    This year, 2007, marks the150th Anniversary of theestablishment of the County ofUnion. In 1857, the land thatwas roughly the area of theoriginal Elizabethtown, became the last NewJersey county to be formed.

    This booklet, Special Events of Four Centuriesin a Weekend 2007, describes the uniquefashion in which this significant anniversary is

    being celebrated.

    The booklet lists the talented performing artists,musicians and speakers who are adding theirown special dimension to the Weekend.

    Look to see where storytellers, performers, re-

    enactors, historians and musicians are located.Some are performing at specific times andothers are available to speak with visitorsthroughout both afternoons.

    York businessman who created Feltville i n 1845.

    Between 12:30 and 4:30 on both days , Dr.Joe Craig, a National Park Ranger, portraysa surgeon at the time of the AmericanRevolution.

    Saturday afternoon,a Zouave Civil

    War re-enactor talks with visitors.On Bothdays hear a talk about

    "Two Henrys," Henry J. Phillips andHenry Vanderver. The discussionoffers the contrast between white and black soldiers during the

    Civil War. A black soldier re-enactor from the 22nd UnitedStates Colored Troops describes his war experiences.

    BOXWOOD HALL STATEHISTORIC SITE

    Boudinot Mansion1073 East Jersey Street

    Meet a soldier from the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). Chris

    Keenan portrays a Quarter MasterSergeant of the 4th US on both days.

    Stroll through this pastoral site thatincludes a 19th-century Gothic cottage,

    Elizabeth Athletic Club baseball player, Paul

    Salomone, discusses baseball history on bothdays at 1:00 and 3:00. He will talk about anddemonstrate 1891 base ball rules and equipment,

    and the evolution of the game to modern times.

    Both days are being spent celebrating the 100th

    Anniversary of the Borough of Kenilworth. Guidesdressed in 1900s clothing will interpret local historical

    characters. Come and see the latest restoration. Souvenirs,refreshments and commemorative coverlets are available.

    On both days at 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00, StacyRoth tells stories and sings songs about 18th

    century women - a repertoire that illustrates

    their struggles, triumphs and privatethoughts, emphasizing New Jersey women.

    EVERGREEN CEMETERY

    This program is presented on both

    days. At 11:45 and 1:45 re-enactorsof the 6th Regiment United StatesColored Troops tell the story of courageous African

    Americans who fought in the Civil War. At 1:00 and 3:00,Harold Scheidegger conducts tours of the cemetery.

    Join an on-going conversation withSojourner Truth on both daysbetween1:00 and 3:00. Ali cia Washington, story-

    teller, teacher and actor, portrays the 19thcentury abolitionist and feminist activist

    through the delivery of historic speeches and stories.

    Learn about Moral Moments in the lifeof Abraham Lincoln. Historical speaker

    Glenn LeBoeuf presents rarely heard sto-ries of Abraham Lincoln's compassion,

    empathy and kindness - 1:00, 2:00 and3:00 on both Saturday and Sunday.

    On both daysbetween 12:30 and 4:00,musicians from Music for All Seasons will play the fi ddle.Hear and enjoy 18th century tunes played in an authentic

    setting by Dave Rimelis on Sat. and Gary Oleyar on Sun.

    While the Union County Performing ArtsCenter plans to be open, please call 732-499-0441 or check

    the website www.ucac.org to confirm that visitors cancome inside and see the important changes taking place. Ifit is open the UCPAC's organist will be playing the

    Biggest Little Wurlitzer.

    Roselle was the first municipality to

    be lighted by electricity. Jack Stanleywill talk about Thomas Edison andhis inventions on both days between12:30 and 4:30. He'll demonstrate

    vintage phonographs and other equipment.

    Victorian harp music provides added ambiancefor A Very Victorian Christmas with theOsborn Family. Music For All Seasons

    musicians will play the harp; Joanne Hansenperforms between 12:30 and 4:00 on Saturday, and DianeMichaels plays during the same hours on Sunday.

    The 3rd NJ Regiment, The JerseyBlues, re-enactors are at theCannon Ball house on both days

    of the Weekend. They're talking

    with visitors about 18th century uniforms, equipment andweapons. New recruits are joining the soldiers in a

    training drill.

    ROSELLE PARK MUSEUM

    Enjoy the wonderful sound of the Presidents

    Men between 12:30 and 3:30 on both Saturday and

    Sunday. The a cappella quartet performs popular andtraditional music as well as novelty tunes - all in the f our-

    part harmony style known as barbershop.

    REEVES-REED ARBORETUM165 Hobart Avenue

    Soprano Molly Watson, accompanied on the

    piano by Eugene Rohrer, transports you tothe turn of the last century with songs of the

    Gilded Age. They're performing at theWisner House on both days at 1:30, 2:30and 3:30. View the photo display, Gardens

    of a Golden Age: The Landscape and Restored Gardens atReeves-Reed. Guided tours of the grounds on the hour.

    Victorian costumed Ruth Grabner, theSilhouette Lady, demonstrates the art of paper silhouette

    cutting on both afternoons. She's relating the history ofthis art form that goes back to Colonial America.Silhouettes of many visitors are being created.

    LIBERTY HALL MUSEUM

    The stories of two hundred years of the

    Livingston/Kean families await you at UnionCounty's largest historic house museum.

    Twenty-three acres of formal grounds and gardens sur-round the house that grew to be a mansion. Walk from thvisitor center in the Blue House to the main house. Stop

    the 1882 red brick carriage house, the green house and theFire House Museum.

    Hear and learn about Colonial Americanmusic. Music For All Seasons musician,

    John Burkhalter, plays songs of the era onthe alto and soprano recorder between

    12:30 and 4:00 on both Saturday and Sunday.

    Terri Campion is visiting this weekend onas Eleanor Roosevelt. At 1:30, 2:30 and3:30 on both days, she shares her personal

    experiences growing up, her courtship withFDR, her life through two world wars, and her years after

    Franklin and as First Lady of the World.

    Take a tour of the lobby that includesa Jack Manley Rose mural, co-founder and benefactorMarjorie Cranstoun Jefferson's portrait, and a water foun-

    tain from the Metropolitan Opera House. Technicalrehearsals for the next production are taking place at the

    playhouse this weekend.

    MILLER-CORY HOUSEMUSEUM

    Enjoy the aroma and taste of 18 th

    century dishes prepared on both daysat an open hearth. Join the Miller-Cory

    volunteers as they pay tribute to those who first lived onthese local lands: the Lenapes on Saturday and theMohawks, Micmac and others on Sunday.
