he 2008 NCAA Division II National WrestlingChampionships will be hosted by Upper IowaUniversity on March 14-15 in Cedar Rapids,Iowa.

The University of Central Oklahoma, coachedby David James, is the defending team champion.

One of the most successful coaches in the nation, regardlessof division or classification, James’ Bronchos have capturedan amazing 12 national championship titles while compilingan extraordinary 239-28 dual meet record against NAIA,NCAA II, and NCAA Division III competition. Now enteringhis 26th year as head coach, James has coached 44 individualnational champions, 153 All-Americans, and has been hon-ored as National Coach of the Year on seven occasions. Jamesalso excelled as a wrestler at UCO, claiming two nationalchampionships and earning All-American honors fourtimes. This year’s squad will be led by NCAA championKyle Evans (141), All-Americans Tyler Zukerman (125),Jason Leavitt (157), and Heath Jolley (184), and NCAA qual-ifier Daniel Morrison (165). Three former National JuniorCollege All-Americans looking to provide some additionalfirepower are Luke Elmore (149), Paul Mayfield (157), andTommy McCarthy (174). Under the tutelage of Head Coach Marc Bauer, theUniversity of Nebraska-Kearney has established itself as oneof the nation’s premier programs both academically and ath-letically. Since taking over the Loper program prior to the1999-2000 season, Bauer has led UNK to seven top 10 finish-es at the NCAA Championships – including national runner-up finishes in 2003, 2006, and 2007, two NWCA/Cliff KeenDuals Championships, produced 41 All-Americans and sixnational champions, and mentored numerous Academic All-Americans. A strong nucleus returns led by NCAA champi-ons Brett Allgood (133) and Tervel Dlagnev (285), and All-Americans Jeff Rutledge (141), Joe Ellenberger (157), TaylorMay (165), Matt Farrell (184), and Kelsey Empting (197).Three transfer students looking to provide significant contri-butions are Joey Morrison (125), Kamarudeen Usman (174),and Willie Weber (285). Other experienced grapplers includeMichael Abril (125), Cody Lambotte (149), Ryan Etherton(149), Keenan McCurdy (165), Paul Sutton (174), and DerekRoss (184). The University of Nebraska-Omaha, coached by MikeDenney, will look to regain the national championship thateluded them last year after three consecutive titles. One of themost respected coaches in the nation, regardless of division orclassification, Denney’s Mavericks have firmly establishedthemselves as a premier program that is recognized for itsachievements both on and off the mat. Denney brings in animpressive 267-106-5 dual meet record into the new seasonand has coached 26 national champions and 151 Division IIAll-Americans. This year’s edition of the Green &White will be led by NCAA champion Jared Deaugero (184), All-Americans Arsenia Barksdale (125), Raymond Dunning (133),Joey Deaugero (141), and Evan Copeland (165), and NCAA qual-ifier Mike Gallegos (157). Rob Fisher enters his 8th season at the helm of the KutztownUniversity Bears wrestling program. He mentored 2007 NCAAchampion Joe Kemmerer (133), who will redshirt in 2008, and histeams have posted winning records in all seven of his years ashead coach. Five wrestlers who will be counted on heavily areNCAA qualifier Chris Chambers (149), and Pennsylvania StateAthletic Conference placers Cory Weiss (125), Curtis Beardsell(174), Kyle Davis (184), and Rich Dalmas (285). Additional supportshould come from returnees Bryce Ebert (141), Mike Bohl (149),Mike Wisniewski (149), Dave Zeek (157), and Andrew Osborne(165). Two prolific transfer students will help tremendously. Theyare previous Pennsylvania state runners-up Clint Collins (141)and Scott Snyder (197). In 12 seasons as head coach at the University of CentralMissouri, Robin Ersland has had 59 national qualifiers, 26 All-Americans, produced 2006 NCAA champion Plamen Paskalev,

and has been honored as the NCAA Division II Midwest RegionCoach of the Year three times. Team leaders for this season are All-American Jesse Sheets (165) and NCAA qualifier Jeremy Hudson(184). Other potential starters include Caleb Hulse (125), ByronClark (125), Keaton Baker (133), Caleb Dixon (133), Grant Baker(141), Cory Bloodgood (141), Vince Bertucci (157), Bill Forrest(157), Andrew Hicklin (157), Matt Bailes (165), Travis Barbarick(174), Dan McGee (184), and Sean Miller (197). Two high-profileincoming freshmen are multiple Missouri state champions KenzieMcClain (149) and Cody Beck (285).

Jay Yates enters his 6th season as the University of Indianapolishead wrestling coach. He has coached 10 All-Americans and 21NCAA qualifiers. Three-time All-American Shane Perkey (133)returns to provide extraordinary leadership and will be admirablysupported by NCAA qualifiers Matt Irwin (141) and Mike Horton(157). An outstanding redshirt freshman is Indiana state placerJessy Walley (184). Other returnees include Jimmy Nichols (125),Josh Allen (125), Chad Woods (149), Cory Fornal (157), AaronBrooks (157), Corey Zollinger (157), Dave Walpole (165), BrandonGarner (165), Graham Grider (197), Lynn Panko (285), and AlexWilliams (285). Lars Jensen begins his 25th season as head coach of the SanFrancisco State University wrestling program. During hisimpressive tenure as the mentor of the Gators, Jensen hascoached 9 NCAA champions, 50 All-Americans, and in 1997, thewrestling team won the NCAA Division II National

Two elite transfer students from Division ICal State Fullerton are Curtis Schurkamo (125) and JoaquinCarlos (141). In his 8th year as head coach at Northern State University,Patrick Timm continues to bring the Wolves back to a level ofnational prominence. He returns four wrestlers with priorNCAA experience. They are Chas Welch (125), Andy Sinclair(174), Cale Corneman (184), and Todd Naasz (197). Otherreturnees include Corbin Surat (125), Dave Schiley (141), DustinBonn (149), Phillip Downs (157), Chad Morrison (165), andJared Little (285). An exceptional transfer from RidgewaterJunior College is two-time South Dakota state champion JamesMarx (125). Four-time South Dakota state placer Ricky Schileyleads the list of incoming freshmen who also include AlecAnderson (133), Aaron Ford (149), Ryan Larsen (149), ChrisHunt (149), Donnie Bowden (165), Logan Anderson (285), andJake Michalson (285).

After coaching Dana College to the 2006 NAIA Championshiptitle, Steve Costanzo begins his second year as head coach of theSt. Cloud State University wrestling program. The Huskies willbe very young and inexperienced, but have a great amount oftalent and competitiveness within the squad. Seven wrestlerswho will be counted on heavily are NCAA qualifier Nick Wilkes(197), previous National Junior College Championships All-Americans Josh Williams (133), Matt Steffenson (165), and Brad

Padgett (184), and multi-talented redshirt freshmen GabeSuarez (141), John Sundgren (157), and Derek Skala (174). Othergrapplers with prior collegiate experience include WestyHanson (125), Michael Markey (149), Chris Kubasch (149),Justin Jones (157), Jairo Sandoval (184), Chris Schiewe (285), andNolan Boucher (285). Five dynamic incoming freshmen areWisconsin state champion Jordan Foy (133), Washington statechampion Jake Horn (141), and Minnesota state championsAdam Helgeson (141), Tad Merritt (165), and Lucas Munkelwitz(174).

David Schutter enters his 18th season as the Truman StateUniversity head wrestling coach. Under his guidance, he hasrevived the passion for Bulldogs wrestling and has elevated theprogram to a level of national respect. In 2004, Schutter men-tored Merrick Meyer to the 141-pound NCAA Division IInational title. Leading the way this year are All-American BlakePeterson (165) and NCAA qualifiers Dan Keller (133) and LoydeBraidlow (285). Additional support could come from returningteam members Rob Nahlik (125), Kaz Hastimotto (125), MitchellBainbridge (141), Andy Bader (157), Vince Vitatoe (157),Andrew Isbell (157), Cameron Mitchell (165), Dean Schultz(174), Bryan Isbell (184), Brian Hillard (184), Tim Wolkey (197),John Horman (197), and Matt Craig (285). Shippensburg University, coached by Don Tabor, returnsNCAA runner-up Steve Fittery (141) and NCAA qualifiers DanNauman (149) and Jack Wilson (165) to provide outstandingleadership. Two extremely talented redshirt freshmen with agreat amount of promise are Pennsylvania state placers David

The Limestone College wrestling teamenters its fourth year of competition withhigh hopes. The squad has continued toget better under Head Coach Ben Stehurasince its inaugural season in 2004-05. Thisyear, the Saints will be led by NCAA qual-ifiers Brent Clausing (133) and Trey Moss(285) and regional placers Ian Barker (125),Joby Schreckhise (174), and Mikel Bush(157).
