complaints about cleaning
equipment, chemicals, brands or methods
used by professionals are non-existent.
Its time for CRI to stop extorting money
from professional cleaners and their suppliers
through the auspices of their bogus and flawed
SOA testing program.
Score: Installation-314, Sales-253, Cleaning-131
Recession? This old story about advertising which
originated after WWII was first printed in
the Cleaning Digest magazine in 1974, then
reprinted in 1980 and 1991. It seems appropri-
ate to reprint it once again!
A man lived by the side of a road and sold
hot dogs for a living. He was hard of hearing
so he had no radio. He had trouble with his
eyes so he didnt read newspapers. He put signs
up on the highway telling about his hot dogs
and he stood by the side of the road shouting,
Buy a hot dog to cars passing by. People
stopped and bought his hot dogs. Business
got better so he increased his meat and bun
orders and he even bought a bigger stove. He
made enough money to send his only son off
to college. Then he got so busy that his son
had to quit college to help him.
But then something happened. His son said,
Father, have you heard? Theres a recession
going on right now and business is terrible. The
father said, Well son, youve been to college,
you read the papers. You ought to know!
So they took down their signs, quit standing
by the road to sell hot dogs and cut down their
meat and bun orders. And their hot dog sales
fell almost overnight. Youre right, son, the
father said. There is a recession and business
is terrible.
Wheres all that water?Engineering carpet cleaning systems t
recover 95%* of the water used in the extra
tion process results in virtually no residu
which is the culprit that causes rapid carp
resoiling.
Bane-Clenes positive moisture contro
means recovery can be monitored. The exa
amount of water used and the exact amoun
recovered can be measured and compare
(95% of 100 gallons @ .09 GPM = less thangallons remain in the carpet) and thats a typic
days production for one Bane-Clene unit.
Some equipment manufacturers claim 95
recovery who use 300** gallons at 3.0 to 7
GPM. Most have no way to monitor recovere
water since it is pumped onto the ground o
into a drain. Some hook up to a faucet fo
water supply so there is no way to measur
the water used.
* Actual, real world tests of Bane-Clen
equipment have recovered as much as aamazing 97.3%.
** 95% of 300 gallons @ 3.0 GPM = 15 ga
lons left in the carpet. Some actually run a
high as 7.0 GPM.
Everyone at Bane-Clene
wishes you a
Merry Christmas and
a very blessed and
prosperous New Year
in 2011.
