SCHOLASTIC ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

▪ The Orrville Board of Education, in compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, has established a minimum grade point average of 1.0 on a 4.0 grading scale to be eligible to participate in extra-curricular activities..

▪ Those students with a 1.0-1.5 grade point average must compete 1 hour of tutoring each week to remain eligible. Failure to complete tutoring will result in the student being ineligible the following week and will continue until the student has completed the required tutoring.

▪ The OHSAA has set standards for scholarship. Students must meet these standards in order to participate in a sport:

▪ Any student in grades 9-12 must pass a minimum of five 1 credit classes (or the equivalent) the immediately preceding grading period in order to be eligible for the following grading period.

▪ Any student in grades 7-8 must pass 5 courses in the preceding grading period in order to be eligible for the following grading period.

▪ Scholastic eligibility is determined every nine weeks.

▪ The eligibility or ineligibility of a student begins on the 5th day after the end of the previous nine weeks.

AGE/ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS The OHSAA establishes age requirements and

number of semesters of eligibility for all participants.

Any high school student who attains the age of 20 is ineligible for further participation no matter where the 20th birthday falls on the calendar.

Any high school student who has been enrolled in high school for more than 8 semesters loses eligibility.

Any middle school student who attains the age of 15 prior to August 1 of the beginning of the school year is ineligible for further participation.

Any middle school student who has been enrolled in middle school for more than 4 semesters in grades 7 and 8 loses eligibility.

TRAINING RULES POLICY -CODE OF CONDUCT

Participation in extracurricular activities, including athletics, is a privilege, not a right. The Board of Education authorizes the superintendent, principals, assistant principals, and other employees who supervise or coach an extracurricular activity to prohibit a student from some or all participation if the student violates the Code of Student Conduct, the Athletic Code of Conduct, or any similar code of conduct applicable to the extracurricular activity.

Student athletes shall not possess, use, sell, offer to sell, deliver, conceal, consume, or be under the influence of any drugs of abuse. This would include: alcohol, tobacco, tobacco-related products, tobacco paraphernalia, vaping paraphernalia, illegal drugs, controlled narcotics, intoxicants, steroids, performance enhancing drugs, or any substance that is directly or indirectly represented to be a drug of abuse (or look-alike). The penalty for tobacco violations will be the same as those with alcohol and/or others in the list above. These violations are cumulative.

TRAINING RULES POLICY -CODE OF CONDUCT

Student athletes should not attend or remain at activities where illegal consumption of alcohol or drugs is taking place. To do so puts the student athlete at risk for being identified as one who was involved in illegal activities.

Student athletes shall not engage in any acts of criminal activity or violations of civil law. The school will be notified of students on probation or diversion from the juvenile court. Being on the probation or diversion list will be a violation and dealt with according to the Procedures for Violations of the Athletic Code of Conduct in the next section.

A violation of the rules listed above will come from the report of a school administrator, teacher, coach, or advisor within the school system, or law enforcement officer. It is common practice for the Orrville Administration to work in conjunction with local law enforcement agencies to receive information pertaining to training rules violations.

The athletic code of conduct shall be in effect 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Violations that occur in grades 7 and 8 shall not carry over to high school; however the assessment/counseling component must be completed prior to any participation in a high school sport. Violations in Grades 9-12 shall be cumulative.

Procedures For Violation of the Athletic Code of Conduct

Student athletes may self-report one time for the first offense during grades 9-12. Those students who self-report immediately to a coach, athletic director or administrator will miss 10% of the current sport. If the student athlete is not currently participating, the student will miss 10% of the next sport played. Any subsequent violation will be treated as a 2nd offense.
