The Rhode Island Rams enter the 2009-10 season under the direction of newly-appointed head coach Cathy Inglese. Inglese, who has had great success in her 22 years of coaching, owns a 393-253 (.608) career record

– including 20-or-more wins in eight of her 15 seasons at Boston College, where the Eagles posted a program-high national ranking of No. 14 (USA Today) at the end of the 2003-04 season. Inglese also

guided her Vermont teams to back-to-back undefeated seasons (29-0 in 1991-92 and 28-0 in 1992-93), marking the first time in NCAA history that a women's basketball program was perfect in the regular season over a two-year span.

Inglese looks to bring her winning ways to Kingston, rebuilding a Rhode Island program that returns seven student-athletes (two starters) from last year’s squad while adding five new faces to the mix.

Senior Lindsay Harris is back as the team’s top defensive player, having appeared in each of URI’s 31 games last year while recording a team-best 63 steals and 23 blocks. She

also dished out 77 assists to go along with 8.3 points and 6.0 rebounds in a team-leading 34.0 minutes per game.

Junior Megan Shoniker will continue to be an outside threat for the Rams, as she finished her sophomore season leading the team in points (322/10.4

ppg), assists (83) and three pointers (46).

Sophomores Lara Gaspar and Sherrie Session both saw significant time on the floor in as rookies in 2008-09, averaging roughly 14

minutes apiece. Gaspar reached double figures in scoring four times while Session finished the season second on the team

in three-pointers, thanks in part to a career-high 19 points - including six three-pointers - against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Sixteen of those points came in the second frame, as she connected on five-consecutive shots from beyond the arc

in the final five minutes of play.

Junior Caitlin Kearns and senior Andrea Buck - who were regular fixtures in the Rhode Island lineup towards the end of the 2008-09 campaign - will

vie for a more consistence presence on the floor this year, as will sophomore Chari Lehnertz.

Adding to the depth presented by Rhody’s returners is a class of newcomers looking to establish their respective

roles early on, while each player is working with a clean slate. Ajanae Boone, Ashley Rivera and Anisha

Wilson will compete for playing time in the back-court while Julia Barac and Annemarie Berner will look to make an impact as post players.
