Dear Pirate Nation:

The East Carolina Alumni Association is about serving our alumni throughout the

Pirate Nation. When you boil it down to what makes our University and Alumni

Association special, the conversation always centers around the people.

From the energy of one of our newest members who has returned home to coach

our football team, to the special students we have on campus, to our alumni

impacting their communities worldwide, the story of ECU is the collective story of

our people.

For an organization to quantify success, it often has to point to numbers or

statistics in key areas to show impact and progress. Your Alumni Association

is no different. In this annual report, you will hear the stories of several Pirates

and you will see how we have continued to make progress in spite of tough

economic conditions. Recently, membership support has allowed us to expand

our scholarship program, increase our support of faculty stipends, and provide

more programs and communications to our 130,000 alumni throughout the Pirate

Nation. I want to thank the Pirate Nation for their continued support of the Alumni

Association—you have made a difference in the lives of fellow Pirates!

W. B. Yeats said, “Education is not the filling of a pail; but the lighting of a fire.”

Your support keeps the fire burning for future generations of Pirates and truly makes

East Carolina a gift from this generation to the next. Thank you for your support.

Go Pirates!

Engaging Our Alumni

One of the major goals of the Alumni Association is to offer a wide variety of events to reconnect alumni. Whether you have participated in the Pirate’s Bounty Scholarship Auction, tailgated before football games, or attended regional networking events, the Alumni Association is dedicated to providing enjoyable events that reconnect Pirates nationwide.
