Area Director Responsibilities
• Spiritual Leadership– Ensure that all ministry in the area is designed and
carried out with a dependence on prayer that takes place out of the overflow of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
• Staff and Leaders– Recruit, screen, place, train, supervise, support,
encourage and evaluate volunteer leaders for both high school and WyldLife ministry.
– Ensure area leadership strategy is producing healthy people, healthy teams and healthy ministry.
– Supervise and evaluate supervisees in their leadership development, personal spiritual formation and their area ministry.
– Develop a training and supervisory structure appropriate for leaders involved in any specialized ministries.

– Be active in all three levels of contact work.
– Lead a model Young Life club or WyldLife club.
– Ensure the health of all existing area club ministries.
– Develop a plan for reaching every high school and middle school community in the area. Work with committee to develop and implement that plan.
– Lead or co-lead a model Campaigner ministry.
– Develop an area discipleship plan.
– Coordinate any all-area Young Life ministry events.

– Develop and implement a summer and school-season camping strategy that reflects the potential of seven years of involvement, from WyldLife through high school.
– Make use of Young Life camp facilities and programs as a tool for evangelism and discipleship.
– Serve on a Young Life summer camp assignment as directed.
– Provide quality summer staff, trained work crew and strategic adult guests for summer camps.
– Serve in leadership positions at school-season area and regional camps.

– Plan and implement a strategy for area ministry development and growth with an eye toward every kid and every high school and middle school.
– Consider resources for beginning ministries such as urban outreach, YoungLives and Capernaum.
– Maintain an office that operates professionally and efficiently.– Ensure that all Young Life policies and procedures for area management are
followed.– Plan and implement a strategy for area mailings and other avenues of
communication.
• Committee– Recruit, develop, encourage and sustain a local area committee as partners in
ministry.– Ensure that a trained volunteer, in the role of committee chairperson, leads the
committee.– Strive for committee diversity – of age, ethnicity, church attendance, etc., with
representation from every ministry or club in the area.– Work with the committee to develop good community relationships.– Ensure a taking donors seriously (TDS) leadership team is in place and functioning.

– Oversee development and management of the local area budget with committee leadership.
– Turn in budget with supporting field development tool one month prior to the start of the fiscal year.
– Ensure a TDS plan involving an area vision statement, field development tool, priority prospect list, strategy and financial master plan, is implemented and reviewed.
– Ensure that all Young Life financial policies and procedures are implemented.
– Ensure adequate financial support is raised to fund area expenses.– Continue to be attentive to personal fundraising to supplement area
fundraising as needed.
• Other– Perform other duties as assigned by the regional director.– Actively participate in a local church.
Committee Chair Purpose
The purpose of the committee chair is to work with the area director to ensure that the committee members share in the OWNERSHIP of the ministry with the local staff, volunteer leaders, local donors and regional director.
Basic Job Description Committee Chair
Act as a liaison and advocate between staff and committee
Communicate issues of accountability from the committee’s perspective
Build trust in the ministry Provide leadership in the
recruitment, selection, retention and retirement of committee members
Place committee members in positions to utilize their talents
Provide spiritual leadership, along with the area director, for the committee
Lead in developing a vision for Young Life’s potential in the community
Represent the committee to Young Life
Stand alongside the staff and bring the rest of the committee along
Maintain close relationships with the staff so staff can communicate needs and problems, as well as successes
