History The SURFLANT Scholarship Foundation was chartered in 1980 by the Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet Officers’ Wives Club to provide financial assistance to deserving college bound Navy dependent children of Surface personnel. Through increased donations over the years, the support of Fleet personnel, and successful fundraising events by various organizations, the Foundation grew from four $500 scholarships in 1981 to twenty-four scholarships totaling $52,000 in 2004. With its growth and success, the time had come to expand the Foundation to include the Naval Surface Forces, Pacific. On July 1, 2004, the SURFLANT Scholarships Foundation was re-chartered to encompass both commands and provide scholarship opportunities for all Naval Surface Force dependents. The Foundation is now called the Anchor Scholarship Foundation. Today Since its evolution to Anchor Scholarship Foundation in 2004, Scholarships totaling $304,700 have been awarded to 242 students. In June 2010, 42 scholarships were awarded to high school and college students from 15 states and 1 overseas location, all full-time students in 4-year accredited U.S. universities working toward their first undergraduate degree. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Scholarship Opportunities Administered through Anchor Scholarship Foundation *The Gene Robinson Memorial Scholarship for Spouses *The Rear Admiral James G.
