ur goal at Helical Solutions is first and foremost to provide our customers with the highest quality cutting tools at a

reasonable price. We design and manufacture all of our tools with the end user in mind, creating application specific geometry tools to suit your every need. We are committed to continually improving the performance and quality of our tools, as well as our manufacturing process. We are confident that our tools will exceed your expectations and improve your productivity, as well as your bottom line.

We specialize in the quick turnaround of our customers’ special orders. When your needs require something different, give us a call. We will manufacture to your specifications, and deliver in a timely and cost effective manner.

using the highest quality carbide available. Our tools are CNC ground using the latest equipment available, and proceed through a rigorous inspection process before leaving our manufacturing facility.

Our tools are inspected using the latest in optical and laser inspection equipment to ensure that they meet our stringent quality standards. All of our tools are laser etched (part numbers and lot numbers) for traceability purposes.

COATINGS Coatings add lubricity and hardness to the tools’ cutting surfaces, and increases wear resistance. Coated tools are less prone to galling, last longer, and run at higher SFM. We also offer a number of “Optional Coatings” in order to best suit our customers’ needs. We highly recommend coatings for the machining of the following materials: SST, Ti, Ni Alloys, Graphite, Composites, as well as high Silica Aluminum grades.

STANDARD COATINGS

H1: TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) Properties: Exceptional lubricity and good resistance to abrasion. Applications: Tool Steels, Alloy Steels, Aluminum, & Cast Iron. Recommended for: Stainless steels, cast iron, & gummy (aerospace) aluminums.

H2: ZrN (Zirconium Nitride) Properties: Good lubricity and great resistance to abrasion. Applications: Aluminum, Brass, Cast Iron, Graphite, Ni Alloys, Ti Alloys, 300 / 400 PH Series Stainless, Zinc, & Glass-filled Plastics. Recommended for: Aluminums, especially automotive (cast) grades. Not recommended for Carbon Steels

H3: AlTiN (Aluminum Titanium Nitride)

Properties: Good lubricity and exceptional heat resistance. Applications: Carbon Steels, Alloy Steels, Tool Steels, Ni Alloys, Ti Alloys, 300 / 400 PH Stainless. Recommended for: Stainless steels, Ni alloys, Ti alloys, & other high temperature alloys.

OPTIONAL COATINGS

H4: TiN (Titanium Nitride)

Applications:

Designed for chamfering of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Eliminates manual deburring and countersinking of holes. 90°, 60°, and 120° included angles. High pressure coolant, flood, mist, or dry milling with air blast is recommended.

Coatings:

AlTiN (H3) for harder and more abrasive materials. Hardlube (H5) for exceptional lubricity and great heat resistance (recommended).

HIGH-SPEED MACHINING AS IT APPLIES TO AEROSPACE TYPE ALUMINUM PARTS

GOAL

Achieve the highest rates of material removal Efficiently machine large, monolithic parts with multiple cavities and thin walls Reduce the number of setups

MEANS Use high-speed/high-velocity machining process REQUIREMENTS High RPM/high feed rate capable CNC machining center Reduced neck style high performance carbide end mills APPROACH Machine at highest available RPM Machine at high feed rates Take axial cuts up to 20% of tools diameter Take radial cuts up to full diameter of the tool Leave at least 5% of tool diameter for the finish pass This 5% will change depending on the thickness of the wall, feed rates, and desired finishes Machine in a “waterfall-like” manner (as shown in the example below) EXAMPLE Large part with 6 pockets milled to a .450 final “Z” depth, taking 3 passes at Z-.150 each.
