Dear Fellow United Way Supporters,

What a Renaissance year this has been as my first year as Board President and what a list of thank you’s to the groups that made this year so successful!

A huge thank you to:

• The community of Brant for supporting Paul Kneale and his great campaign team to make the 2007 goal for the first time since 2001! Fantastic!

• The hard working and energetic Board of Directors that has carried Brant United Way for the past many years led by Ray Jackson and key executive members Kathy Weidhaas and Bob MacLean who are sadly retiring along with, Phil McColeman, Paul Williamson, Tim Philp, Kari Wilson, Drew Franklin and Peter Silverthorne. Without this energetic group of people, the revitalization the United Way is now experiencing would not have happened.

• To our staff who are the backbone of our day-to-day operations; they will assist to ensure we become the Charitable Leader of Brant. Special thanks to our long-term staff members who were so supportive during our transition: Diane Stubbert & Terri Ellison. Also, thanks to our new Executive Director Dianne Austin, Administrative Assistant Patty Brazil, and new Campaign Director Kristin Pass along with the new campaign team of Jocelyn Symons & Mary Pick. Thank you all so much.

• To Mary Park, Angela Stubbert & Caroline Wichrowski – Mary came out of retirement during our transition to assist us and did an outstanding job of putting the building blocks in place in order for us to run our successful campaign. Angela worked as a Campaign Associate, who under Mary’s tutelage did an incredible job rebuilding relationships with our workplace accounts. Caroline was the loaned representative from The Williamson Group who lent her expertise to the campaign team.

• I am personally so appreciative to Jane Stewart who has stepped up to Chair our 2008 Campaign and to help us galvanize the revitalization of Brant United Way!

• To Board Member Craig Surette, along with his father Gary Surette and his energetic Air Show Organizing Committee who plan every detail of our huge Air Show kick-off event! Also, I wish to thank the hundreds of people who volunteered their valuable time the day of the event.

• To Paula Tysoski and her team for organizing the 2007 Giant Warehouse Sale and the hundreds of volunteers who assisted on the day of the event.

• To the Business Community and the thousands of individuals within our community who provide ongoing financial support and/or resources to our Agency.

• And finally, to all the inspiring new Board Members who are joining the Board this year, led by Fred Reitsma who took over as Treasurer mid year….your community and the United Way Member Agencies thank you!

The list of people I needed to thank is huge, but the needs of Brant are even greater. This year the Board put in place a clear accountable strategic plan for Brant United Way; and, over the next five years we will hold ourselves accountable to constant improvement and innovation as we spread the United Way resources to a greater number of people in Brant.

Brant United Way is the largest annual charitable cause that every working citizen in Brant has an opportunity to support through weekly payroll deductions … it is the best means to provide the necessary support to those seniors, adults, children and youth within our community who need our assistance. Thank you!

I am honoured to be involved in the Brant United Way.

Yours truly,

Dean N. Braund

Our 2007 Campaign marked a highly successful year for the Brant United Way.

For the first time in six years, the annual Campaign surpassed its goal. The momentum built by the campaign staff and cabinet ultimately took our Campaign all the way to $1.43 million; $ 130,000 over goal.

As Campaign Chair, I had the honour of working with an inspired team of committed volunteers and staff, all working together to make Brantford and Brant County a better place to live.

My sincere appreciation goes out to:

• The Campaign Cabinet Team who worked tirelessly as dedicated leaders in each division;

• The Canvassers who made the vitally important calls, working the front lines to make contact and formalize commitments;

• The Event Chairs - Air Show and Warehouse Sale, their committees, the sponsors and the hundreds of volunteers who spent countless hours in producing our first class fundraising events;

• The United Way Staff who provided so much core support and kept the campaign on track and on target with their data base, organization, preparation and knowledge;

• The many Companies and their Employees who give so generously through their workplace campaigns;

• The many individuals, foundations, and organizations who committed so substantially to support the campaign;

• The United Way Board of Directors for their support and belief in me; and most of all,

• The Brant United Way Member Agencies who continuously strive to provide top quality human care core services to those in our community who require their assistance.

I would also like to extend a very special thank you to my family, who supported me throughout the campaign both with their patience and with their commitment to the cause, by accompanying me at many of the events I attended.

I am honoured to have been given the opportunity to serve as your Campaign Chair. The work has been exciting, gratifying, and I have learned much about the caring power that exists in our community.

The Brant United Way is a vital and thriving organization, which possesses the leadership, the skilled staff, and the inspired volunteers who together will continue to grow the campaign to meet our long term commitment to provide program funding for our core service providers.

To everyone involved, thank you for all your dedication and commitment.

Sincerely,

Paul Kneale2007 Brant United Way Campaign Chair
