Findings• African American freshman applications: upward trend

• AA Admission rate is lower than in past years, but comparable to white rates at each GPA level

• African American graduation rates: upward trend

• Very few African American PhDs; no consistent trend in the past 5 years

• Very few African American faculty.

Needs: Current Programs and

Proposed Initiatives • Need to focus on recruiting high-achieving students.

• Two new diversity scholarships; Pack Promise; NC EARN• NC State Affordability Initiative: Ben Ruffin Scholars Program for Social Justice; Increase Pack Promise Scholars; NC State Achieve! Scholarships; Enhance Graduate Student Support Plan

• Need to increase number of college-ready students.• Office of Pre-College Programs, Science House, SPACE program, AGEP programs, many more…• Pathway to Knowledge Pre-college Initiative

• Need to increase AA faculty and pipeline• Building Future Faculty Program• Fall 2007 Call to Action, Target of Opportunity Hiring
