Student TestimonialIn a short story version, JA gets down to business in teaching us how to manage things in life in a fun and creative way.

JA has taught me a lot of things on how I should be prepared and what I should know for the future. For example, how we should follow and manage policies and procedures at work. Did you know that in India every time their boss walks in the room, employees have to greet him or her? Or that the cow is considered sacred so they can’t serve any type of beef in restaurants?

JA also taught me how our world trades goods with each other and what rules the world has to follow while trading. There is an organization called the World Trade Organization (WTO) that helps the different countries solve problems in a calm and peaceful way. My JA instructor had us pretend we were the WTO. We had to fi gure out ideas on how to solve problems and what rules should be applied.

In the future, I would like to be the president, a marine biologist, or an architect. Through JA, I’ve learned how to manage, follow rules, and solve problems. This is a great program to have.

Letter from the Chair and PresidentCongratulations! Your investment in Junior Achievement of South Dakota produces results. In 2006-07, we positively impacted 35,532 students. This is a 9% increase from last year and a 462% increase since 1997.

This continued success comes from the partnership of businesses supporting Junior Achievement with fi nancial support and classroom volunteers. Our statewide model is working well. Our growing challenge is the ability of local communities to broaden the fi nancial support base needed to retain classrooms and expand the number of classes offering Junior Achievement. Parents and educators agree that the Junior Achievement curriculum enriches the educational experience of students and provides a unique and valuable study of our economy and our free enterprise system. Please join us in fi nding ways to continue the support needed to sustain our program growth.

Volunteers are the heart and soul of Junior Achievement. Our 1,800 volunteers brought the JA programs to life and provided inspiration to our kindergarten through twelfth graders. To students, they offer enthusiasm, knowledge, and living proof of where an education can take you. Our volunteers are mentors, role models, cheerleaders, and teachers working to help today’s kids grow into tomorrow’s success stories. JA program volunteers donated over 22,000 hours to help prepare the leaders of tomorrow. Education and business partnerships remain a cornerstone of JA’s success. Weare grateful for our educators’ partnership as they generously allow us access totheir classrooms. We also appreciate our investors and our special event participants. Thousands of business and community leaders recognize the return from investments in our programs. Because of them, children will become informed citizens and better prepared workers and leaders. We thank the over 2,500 people who participated in events which raised more than $300,000.

Junior Achievement’s programs provide students with the much-needed link between education and business. Annual Bowl-a-Thons were held in Aberdeen, Brookings, Huron, Mitchell, the Sioux Empire, Watertown, and Yankton during the fall of 2006. Over 2,400 bowlers helped to raise over $183,000. In March 2007, HSBC—North America held its own HSBC/JA Bowl-a-Thon which raised over $12,300.
