Dear Members: 2008 was a year of advocacy and action for your Chamber. By October, membership had reached 1340 members, the highest point in our history. The collective voice of our busi-ness community is loud – a voice to be heard in Augusta. Working together we accomplished many key objectives, in-cluding: ∗ Finished construction of new Chamber website, which has

been acclaimed by members ∗ Annual meeting, sponsored by Androscoggin Bank and co-

sponsored by Fairpoint Communications, Geiger, and Po-land Spring Bottling Company was totally sold out

∗ Introduced “Cool Chamber E-News,” to showcase mem-bers’ energy savings

∗ Androscoggin Business to Business Trade Show, organized by LAEGC, was again a sell-out and approximately 425 members attended the Chamber’s trade show breakfast at Bates College

∗ Raised over $42,000 for scholarships for local students ∗ YPLAA, the Young Professionals of the Lewiston Auburn

Area, grew to over 400 members and spawned over 20 events and activities

∗ Put together a new energy conference which was a huge success

∗ Initiated new Maine Grains and Grapes Festival which was attended by over 1,400

∗ Worked with WMTW-8 to introduce new “Keep Maine Strong” campaign – focusing the need to support local busi-ness.

∗ Published the 2008 Election Monitoring report – which was mailed to over 62,000 homes

∗ Hosted forum for US Senate candidates at the regular Octo-ber Chamber Breakfast

∗ SCORE successfully moved their business counseling to Chamber offices, bringing more support to members at the Business Service Center at KeyBank Plaza

∗ Members continue to use the new community conference room in large numbers

∗ Held record number of networking events for members

In May, I was honored by MaineBiz as the “Non Profit CEO of the Year” – and was thrilled by the large number of our members who attended the award ceremony.

This ninth annual report to members is dedicated to all those organizations and individuals whose support we rely on for our continuing success. We look forward to an even more successful 2009. Thank you for being there for us!
