8. 18-22 AWG wire, approx. 4 ft. (if required to connect A21 pin to D3 pin). 9. ¼” Ring terminal for 18-22 AWG wire (if required to terminate added D3 ground pin). 10. Butt splices, quantity 2 for 18-24 AWG wire (or solder and heat shrink) (if required to connect A21 pin to D3 Pin) 11. Tap splices, quantity 2-4 for 18-24 AWG wire (or solder and heat shrink) (if required). Two tap splices are required to connect wires from CC clutch switch to wires in under-hood fuse panel). One tap splice will also be required if connecting ECM A21 pin to existing Connector D3 pin or existing Connector A21 pin to connector D3 pin. One tap splice will also be required to connect the cruise control indicator module to the ignition switched power wire if installing the optional module. 12. Cable ties – 6” long, quantity 6 (if required for the ECM connector shroud and tying down the ECM to connector D3 wire and the clutch switch wire). Tools Required: 1. Torx T30 driver 2. Small flat blade screwdriver (or small knife blade) 3. #2 Phillips screwdriver 4. Ratchet with 19 mm and 10mm sockets 5. Wire cutters/strippers 6. Pliers or crimp tool for terminals 7. Small cutting pliers 8. Small hobby knife. 9. Needle nose pliers

Installation: 1. Cruise Control Stalk

Warning – This section involves removing the steering wheel airbag. Extreme caution must be exercised when working with the airbag assembly. 1.1. Steering Wheel Airbag Removal

1.1.1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait a minimum of 90 seconds for the electrical system to fully discharge.

1.1.2. Loosen the airbag mounting screw on either side of the steering wheel lower boss (cover) using the Torx T30 driver. These screws are extremely tight, so make sure that the driver is fully seated to avoid stripping the screws. The screws are captive, so once loosened they will remain attached to the steering wheel assembly.

1.1.3. Carefully pull the airbag out to access its connectors.

1.1.4. Release the connectors by lifting the yellow locking tab, in the center of

the connector, with a small screwdriver and then remove the connectors.

1.1.5. Remove the horn connector from the frame of the airbag assembly by squeezing the small metal tab and pulling the connector off.

1.1.6. Set the airbag aside connector side down.

1.2. Steering Wheel Lower Boss with Hole for Cruise Control Stalk (Optional) Warning – This section involves removing the steering wheel. Care must be taken to not rotate the spiral cable (AKA clockspring) while the steering wheel is removed. 1.2.1. Before removing the steering wheel, mark its position relative to the shaft

by drawing a line with a permanent marker or paint pen extending from the shaft to the steering wheel frame. This will ensure that you are able to put the steering wheel back in the same position.

1.2.2. Using a 19mm socket, remove the steering wheel nut.

1.2.3. Grasp the sides of the steering wheel and gently rock the steering wheel while pulling to remove it.

1.2.4. Remove the two screws at the top of the frame using a #2 Phillips screwdriver and release the clips that hold the lower boss to the bottom arm of the steering wheel frame.

1.2.5. Replace the lower boss with the new one, snapping the clip to the bottom arm of the frame, and installing the two mounting screws.

1.2.6. Replace the steering wheel, lining up the mark made above, and tightening the 19mm nut.

1.3. Drill the lower boss for the Cruise Control Stalk (if not replacing the lower boss). This can be done with the steering wheel on or off, provided that the airbag is removed.

1.3.1. Make a mark on the right side of the lower steering wheel boss precisely ¾” down from the bottom of the airbag screw hole and ¾” forward of the back of the lower boss.

1.3.2. Drill a 1-1/8” hole centered on the mark.

1.4. Install the Cruise Control Stalk

1.4.1. Slide the Cruise Control Stalk through the hole and position its two screw-hole tabs over the two threaded holes on the lower right and align its top left hole over the steering wheel frame alignment pin. Install the two M5 screws using a #2 Phillips screwdriver.

1.4.2. Unplug the existing spiral cable connector (V1) by squeezing the locking tab on the top of it. Insert the Cruise Control Stalk connector in its place.

1.4.3. If the new Cruise Control Stalk cable does not include the horn wire, then transfer the pin from the exiting connector.

1.4.3.1. Lift the existing connector’s pin lock using a small screwdriver.

1.4.3.2. Grasp the wire and pull the horn pin out of the connector.

1.4.3.3. Lift the new connector’s pin lock using a small screwdriver.

1.4.3.4. Insert the horn pin into the same position in the new connector. Ensure that you are inserting it in the same orientation as it was removed above. The pin will click into place when fully seated.

1.4.3.5. Press the pin lock back down. If it does not easily snap back down, then the pin is not properly oriented or seated.

1.5. Replace the airbag

1.5.1. Connect the horn wire’s connector to the male spade connector on the airbag assembly.

1.5.2. Insert the two airbag connectors and push in their locking tabs down.

1.5.3. Press the airbag into place on the steering wheel.

1.5.4. Tighten the two Torx T30 airbag mount screws.

2. Spiral Cable Connector D3 Pins (if required). Connector D3 is located on the left side, under the lower steering column cover.

2.1. Remove the lower steering column cover by removing the two screws accessed by rotating the steering wheel and the screw by the steering wheel tilt lever.

2.2. Locate Connector D3, which is to the left of the yellow connector in the photo below. If connector D3 contains just one black wire, then two pins must be added to the connector where the blue and brown wires are in the photo. Note that the Blue wire is in position 1 and the brown in position 2 of the connector.

2.3. Remove the connector by squeezing the connector’s latch and pulling.

2.4. Lift the connector’s pin lock using a small screwdriver.

2.5. Insert the two repair terminals into positions 1 and 2. The pins must be inserted in the orientation shown below. Note which color wire you insert into which position.

2.6. When the pins are fully seated they will click into place. When they are fully seated, press the pin lock back down. If it does not easily snap back down, then the pin is not properly oriented or seated.

2.7. Insert Connector D3 back in place.

3. ECM Connector A21 Pin (if required). The ECM is located in the engine bay, on the passenger side, against the firewall. Connector A21 is the smaller of the two connectors on top of the ECM.

3.1. Unlock the ECM Connector A21 latch, by pressing in on the gray connector latch with your fingertip.

3.2. Rotate the connector latch arm up and to your right.

3.3. Once the connector latch arm is in the vertical position, you can lift the connector off of the ECM.

3.4. Flip the connector over, shine a light into the pin holes, and verify that Pin 40 is not present (circled in red below). If the pin is present you will see metal in the hole. If the pin is present in position 40 of the ECM, but pins 1 and 2 of connector D3 are not present, then the wire is installed from Pin 40 of the ECM connector A21 to Pin 6 of connector AD4. Connector AD4 is located just under the top of the dashboard, so running a wire from it to connector D3 is more difficult than from the ECM to D3. To do so, you can tap the existing Pin 40 light blue wire and run a wire through the firewall to Connector D3.

3.5. Carefully Clip the tie wrap that holds the shroud to the wire bundle using a small cutting pliers.

3.6. Unlatch the connector shroud by releasing the left and right side tabs using a flat blade screwdriver. Push in and rotate the screwdriver down and to the left to release the tabs.

3.7. Lift the side of the shroud where you just released the tabs, and then push down on the other end and pull it towards the end with the tabs. The other end of the shroud has upward facing hooks that you are releasing.

3.8. With the shroud removed, locate the hole for pin 40, which contains a weatherproof plug (circled in red in the photo below). There is a blue wire to the left of it and a brown wire below it.

3.9. Using a sewing pin or other small, stiff item, press the plug out from the pin side. If using a sewing pin, poking it into the hole a couple of times will result in the plug popping out.

3.10. Release the connector pin lock by pressing the white plastic pin lock with a small screwdriver. The white plastic pin lock mechanism will then stick up about 1/8”.

3.11. Insert the ECM pin into position 40. The open side of the ECM pin must face up when inserting into the connector with the connector positioned as in the photo below.

3.12. The pin should insert easily and will click into place when fully inserted. If it is difficult to insert or will not seat, then remove the pin and verify its orientation.

3.13. With the pin fully seated, press the white plastic pin lock back down. If it does not easily snap back down, then the pin is not properly oriented or seated.

3.14. Reseat the shroud by inserting the hooked end first and then snapping the tabbed end into place.

3.15. Replace the cable tie that you clipped to remove the connector shroud and reseat the connector. Make sure that the connector latch arm is fully vertical before seating the connector, and then rotate the arm down to your left until it latches.

4. Connect the ECM Connector A21 pin 40 to the Steering Column Connector D3 Pin 1. There are a few places where you can bring the wire from the ECM through the firewall. The closest to the ECM is the rubber hole plug just above the passenger side of the ECM.

4.1. Remove the plug either using your fingertips or a pair of needle nose pliers. With the plug removed you will see the underside of the insulation under the carpet.

4.2. Using a hobby knife, poke a hole through the insulation and the carpet.

4.3. On the inside of the car, remove the lower passenger side glove box by opening the glove box, pulling up against the hinge, and then pushing the stops in towards the glove box to allow it to come out. Shine a flashlight on the carpet up by the A/C air intake to verify that the utility knife made it though the firewall. In the photo below you can see the hobby knife blade poking through the carpet.

4.4. Using the hobby knife, poke a hole through the thin area of the plug. After poking the hole from the front of the plug, flip it over and open the hole a bit more from the back side.

4.5. Stick the end of the ECM pin wire through front side of the hole. If it won’t go, stick the tip of the needle nose pliers into the hole and open them slightly to spread the hole, and feed the wire through while it is open.

4.6. Feed the ECM pin wire through the firewall and carpet holes and then insert the firewall plug back into the hole.

4.7. On the inside of the firewall, pull the wire through, leaving enough slack to allow future removal of the ECM connector. Cable tie the excess wire to the harness above the ECM.

4.8. Splice the ECM pin wire to the piece of 18-22 AWG wire using a butt splice or

solder and heat shrink tubing.

4.9. Run the 18-22 AWG wire across the dash by feeding it between the dash and the A/C system. In the photo below you can see the space that you will be running it through.

4.10. On the driver’s side, flip down the access panel below the steering wheel and pull the wire through. Crimp the wire to the wire going to pin 1 of connector D3. Note: If you are installing the optional Cruise Control Indicator module, you will be crimping an additional wire for it to the ECM pin wire.

4.11. Crimp a ¼” ring terminal onto the wire going to pin 2 of connector D3 and mount the ring terminal under a bolt that goes into sheet metal under the dash. Note: If you are installing the optional Cruise Control Indicator module, you will be crimping an additional wire for it in this ring terminal.

4.12. Close the lower dash access panel, replace the lower steering column cover and its 3 mounting screws, and reinstall the lower passenger glove box.

5. Cruise Control Clutch Switch Installation (if required) 5.1. Located the clutch switch connector above the clutch pedal mount. If your

vehicle lacks the cruise control clutch switch wiring, you will need to run the wiring from the switch, through the firewall to the under-hood fuse panel. If your vehicle lacks the wiring, solder wires approximately 4’ long to the two terminals of the switch and heat shrink them.

5.2. On the clutch pedal mount, remove the stop bolt.

5.3. Install the cruise control clutch switch in place of the bolt. Rotate the switch until its plunger is depressed by the pad on the clutch pedal arm. Tighten the lock nut and verify after tightening that the clutch switch plunger is still depressed.

5.4. If your vehicle has the wiring in place for the cruise control clutch switch, plug the connector into the clutch switch.

5.5. If your vehicle lacks the wiring for the clutch switch, locate the large grommet on the firewall approximately 1’ above the clutch pedal.

5.5.1. Poke a small hole in the bottom of the grommet and insert the wires from the clutch switch. Push them through at least 1’ to allow you to grab it on the other side of the firewall.

5.5.2. Locate the other end of the wire under the hood, between the battery and the driver side strut tower. Pull the wire through to the under-hood fuse box.

5.5.3. Bring the wire into the under-hood fuse box via the channel on the front of the fuse box.

5.5.4. Locate Connector CA1 (next to the violet and brown relays) and remove the connector by squeezing the connector latch on the driver’s side of the connector.

5.5.5. Remove the electrical tape that ties the wires together and locate the blue and white wires on either side of the large violet wire in the center row of the connector.

5.5.6. Using tap splices or solder and heat shrink, connect the two wires from the clutch switch to these two wires (polarity of the wires is not important). If there are two wires in the blue wire’s position, connect the clutch switch wire to either of the two blue wires.

6. Cruise Control Indicator Module Installation (optional). Yaris prior to 2009 do not have a cruise control indicator on the instrument cluster. Cruise control can be operated without visual indication, but some find it useful to know if cruise control is on or off. The cruise control indicator module monitors the CCS signal from the cruise control stalk to the ECM and illuminates an LED when cruise control mode is activated.

6.1. Connect the blue wire to the Connector D3 pin 1 wire. Splice the blue wire to the wire which connects D3 pin 1 to the ECM pin.

6.2. Connect the black wire to a chassis ground with the Connector D3 pin 2 wire.

6.3. Connect the white wire to the pink, ignition switched power wire, on the Ignition switch connector D8 using a tap splice or solder and heat shrink.

6.4. Choose a location for the indicator LED and drill a ¼” hole. Approximately 1” of clearance will be required behind the mounting location.

6.5. Insert the LED holder into the hole and press unit it is fully seated.

6.6. Insert the LED into the holder until it clicks into place.

7. Verifying Operation of the Cruise Control. If your vehicle has an indicator on the instrument cluster or you have installed the Cruise Control Indicator Module then verifying operation can be done in two steps. Without an indicator you will have to go right to the road test to verify operation.

7.1. Verifying that Cruise Control will turn on/off (if the vehicle is equipped with an indicator on the cluster or the optional Cruise Control Indicator Module).

7.1.1. With the ignition switch in the on position (and the engine not running) press the ON/OFF switch on the stalk and the indicator should turn on. Press it again and the indicator should turn off. If the indicator does not turn on, check the following:

7.1.1.1. Verify that all of the wiring components are in place (Cruise Stalk wire, Connector D3 pins, Connector A21 pin).

7.1.1.2. Verify that all of the pins are properly seated.

7.1.1.3. Verify that all connections are solid.

7.1.1.4. Verify that the ground connection is good.

7.1.1.5. If you have a volt meter, measure the voltage at pin 1 of Connector D3, with the connector plugged in. The voltage should read approximately 12 VDC when the ON/OFF button is not pressed and 0 VDC when it is pressed and held.

7.2. Verifying that you can activate cruise control. This should be done on an open road with no traffic.

7.2.1. Get the vehicle up to a speed of 25 MPH or greater.

7.2.2. Press the ON/OFF button to turn Cruise Control on.

7.2.3. Press the stalk down to SET the cruise speed.

7.2.4. Lift your foot off of the accelerator pedal.

7.2.5. The vehicle should maintain the SET speed.

7.2.6. If the vehicle does not maintain speed, check the following:

7.2.6.1. If the vehicle has a manual transmission make sure that you installed the Cruise Control Clutch switch and that it is properly wired. Also verify that the clutch switch is depressed when the clutch switch is not pressed.
