Please email Brian O'Shea, assistant to the vice president for student life & dean of students, at [email protected]. Elon is embarking upon an innovative new project during the 08-09 academic year. Students will be invited to participate in a 3-day retreat, January 3-5, 2009 to engage in planning the steps that will lead to defining and reaching their goals. Topics at the retreat will include: identifying strengths, being alert to opportunities, taking measured risks, setting goals and strategic planning, and practicing the art of reflection and renewal. These skills will help students to better align their core identity with their professional and personal goals, especially in the context of their remaining years at Elon. Three cohorts made up of ten students with diverse experiences will participate in the retreat, each co-led by a faculty or staff person and an upper-class peer leader. Following the retreat, each cohort will meet weekly during winter term for students to begin implementing their “plan.” During the spring term, students will enroll in the university's one credit-hour “Transition Strategies” course to advance their career preparation while further incorporating the principles from the retreat. The faculty/ staff and student leaders will serve as instructors for this course in order to provide continuity in leadership and relationships with the cohorts. Through this network of peers and co-leaders, students will build a strong sense of direction and accountability for realizing their potential during Elon and beyond. In addition to the above activities students accepted to the program will be asked to attend a December pre-retreat meeting, read Life Entrepreneurs by Gergen and Vanourek prior to the January retreat, and pay a $50 deposit, which will be fully refunded upon completion of all requirements. Students will also be asked to participate in interviews and complete short questionnaires to provide feedback on their experiences in the program. Please tell us why you are interested in the Life Entrepreneur Program. What do you hope to gain from participating?
