Page 55: 2008 Spring Pre-Test Workshop High School AIMS and TerraNova.

55

Accommodations

Arizona offers two levels of accommodations to students participating in state assessments:

• Universal Accommodations• Standard Accommodations

Non-Standard Accommodations are no longer available.

NEW

Page 56: 2008 Spring Pre-Test Workshop High School AIMS and TerraNova.

56

Universal Accommodations

58

Universal Accommodations

A student with an injury, such as a broken hand or arm, that

would make it difficult to participate in state assessments

may receive the following standard accommodations as

needed:

• Write answers directly into test booklet.

• Record or dictate multiple choice responses to a scribe.

• Use assistive technology with spell check, grammar check, and predict ahead

functions turned off.

Student’s responses must be transferred to an answer document

Page 59: 2008 Spring Pre-Test Workshop High School AIMS and TerraNova.

59

Standard Accommodations

• Provisions made in how a student accesses and demonstrates learning.

• Does not substantially change the instructional level, the content, or the performance criteria

• Must have an IEP or 504.

• ELLs may be considered for standard accommodations (See slide 60).

Page 63: 2008 Spring Pre-Test Workshop High School AIMS and TerraNova.

63

Passing the AIMS with an IEP or 504 Plan

• Students with an IEP or a 504 Plan must pass the AIMS test in order to graduate unless the IEP or 504 specifically does not require the student to pass one or more content areas of AIMS HS.

• Not being required to pass the AIMS are team decisions and students must test even if they do not need to pass in order to graduate.

• Be very careful not to use a 504 Plan as a replacement for augmentation. If a student is “learning at a level appropriate for the student’s grade level in a specific content area”, he must pass the AIMS in order to graduate.

(State Statute 15-701.01)
