ExpectationsExpectationsExpectationsExpectationsExpectationsA more experienced Cincinnati team expects to fea-

ture more consistent play that will enable the Bearcats toreturn to contention for post-season play.

UC enters the 2006 season and its second of BIG EASTplay with a solid corps of seniors. Head Coach MeridyGlenn, in her 24th season at UC and the 10th winningestcoach in NCAA women's soccer history, feels that the teamhas the talent level to challenge in the BIG EAST and re-turn to the NCAA Tournament after a two-year absence.

The Right IngredientsThe Right IngredientsThe Right IngredientsThe Right IngredientsThe Right IngredientsWith nine seniors and an underclass with a year's

worth of BIG EAST experience, the Bearcats have the tal-ent and the depth to make a splash in the conference thisseason. UC returns nine starters, including five of the topsix scorers from 2005. The addition of a solid recruitingclass and a pair of transfers gives the Bearcats something

they haven't had in a while–superior depth. The team hasa hunger to return the Bearcats to the dominance thatthey savored during their time in Conference USA.

ForwardsForwardsForwardsForwardsForwardsThe forward position is filled with young, talented scor-

ers who will shape the Bearcat attack for the next severalyears.

The top 2005 scorer returns in sophomore All-Ohioselection Jenn Johannigman (6 goals), as does classmanteKristin May (1 goal, 2 assists). Senior Ana Farmer providesleadership and playmaking ability as a striker and looks tohave a major impact in her final season.

Sophomore Nicole Sanda and redshirt freshmanTeresa Smolilo will offer tremendous depth at such an ac-tive position.

Newcomer Erin MacDonald has an attacking mindsetand will push for time as well.

Senior captain Becky Imhoff, who has started 54 of 55career matches, holds down the central midfield spot . Sheled the Bearcats and ranked ninth in the BIG EAST with sixassists in 2005. Fellow senior Kate Norton returns afterstarting in all 18 matches a season ago.

Sophomores Chelsea Kindschuh and LindseyNoteboom are back after making 15 aand 16 starts, re-spectively. They will be pushed by seniors Anna Barrettand Jessica Legge.

Newcomers Melissa Bigg, who was named a Top 20International Recruit by Soccer Buzz Magazine, StephanieBrindle, Lisa Clark and Heather Neiser round out a deepcorps of midfielders. With the youth movement pushingthe veterans, the Bearcats have a solid foundation in theall-important midfield.

DefenseDefenseDefenseDefenseDefenseThree-fourths of the defense returns, including All-

Ohio selection Kim Sykes. Junior Gigi Ernst, who has startedall but one match in her first two seasons, returns as dosenior Ashley Roush and redhsirt junior captain RachaelEpps. The leadership and communication abilities of thethree returnees will be paramount in holding the defensetogether.

Newcomers Erica Maine and Tricia Gardner will battlefor playing time in a veteran group. Maine is fast and ath-letic and can play as a wide defender. Gardner's strengthallows her to play a physical style at central defender.

GoalkeepingGoalkeepingGoalkeepingGoalkeepingGoalkeepingWith the graduation of Sherry Slye, the Bearcats are

young in goal. Brittney Hansen was with the squad during2005, earning a redshirt. She will battle newcomers An-drea Bouldin, Andrea Kaminski and Sherry Lyle for the start-

ing job. Bouldin and Hansen competed during the springseason.

Bouldin, who played at Eastern Michigan in 2005, re-turns to her hometown as the lone Bearcat keeper withcollegiate game experience. Kaminski was the confer-ence player of the year as a senior and held a 0.69 careergoals against average as well as 44 career shutouts. Lylewas a three-time team MVP at Westerville North HighSchool and posted a miniscule 0.06 goals against averageas a sophomore.
