Well, another year has come and gone and what a year this has been in the life of The York

School. The year has been captured so beautifully by this yearbook. The pages are full of

memories and good friends. As you look through these pages, your activities and events will

jump out at you. Who will forget our Terry Fox Run & Fun Fair, the Grade 6 Exhibition, the

many trips to Camp Oochigeas, French plays, the Intergenerational Choir and so forth. I

could go on and on but the wonderful part of having this yearbook is that the memories of

the year are captured so beautifully in these pages.

I would like to thank all of the parents, staff and students that have made my first year at

York so welcoming and inviting. I would especially like to thank Susan Charron and David

Hamilton for everything that they have done to make my transition painless and reward

ing. As well, I would like to thank the rest of the staff for everything that they do for you our

students. Their dedication and sense of duty is simply AMAZING!!!

Finally, I would like to thank the Yearbook staff for such an outstanding achievement. I will

treasure my copy forever. It is a wonderful memory.

The pages of this year's Perspective capture many of the learning experiences and special events that marked the

2006 2007 school year for the Lower School students. Looking through the yearbook will spark wonderful memo

ries of those events for you.

From the early days of September to the final days in June, teachers and students were engaged in exciting inquiry

as their classrooms became apple tasting kitchens, writers' workshops, recycling and reusing centres, mountain

environments, energy labs, tower and bridge building sites, French cafes, artists' studios, electricity fairs and much

more!

Beyond the walls of the classroom, students participated in Student Council, Primary and Junior Choir, ISMF, the

Junior Development League, the Terry Fox Run, United Way Week, Health and Wellness Day, the Oochathon, the

musical production of Into The Woods, the Book Fair and class trips to the theatre, the Science Centre, the ROM,

art galleries, synagogues, temples and churches, Horseshoe Valley and Camp Oochigeas.

Thank you, Katherine Almeida and Anne Bell, for successfully depicting a very busy and productive Lower School

within the pages of this year's Perspective.

Jimmy and Ryan's Visit

Ryan's Well

By Talia Klein 68

Ryan's Well was meaningful to me because even though Ryan, the founder of Ryan's Well, was only 6 years old, he helped build a well in Uganda, Mrica. I couldn't believe that his friend from the village, Jimmy, had to wake up at 12:00 a.m. to walk 5 km just to get dirty water. After Ryan built his well, Jimmy could wake up at 8: oo a.m. and still have time to get water before he went to school. It amazes me that every so seconds someone dies from a water related problem and every 8 seconds a child dies. After 10 years of Ryan raising money, Ryan has helped to build 245 wells. It amazes me that one person can do so much and make such a big difference.
