Configuration Session Agenda

• Configure for “Windows XP Classic View”• NTLMv2 Authentication Update• Register wired and wireless MAC addresses• Rename Admin account to match IU Username• Generate additional local Admin account (optional)• Rename machine name to KSB network standard• Install network printer (s)• Demonstrate accessing mail through web client• Setup VPN client (non-standard machines) • Download printer utility, Symantec Antivirus, Office

Switching to Windows XP Classic View (Non-Standard Machines only)

• Start Menu – Right click, choose PROPERTIES, Select “Classic Start Menu”

• Desktop – Right click – choose PROPERTIES – select “Windows Classic (Modified)” Theme

• Control Panel – Choose “classic view” & turn off “fast user switching” under USER ACCOUNTS

• Expand Local Policies and click Security Options.  Double on "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level."  From the drop down menu select "Send NTLMv2 response only\refuse LM & NTLM“click Ok.

Notebook Computer Setup and Maintenance

• Non-standard users only – (Security Risk) – Uninstall File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks– Within Network Connections, right click Local Area Connection and

choose “Properties”– Select “File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks” and click

UNINSTALL

• Standard users only – Change network type on VPN Connection from L2TP IPSEC VPN to AUTOMATIC– Within Network Connections, double click VPN Connection– Choose Properties and select the Networking tab– Under Type of VPN: select “Automatic”

• Alternative VPN connection available through http://iuware.iu.edu site.

• Change Administrator Password– Password: {match your IU password/passphrase} – NOTE: Non-standard users should assign a password to the

Administrator account if they are using a different account

• Rename Notebook Administrator Account to Match IU Username

• Create spare Admin account (optional)– Username: mother’s maiden name– Password: eye color+birthdate(ddmmyyyy) – no dashes or slashes

• Change Notebook Computer Name & Reboot– bl-bus-username

Re-build DVDs for Standard Machines

• Only KSB “standard” notebook computer purchasers should take re-build DVDs (NOTE: use of rebuild DVD on non-standard machines may have catastrophic results!)

How to Check E-mail

• Use Outlook Web Access (OWA) – Outlook client will be configured in your scheduled Orientation session – use web client to check mail until then

• Web address: http://www.exchange.iu.edu

• Use IU credentials to authenticate

How to Install KSB Network Printers

• Make sure you have authenticated through the VPN• Double click on Printer Locator icon on desktop• Login (username & password)• Choose “Business Grad” from Building: drop-down• Find the desired printer in the list of STC printer(s)• Click Add Printer• If prompted login again (password)• Check status at bottom of dialog box to see if printer

was installed. Repeat for each printer.

Network Printer Quota– Information

• Print Audit Account – generated automatically when you first created your accounts

• Quota – allowed 1000 pages/semester

• Rollover – allowed to rollover up to 300 pages of unused quota from fall to spring semester in January (look for reminder note from TS in January)

• Additional pages – available in lots of 100 @ $4/100
